Re**al prolapse
Introduction:
Re**al prolapse is seen in young calves and yearling cattle but rarely adult
TYPE
Complete:
Proplase of mucosal layer only with local oedem .
Incomplete:TOtal eversion of the caudal re**um with serosal re**um surfaces in contact.
Aetiology and sign:
Primary sign is marked tenesmus usually as result of severe localised.
Severe enteritis involving passage sloughed epithelial debris and blood as in severe acute salmonellosos or coccidosis.
Recent Incomplete proplase without mucosal injury :
* Replacement and purse string suture in subcutaneous peri-anal skin .
*Insert needle ventrally emerging dorosally to expose minimum length of non absorbable material to possible contamination.
*Suture should be tied in bow ventrally to permit gradually controlled slackening .
*Suture should permit adequate passage of faeces and but prevent proplase and in a one-month- old calf should permit entry of two digits.
COMPLETE PROPLASE:
Attempt Replacement if not severely traumatised .Bathing with dilute Epsom salts or tannic acid or sugar solution may reduce size of oedematous mass.
