Emily & I had a blast with everyone in Daytona. There were a lot of new faces! We got almost no pics this year but we won’t make that mistake next year so be ready! If you purchased a snake from us remember to reach out if you need anything at all.

Florida Animal Keepers United!

We had a big day today. Animal keepers of all types filled the room at the FWC meeting.

We are so proud of all of you! Our speakers were professional, articulate, and passionate, but did not let their emotions get the better of them. USARK FL's presence was felt in a huge way.

The Commissioners decided not to force through the damaging Whitelist "options" and they did not vote to go ahead with the draft rules implementing these rules. Chairman Barreto indicated that he would like to give the new Executive Director Colonel Young time to work through these issues.

We had encouraging conversations with Colonel Young after the meeting in which he indicated that he would like to see the agency go in a different direction than it has been going. He emphasized that he has a record of working with industry in the past. He told us that he would attend the next Nonnative Species TAG. This is something that his predecessors Sutton and Eason never did.

During the meeting, we also got a public commitment from Colonel Young that FWC would not be euthanizing captive animals, at least in the short term, at least until they can establish more effective protocols. We will continue to ask them to make that permanent. Their Amnesty program should be their first suggestion rather than a last resort.

We were even thanked by certain FWC staff members for opposing what they thought would be disastrous rules.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman Barreto admitted that FWC needed to do better and said that he understood the emotions expressed by the animal keepers in attendance.

We are cautiously optimistic that the tide may be turning with FWC. You can still count on us to be a watchdog and hold them to account.
