Managing Music at Events - As the event season gets going full speed, it's worth addressing a common challenge at FS events. Muzac.
Much to Jeff Scheetz dismay I use Spotify to manage music at events.
Even better is Google play because it allows for custom music to be added to the playlist. Having a playlist of competitor music obtained in advance helps make the event run more efficiently. Just get the song title and artist. You can put the music in order in the playlist.
You can use itunes, spotify or google play and each can sync across multiple devices in case of hardware issues.
Walk ups or people who don't believe in interwebs for things can just tell you title and artist over the phone, in a letter or even in person.
No messing with phones: cases, airplane mode, buttons. or scratched CD's etc.
The primary issue with this method is internet access right? EXCEPT - you can download the playlist over a wifi connection beforehand and then you don't need wifi at the field. So the only real concern is people who don't supply music until the last second.
And competitors - know what format is being requested and provide it as early and cleanly as possible. If you are using your phone, have the music ready, case removed, phone on airplane mode and unlocked, etc. CD ready with a backup copy or files emailed in advance of the event.
I also have timers on a playlist or on my computer. I got some from the UpDog and KCDDclub websites and there are some saved on this discussion page also.
