Mom look I found strawberries! That’s what I heard this weekend while tending to the garden. This began our deep dive Into this magical strawberry. This is Fragaria virginiana, known as Virginia strawberry, wild strawberry, common strawberry, or mountain strawberry. Did you know this natural beauty is a natural cure for many things. You can take the leaves and make wild strawberry leaf tea. This tea can be given to all ages, and has many benefits. It can be given to treat diahrea and urinary tract problems. You can also rub the tea on the gums of teething babies to help ease the pain, as well as giving a spoonful to help aid colic and digestive problems. When added to a spoonful of honey it can treat mild scalp irritations like cradle cap. Dried wild strawberry leaf can be used to regulate menstruation, calm morning sickness, promote abundant breast milk production as well as act as a mild nerve tonic. Using the tea as a mouthwash can help with alleviating toothache and can heal ulcers of the gums. A poultice made from fresh wild strawberry leaves can be used to treat open wounds, eczema, and psoriasis to help aide accelerate healing. Also, the tra from the iron-rich leaves helps treat anemia. With the astringent quality of the leaves of this versatile plant make it the perfect ingredient in a facial steam, helping to reduce excess sebum which causes oily skin. The leaves can also be used to make a facial toner. Needless to say this magical plant has many uses and is free to us from Mother Nature. It amazes me that the answer to so many problems can be found in our back yard. Another reason we chose to turn back to Mother Nature and all she has to offer us.
