More and more people are starting to realize that our dogs health start with what they eat. Just like humans, dogs should not eat ultra processed food for every meal of their life.
Our pets health is in a critical state.
- Over half our dogs are obese. Which in the past 10 years have been a 158% increase.
- Canine diabetes has increased more than 80% since 2006
- 90% of dogs have periodontal disease by the age of two
- 1 in 3 dogs develop cancer
- Allergies are one of the most common reason for vet visits (well over 1.5million visits a year)
- In the past 30 years there’s been a 1,500% increase in gastric dilation
And unfortunately, that is just a few examples of the crisis our dogs are experiencing.
One way to start building up your dogs immune system and supporting their body is by feeding fresh food. If you do not have the time to make your own, or the money to buy pre made that doesn’t mean you should stick only with what you love been doing.
Look through your fridge and start adding fresh food toppers to your dog’s meals, it will make a difference.
If you’re interested in switching to a fresh food diet but don’t know where to start, I’m a certified canine nutritionist and I can help you! Send me a message🍖

When the dog start fixating on the cars, the owner tries to regain engagement and redirect his attention by turning around in both videos.
The difference is, in the first video the owner stopped and waited for a response from the dog (which thankfully in this video wasn’t too bad, but he has terrible anxiety and can completely shut down when they pass by) vs the second video where she kept moving forward and gave direction. By continuing to move forward it helped the dog redirect and move on much faster, instead staying fixated on the car.

If you are going to feed homemade food please make sure your understand the nutrients you need to be adding and at what portions.
Homemade food doesn’t have to be fancy or exact, but you do need to follow some guidelines.
The biggest reason some vets have a problem with homemade diets is because people aren’t doing them correctly leading to major deficiencies. Ground beef, rice, and veggies are not a complete diet!
I am a certified canine nutritionist and can help you understand how to create a proper homemade diet for your dog and will create interchangeable tailored recipes for your dog. Visit my website or message me for more info!💕

A lot of times people struggle with effectively teaching the release command because the dog either won’t leave their side or won’t get out of position when they say ‘break’ or ‘okay’. This is very common with “Velcro dogs” or dogs who love to work.
One way to make the release very clear is to mark it verbally then immediately after throw the reward away from them.

Great example of just because your dog knows something doesn’t mean they know it in every situation.
Koda is my only dog, he knows to listen to my commands when I say them. So although he knows his place command, he isn’t used to working with another dog around and having to listen to his name before I say a command. I can not expect him to know this, when it’s not something we work on, so it’s something I have to teach him.
I see people get so frustrated with their dog in situations like this. It’s important to stop and ask yourself: have you trained your dog on what your asking in the environment they are in? If the answer is no, you know where to start.
Another easy example is just because your dog knows how to sit when inside your house, doesn’t mean they know how to sit outside around heavy distraction, you have to train for environment you are in.

Unless you’re in a fenced in area, please do not let your dog off leash until you have taught them to master a recall.

Truth: our tricks are usually pretty messy😂
I honestly don’t care for them to be perfect. I truly only do things like this to work on our bond and relationship. His eagerness to work and to please, the focus it creates, and building trust is what really matters.
Aka if you want competition style tricks, I’m not your trainer, however if your an average pet owner wanting to build a stronger bond with their dog, I can help with that 😁

Absolutely.
Despite what you may have been told, you do not need a yard to have a dog.
In my experience, not having a yard has bettered my dogs life. I use to have a fenced in acre Koda could go run around and play whenever he wanted, however that did not fulfill him in the way he needed. Now, living full time in our rv and not having a yard, I have to take him places for exercise. He experiences, sees, and smells new things everyday and enjoy life much better than he used to.
Running around the same yard everyday is not enough exercise for most dogs.
So as long as you are properly exercising and fulfilling your dog, no a yard is not necessary.

The first clip is how Koda acted when we tried to fish for the first time in over a year. He got overstimulated and started to whine and pant.
Behaviorally he is not doing anything “bad” or wrong, nor is it dangerous to him or anyone around, he is just expressing stressful emotions. I do not correct a dog in these situations, instead I try to help them work through it.
Since Koda doesn’t take treats in these situations I go to simply trying to relax him with my calm demeanor, massage, and praise at the correct time.

Don’t make the same mistake I and many others once made. Socialize your dog properly!
Socialization by definition means: the process of learning to behave in a way that is acceptable to society.
So by socialization we mean exposure! (We trainers and animal professionals really need to switch to this term). Expose your dog to different sounds, people, smells, textures, kids, dogs, ect. This doesn’t mean let them say hi to all these things, but to be able to see or be close to them and remain in a neutral head space.
Good places for this can be, dog friendly stores, parks, outside restaurants, public events, ect…
Set your dog up for success and choose places based on where they are at. For example, don’t take your fearful reactive dog to a busy public event full of people, kids, loud sounds, dogs, and tons of smells, instead, take them a park and expose them to the smells, sounds, and occasional people walking by. Work on creating the 2 most important things- neutrality and engagement! This could take a day, a week or a few, then, move on to somewhere with a big more action and distraction.

Leash manners are basic and foundational skill, but just because it’s a basic skill doesn’t mean it’s easy. So many people struggle with leash pulling.

Koda learned 2 French commands in under 10 mins the other day! He knows commands in English, German, and now French! We don’t plan on stopping at these two commands but it’s a great start 😁
Want to learn how I did it? Watch out for my next post!
Also notice how I did not repeat my commands when he just needed a quick second to think about what I was asking. Next time your in this situation give your dog a second and let them figure it out vs repeating yourself.

I get it’s 110 nearly everyday here in Arizona, but it’s not an excuse. If you truly want to help your dog overcome issues, you can find another way to get the work in.
Other options:
-train in your house
-train your garage
-train early morning
-train in the evening

Just because I’m a dog trainer doesn’t mean my dog doesn’t do “naughty” things. He is actually very “naughty”, but I could careless if my dogs begs, barks at the door, rough plays in the house, jumps on the couch, ect. the only thing I require is once I say it’s enough, that he respects me and listens to that.
I am not the type of trainer who is going to teach you and your dog how to do fancy tricks, agility, have championship obedience, ect. I just want to help create realistic strong and healthy bonds between owners and their dogs- whatever that may mean for them.
Pet owners- message me if you need help with the realistic everyday situations with your dog. I offer in-person and virtual training (coaching) lessons 🐶

Safe to say Koda loves his real dog box chews!
Also very excited the lamb ears still had fur on them so he gets some extra manganese!

This dog was scared of the hardwood floor for whatever reason. After building some engagement and motivation our next goal was to overcome this fear! It started by just stepping onto the floor and eventually become him walking across the floor to reach his treat. Confidence building can be as simple of overcoming little things like this!
What is your dog scared of that they shouldn’t be?
Start there.

When making homemade diets for your dog, it is important your dog is getting enough zinc. A zinc deficiency can cause problems, including:
-Excessive itching or scratching
-Dull coat
-Dry thick elbow pads
-Lethargy
-Thickened footpads
-Redness and weeping between the toes
-crusted skin lesions
-Frequent or recurring infections
-Slow wound healing
-Chronic digestive issues
-Seizures
Oysters are a great addition to diets whether fresh or kibble because they can high amount of zinc! It can be difficult to find canned oysters without added salt and I always get asked what to do.
If you can find oysters without added salt great! If you can’t, don’t not feed them, just rinse them out and let them soak in water.
They also contain selenium, copper, magnesium phosphorus, and iron. They are a great low fat addition that can aid immune system, support good skin and coat health, and improve thyroid health.
Because balance comes over time, every 3 weeks I give my dog 2 oysters a day until the can is gone. 😁
