GG Family, Did you know many of our gentle ones lived just like this before covid and before joining GG? This was their sad reality.

To say your support has changed and better the lives of both elephants and their mahouts is an understatement. When Covid hit, thanks to you, we were able to keep many elephants from being sold into the logging industry. Now, with tourist coming back we keep them from having to go back to a life of slavery.

We are relieved to share with you that after trying for more than a year finally there is some progress in our effort to secure retirement for abused elephant Muthu Raja.

We got confirmation that after the delegation of Thai veterinarians specialised in elephants checked Muthu Raja they have recommend for his immediate retirement.
With the recommendation of the team of vets the Royal Thai Embassy of Colombo has requested for the same from the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka.

Dear Mr President Ranil Wickremesinghe

Muthu Raja is a beautiful 30-year-old bull 🐘 born in Thailand and gifted by HRM the Queen mother of Thailand, Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara in 2001 to Sri Lanka. He was named Sak Surin (meaning in Thai/Samskrit "the honour of Surin Province") when he was born.

He was just 10 years old, when he was chosen in honour of Queen Sirikit, because of how beautiful he looked even as a calf, to be gifted to the people of Sri Lanka.

Muthu Raja, however ended up serving a local Buddhist temple named Aluthgama Kande Viharaya, chained 24x7, laboured, neglected and abused.

His left front leg is now permanently injured due to years of negligence and he has extremely thin foot pads and foot abscesses which can lead to a painful death. He has abscesses and bullhook wounds all over his body. At present his health issues have become chronic.

Muthu Raja badly needs to be retired and given intensive veterinary treatments and care.

Mr President you are the only person on earth that can make this happen. 🐘❤

In order to save Muthu Raja's life he needs to be transferred to Ridiyagama Safari Park, in Sri Lanka for urgent treatment.
These injuries are so severe and complicated that Sri Lanka now doesn’t have the veterinary capacity to help heal Muthu Raja.

Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, in Lampang.is also a project initiated by HRM Queen Sirkit and is equipped with one of the best and most advanced elephant hospitals in the world it is our wish to see later when he is fit enough to fly, he be sent to receive specialised intensive veterinary care at TECC. There, at home in Thailand he will have the chance to recuperate with the world’s most specialised vets in captive 🐘

This will strengthen love & harmony between Thailand and Sri Lanka and show what a compassionate nation we are 🇱🇰

ZOO KREFELD

Entgegen der Ankündigung des Krefelder Zoos, in das seit Anfang Sept. 2022 nutzbare „Außengehege“ für BALLY und LIMBO eine Videoübertragungsmöglichkeit zu installieren, so dass Besucher*innen die beiden Schimpansen über einen Monitor im Besucherbereich live sehen können, gibt es solche Möglichkeit bis heute nicht.

Seitdem der Zoo im Februar 2022 den Monitor im Besucherbereich, über den Einblick in den Innenbunker genommen werden konnte, in dem die beiden Schimpansen seit der Brandnacht zur Jahreswende 2019/20 verwahrt werden, abmontiert hatte, waren BALLY und LIMBO öffentlich nicht mehr zu sehen.

Schon damals verlautbarte der Zoo, es werde eine neue Videoübertragung aus dem seinerzeit noch in Planung stehenden „Außengehege“ geben.

Das für Besucher*innen nicht einsehbare „Außengehege“ ist fertig, eine Videoübertragung in den Besucherbereich gibt es gleichwohl nicht.

Weshalb nicht?

Tatsächlich waren die beiden Schimpansen nur am Tag der „Einweihung“ am 6.9.2022 in einem vom Zoo online gestellten 2:46-min-Videoclip zu sehen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WApWNAPZkc

Seither - abgesehen von einem 21sec-Clip vom 20.9.2022, in dem nur BALLY kurz zu sehen ist https://fb.watch/fYdEv_3i4a/ - gab es nichts mehr. (Interessant an dem 21-sec-Clip ist der irrwitzige Verkehrslärm, der von einer direkt hinter dem „Außengehege“ verlaufenden Hauptverkehrsstraße her dieses durchdringt.)

Es läßt sich für Besucher*innen nicht feststellen, an welchen Tagen und über welche Zeiträume die Schimpansen das „Außengehege“ nutzen können – oder ob überhaupt. Es steht zu vermuten, dass sie während der anstehenden kalten Jahreszeit (
