This baby fruit bat became entangled in backyard netting after she attempted to access food. There has been an influx of bats just like her, escaping from their fire ravaged habitat to do so.

Still alive but trapped, she was eventually preyed on by another animal. Sadly, by the time help arrived, her injuries were too great and she had to be euthanized.

Please do your bit to ensure this doesn’t happen to more bats and remove your fruit netting today. As of 2021, dangerous nets will be prohibited following revision of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

In the last two years the bats have declined by 98.7%.

Two years ago, Secretary Cimatu promised us a critical habitat.
What is holding the DENR and our local government back in establishing it? In 2017, our highest count was 2425 bats and yesterday’s count across Boracay reached only to a total of 19 bat individuals, with 30 bats as the highest number for 2020.

We have consistently been providing the DENR and government agencies with data and facts since 2004, while requesting for the establishment of a critical habitat. The BIATF has been strong in implementing setbacks, drainage and road widening due to certain environmental concerns. What is taking so long to protect our marine biodiversity and our worldwide endangered species?

Of course, there are many conspiracies as to financial personal incentives playing a part in the decision.

To the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), are we going to wait until we have no more bats!?

My first item on the agenda is
Complete lack of regard or consideration for our wildlife - especially the parts included in this report - it does not inform and in fact perpetuating animal abuse - I’m also tackling Charters Towers and Innisfail- every year they complain like children and do nothing - could have had a whole forest grown by now - so if you are like me and am tired of the way things are - please help me - share Seriously cute Seriously Batty and how important they are to our wildlife and country - and it’s time that is the priority- NOT whinging children who believe they are entitled to anything they decide......
