We got an owl in yesterday. Wing is completely snapped 180 degrees in the wrong direction. The owl had some internal bleeding (blood coming from mouth) and one eye stays closed. We bandaged his wing to his body, however through the night he managed to remove the bandage somehow. If there is a vet that would like to assist please let me know. In the meantime we are doing what we can to help him. He is not strong enough to eat, so we are feeding him with our Terratac. It takes him a few minutes to swallow the food. He is already a bit stronger than yesterday.

Molly has adapted well and last night she started exploring in the evening. Gave us a fright as we could not find her for about an hour. Bat Eared Foxes are predominantly nocturnal animals, however Molly was raised in a domestic setting so her day and night is switched. Exploring at night is a good thing however we would not want her to get in harms way.

Meet Molly, a 3yo Bat Eared Fox. She has joined our family and will stay with us forever. She will not be able to be released for her own safety. What an honour to have her as part of the family.

This c**t was handed over to us today. His owner passed away earlier this year and things went south for him from there. We look forward to sharing his journey with you. Day 1 of getting him on condition. Thank you Terratac, your Multitool is coming in handy even when feeding our rescue animals at The Self Sufficient Homestead and Abi's ARC

Scarf the orphan mongoose❤️

Earlier this evening Abi found this little one in the pool basically a few breaths from death. We didn't think it would make it but tried anyway. Abi made a warm water bottle, wrapped it in a towel and put the little stiff lifeless dove next to it in it's own towel. This is about 2 hours later and he is all perky. We decided to name it Nemo seeing that it thought it could swim!

Freedom is looking so much better. No more ribs showing and she is relaxed. Still has human trust issues thus the halter still on, but she allows Abi to brush her on about 60% of her body. No one else is allowed to though. Humans have really let her down so much in the past. Time will heal❤️

We are humbled by the kindness of a fellow farmer who wishes to stay anonymous. We were searching for bales to buy (we were not asking for donations) as Freedom has to stay in a small camp next to our house for quite sometime. She has an abscess in her front right hoof that we are unable to treat at the moment as she does not allow much handling yet. Abi is working to desensitise her. She also cannot join our herd before some blood tests are done and parasites sorted. Her front hooves are an absolute mess and needs lots of work. Searching for bales with no luck, this farmer called us back and said he would like to donate these bales. We are so thankful ❤️

Thank you Delani for helping all the way!

Seeing that she was petrified of the trailer and most humans we had to walk her to where we needed her. Today we did a 25km walk and she is sleeping over at a local farm shop terrain. Tomorrow morning she walks her final 11km's to freedom. Thank you ARC angel Ruth ( Brooks) for helping us try load her.

BEWARE OF IMPOSTERS!!
Please take note that it seems that someone is trying to use our name to deceive members of the public to swindle them out of money. We VERY SELDOMLY ask for assistance but if we do I will ask via telephone conversation only AND WE WILL NEVER ASK FOR MONEY, rather medical supplies or food if we can't supply it ourselves or if we are overwhelmed with animals we will ask for a volunteer to help. Please do not believe any imposters posing to be us. Just for the record, in the 2 years we have been rescuing and rehabilitating we have only asked for assistance TWICE!

Penne pig joined us a week ago. She thinks she is human as she was raised on a bottle. She does not like mud and if her toes touches it she lift it up high and shakes her leg🤣

28/12/2021

16/12/2021
Noah has really settled himself in at his new home😂
08/12/2021
Our not so little and really naughty😉 Noah was adopted by an approved home. He will be a friend to her other donkey. Katreintjie is spending some time with our neighbors donkeys to adjust and until we can find another jenny (female donkey). We didn't want to have to risk Katreintjie getting pregnant from her own son. We have already received feedback, Noah is enjoying his new home and family❤️
06/12/2021
Found this female Blue headed lizzard that fell in a water trough and could not get out. Abi put her back where she thinks she might have come from.

Woodland Kingfisher found trapped inside a building being released
27/11/2021
Someone brought this Swallow to Abi's Arc today. He seems to be an adult already, but his reactions are abnormal. We will nurse it and hopefully it will recover from whatever is wrong and it can be released.

09/11/2021
Welcome to Abi's ARC little one. We received a call out to collect this young Pearl Spotted Owlet. He was picked up after a windy storm. We will be nurturing him and releasing him when he is ready❤️
07/11/2021
Great news! We have found a possible surrogate mom for Mumbo at Bambelela Wildlife in Bela Bela! The surrogate lost her own baby very recently and we are hoping she will take Mumbo as her own❤️. He will be leaving us on Tuesday.
07/11/2021
Mumbo is doing better. He has gained some strength from the milk he has been drinking. It's raining outside. We are so thankful that Abi and Melanie Brooks found him yesterday as surely he would not have made it till now all alone.
06/11/2021
He is so tired, wonder how long he was without his mom😪
06/11/2021
Abi went horseriding and found a really dehydrated, thin crying monkey. His tail was wet from sucking on it to try and get something to drink. Welcome to Abi's ARC little one.
