▪️Control ▪️ Practicing our lead walking while the other calmly practices her down stays. Great for if you have multiple dogs and limited time, control will allow you to utilise the time you have by getting 2 training sessions into 1! *do not try this yourself without the advice of a trainer*

▪️NEUTRALITY▪️
Neutrality and focus is something that is really important to allow our dogs to coexist around us peacefully. Here we are working on Dotty being calm in a med-distraction environment. She is smashing it at such a young age - resisting the temptation of exploring the smells of the nearby food van and multiple people walking past. With her going through a fear phase she is sensitive to sudden sights and sounds so I’m really proud of her for this ☺️ we have a lot of work to do but this is only the beginning! 💥

ENRICHMENT IDEAS
Because it’s unrealistic to think we all have every hour in the day to exert our dogs?
Each idea will fit each dog differently- remember that! Fit it to your dogs motivations 🐕 🐕‍🦺🦮🐩🐾

A little clip from Sunday’s session with a wild mini schnauzer 😂 excitableness can quickly turn into destructive behaviour! In this first lesson we showed the owner the small changes we can make to take her from extreme pulling and frustration behaviour to a calm and focused walking behaviour 🦴🐾🐕‍🦺

With the still ongoing demand for puppies and more brits adding another dog to the family here is something we should keep in mind when viewing pups from a breeder:

- PUREBRED doesn’t mean WELL BRED. Look at the conformation for the breed on AKC website. How well proportioned is the pup? Is the breeder promoting colours that aren’t accepted in the breed standard? All of this is a sign that the breeder doesn’t have the right things in mind when breeding! Remember when breeding we are bettering and preserving breeds. Conformation is just one of the few basics of a good breeder.

- KNOWLEDGE is something that all breeders should know about the breed(s) they are selling. A breeder that can’t tell you much about the breed, their requirements and future expectations is not a breeder you want to buy from!!

- QUICK to sell you a puppy without asking any questions at all. A lot of breeders will let just anybody take a puppy. If the breeder doesn’t question you and your intentions with his puppy that means he doesn’t care what happens to that puppy once it is in your hands !! Stay away from these types of breeders.

- REPUTATION is something that all good breeders have, whether they be a newcomer with a good reputation within the dog world and the breed world they specialise in or an existing breeder who can be vouched for should you ask anyone.

- ONGOING care for their puppies is something that all breeders should have. If the breeder cannot show or tell you anything about previous litters this is another sign that he does not care about any of the puppies once they are gone! Good breeders should keep in contact and check up on their puppies at least every 6 months as this shows that they care for what they have produced!!

It might be quicker and easier to obtain a puppy from a bad or irresponsible breeder but just remember the more we purchase from these the more they are supported, and breeders that display these qualities contribute to the amount of dogs in shelters each year. Good breeders will place their puppies in well matched homes and do the most they can to prevent their hard work from turning into another shelter number.

Good Morning, from little Dotty 🐾 🧡

‼️ DOES YOUR DOG LISTEN TO YOU ? ‼️
The key to training is engagement. Do you have engagement? Does your dog or puppy want to be with you, be training with you?
Keeping it fun and exciting is key.
Watch me here run through some recently taught drills with a 13 week old puppy with no reward visible just my TONE of VOICE and BODY LANGUAGE 😮 look how engaged and eager she is to perform! Just because I am asking. Hidden reward is thrown at the end to teach the puppy to work without rewards visible. She is learning to follow my hand signals 😍
Message the page now to book in! We cover all things from obedience to behavioural problems.📥 ✅

If a 10 weeks old puppy can do it, so can you!
Teaching little Dotty engagement on a walk along with proper leash walking. This was her first lesson.
If you have any problems walking your dog or with leash pulling (or need any other help at all) Message the page ☺️🐶

Going through the basics with Dotty, and Lexy doing those same commands. The performance from Lexy is what you can expect from Dotty in around a years time. with puppies this young at only 10 weeks I Focus on engagement first rather than perfect performance. As you can see Dotty is giving great eye contact and is enjoying her training sessions which at this stage is more important than every command being perfect 🐶

Sully and Lexy having a structured walk together, she is one of the few dogs he’s learning to trust and not be aggressive around. calm energy is important for this and Lexy is a star at that ⭐️ 🐶 🐕

Shelby‘s last lesson with me 😞 I have loved to see this dogs progress. Her owner now has more control over Shelby around other dogs and her recall is becoming great. Her owner will now continue with everything we have taught Shelby and what she has learnt herself so she can continue to walk shelby off leash calmly. 😊 🐾 🐶

Starting puppy basics with the cutest little nugget, learning recall at just six weeks old 🐶

Shelby the Bernese mountain dog was notorious for bounding over to any dog she saw and ignoring recall. ( as you can see in the first video) We are almost towards the end of her training, and here is her progress video over the last month. She has made such an improvement with her engagement with owner and she is now making better decisions which are allowing her owner to stay in control of her dog in public. In a couple weeks Shelby will be Able to be off leash in the park a Without her owner worrying which is what she has always wanted! I have loved to see this dog progress ☺️ 🐾

IS YOUR PET AN IDEAL WEIGHT ? 🐷
Most of us owners are actually unaware of the correct weight that a dog should be. This diagram is a simple and easy way to tell whether your dog is underweight, Overweight or an ideal weight.
A whopping 35% of dogs in the UK are overweight. Just like in humans obesity can cause an array of health problems and it’s so important to make sure that your dogs are fed a clean and proper diet and are Frequently exercised to maintain a healthy weight.
Being overweight just like underweight can shorten lifespan, reduce quality of life, cause illnesses such as diabetes (yes even dogs can get diabetes) and cause injury.
Most people are misinformed about correct pet nutrition. Many High Street kibble brands contain too much sugar and not enough protein, essential vitamins and nutrients.

This year LILS K9 Training will start specialising in Dog Nutrition!
Look out for an announcement, and when we release this service you won’t need to worry about making sure your pets are fed right and living their best life. We will be offering allsorts of nutritional advice including diet plans and recommended supply chains etc. More information will be released in the coming months. 😁 🦴🐕

I’m so proud of this ones progress already!
Excitableness, behaviour and no recall around other dogs is a common problem in dog training. Shelby had this same problem when she first came to me.
We utilised the use of a long line to provide consequence and captured engagement wherever possible to show Shelby what we wanted from her. She’s really starting to learn now that all the fun is where her owner is, and she is now choosing to make that decision to ignore other dogs which before was impossible for her.

RECALL #
One of the most important commands you will teach your dog. Ever. It’s life saving. And quite surprisingly it’s where most people are lacking. Good recall is achieved through practice and reward including consequences for non compliance. And most owners miss great chances to practice recall. You don’t have to be on a walk, in a busy field, where the dog is far away from you. Recall is recall, whether from 1m or 100m. Even if you know your dog will come back in the garden, call him anyway. When he’s going for a p*e, playing with your other dog etc. Because all this is doing is getting the dog into the rhythm of listening when you call him, and this really helps when you do practice it outside and around distraction.
Website coming soon! Keep your eyes p*eled 👁 🐩

Structured walking before and after 😃 these have been practicing walking with engagement for a few weeks now and this session was a little touch up as the pulling behaviour had reverted, as you can see in the video. We started by walking round in circles tediously capturing any slither of engagement with some high value rewards and then once the behaviour was becoming more frequent we practiced on a short walk which the owners will now put into practice to help with leash walking and focus 👍🏼

17/01/2021

Recall work with Shelby. First videos was the first session, videos after today.
This is achieved through working her at low distractions and using both positive reinforcement and positive punishment to encourage her to come when called.
Also notice how much more attentive she is with her owner now! Much more progress to come in the next month. Keep an eye out for her journey 🐕

Walking little Rex yesterday and managed to snap some moments. Before I leave for any walk I like to work on thresholds, and then I built on the attention we had being working on in his training sessions. This was one of his first few walks! So cute! 🥺🐶🐾

BALANCED DOG TRAINING
Balanced training consists of all 4 quadrants of training - positive and negative reinforcement and positive and negative punishment. This is in mathematical terms so positive means to add something and negative means to take something away.
Balanced training opens up windows for trainers that 'positive only' training can't. In many cases where positive only trainers have failed and labeled the dogs as 'too dangerous to be alive' balanced trainers have succeeded in rehabilitating those 'lost cause' cases.
There are many misconceptions on balanced training and the tools and methods used, and a lot of the general public are uneducated on the topic.
Read this information sheet for a quick explanation on how balanced training works. Once understood, it is obvious why it works so well!
In the next month i am going to be posting atleast 1 informative post a week, so keep your eyes p*eled!
Thanks for reading
