Maine C**n is an America's native breed of a huge domestic cat, bred by natural selection without human intervention.

Most new owners of a Maine C**n kitten will get them around the 12 week period after birth.
The Maine C**n develops and matures over a longer timeframe than most other breeds.

They will finish growing after 3 to 5 years – not a typo.

During this period it has a lot of growing up to do, learn social norms, and experience to gain.

They will gain much through living their life, but they will need your help to make the most of it.

Maine C**n kittens are typically sold to their new owners somewhere between 12 and 16 weeks of age.

It is very unlikely you will receive one earlier than 12 weeks, and if you are offered one, you probably shouldn’t pick that seller.

A lot of growing up is done in that 12 weeks, and the kitten needs its mother.

However, in order to understand the kitten journey, here’s what your kitten has gone through so far.

The Maine C**n kitten gear can include food, cat litter box, cat toys and bedding should you decide to get them one of those.

If you have another Maine C**n or other mature cats in the house they’ll need time to get acquainted with each other too!

Along with getting all the required gear and bracing yourself, the first thing you need to do is kitten proof your new home.

If you want to ensure the safety of your Maine C**n, you’ll need to eliminate any dangerous items and prepare a safe environment where they can play.

Electrical wires and outlets can be difficult to manage on their own, but ground-based ones are especially troublesome.

To avoid accidents, keep electrical cords out of reach of small children and cats.

They are very chewy for a kitten.

All knives should be removed, and choking hazards like potpourri should be removed from easy access.

Think like an exploring kitten and where it might get trapped.

Even if you do a thorough job, most likely it will find somewhere.

I’d remove all breakables from shelves and mantelpieces as well.

That’s just too ‘Tom and Jerry’ tempting.

Clear the area of any traps you may have set for rodents or pests.
