Peroneus tertius rupture, this leg position is typical for this lesion in the horse. The peroneus tertius muscle is essential for the function of the reciprocal apparatus in the horse, when this is affected, flexion of the stifle will not flex the hock as it would normally. As bad as this looks, usually stall rest, nsaids and sometimes kinesiology tape are used for the treatment, depending on the location of the lesion once fibrous tissue forms the horse can return to work.
