What you need
* your dog's favorite treat
* chicken and hotdogs work best, cut them into pea size chunks
What you need to do
* keep your body still
* don't give cue 'sit' during this training session
* follow training plan below
TRAINING PLAN - Teach a dog to sit with food lure
Step One
Lure dog into sit:
1. Put treat to dog's nose
2. Raise hand with treat in it up over his head, keep treat close to nose so it acts like a magnet
3. Use one motion to go up so dog's head goes up and his butt hits ground
4. Feed dog treat
Step Two
Coax dog out of sit and repeat step one (repeat step one 5 times)
Step Three
Move on to Part 2 - teach a dog to sit
Problems
What if dog gets out of sit or moves away as you are luring into sit?
1. Cancel giving treat if butt comes off ground or dog gets up, say "too bad" and start step one again
What if I can't get dog's butt on the ground?
1. Try practicing with a wall behind dog so he can't back up
2. Make sure treat is close to nose like a magnet
3. Watch video and see plan for dogs hard to get into sit
TIPS
1. Keep your body still
2. Don't say anything to dog unless it's "yes" or "good boy/girl"
3. Cancel giving treat if dog's butt comes off the ground
