👋🏼 long time no post! We’ve been busy enjoying (surviving 🥵) summer! But thought I’d take a moment to share a photo of
Pup of Honor, sweet Barkley, getting ready to es**rt his dad down the aisle. He did such a great job and nearly stole the show! (They have the photos to prove it ♥️)

And then he was ready to go home to relax, cool off and eat dinner while mom and dad danced the night away.

We were thrilled to help make it all happen!

This sweet girl had a rough life before her amazing mom came along and rescued her. She’s leery of new people, and even though we connected at our first meeting, she’s kept her guard up. Every time I visit, she lowers it a bit more. Today was the day she let me know she trusts me and really let me in 🥰 What an amazing feeling that is.

It’s been quite rainy here in Asheville over the past few days. We’ve been playing a game of windows of opportunity. Today we weren’t quite as successful as we have been. The nothing turned to a drizzle and then a moderate pace which then upped the level a little bit because why not? 🤷🏼‍♀️🫠
Luckily, sweet Aspen girl is a trooper and we were prepared with our rain jackets. We had a nice walk but were both over it by the end.

Maui owns a very deep place in my heart. The devastation that has ripped across the island is nearly incomprehensible, and help is desperately needed on many levels.

Of course, here at MDR, we love our animals, and since you’re here, we assume you do too. Before this catastrophe, was already over capacity. They’re doing their best to take care of all the displaced animals, but they need help. Donating to them is a great way to contribute. I’m reposting from them here, but if you go to MHS page, you’ll find more information and links to help you give at whatever capacity you can.

Another great resource is
Griff’s knowledge of and respect for the Hawaiian islands is beautiful and true. His community roots are deep, making him a fabulous resource for what’s going on and ways you can help. He’s already posted a couple of videos and will continue to add as things progress. If you give him a follow, you’ll not only stay tuned to the current events, but you’ll also find some of the best pictures and videos of all things ocean you’ve ever seen.

Even though the sun isn’t exactly shining, we’re in a heat advisory today here in Asheville. It’s gonna be hot for us people and even hotter for our furry buddies. Keep in mind your dog is going to run about 10 degrees hotter than you. So if it’s 80 out, think 90 when it comes to your pup. Be their rescue!
When outside, make sure they have access to adequate shade and water. Of course, there are those sun dogs out there who love to bask in it. Make sure they have a nice cool place to retreat when they’ve had enough.
And don’t forget their sweet little paws! If you can’t hold your hand to the ground for 10 seconds without it being too hot, their paws aren’t going to like it either. A walk probably isn’t the best idea.
Try to get out early or later when the sun’s gone down. Or opt for enrichment activities like scattering your dogs food for them to find, give them a frozen lick mat, or a bone they can gnaw on. These are just a few of really simple ways to engage your dogs brain and wear them out without exposing them to the elements. If you need more ideas, ask! We’re here for it.
