"Hoppy Easter" to all our friends and supporters!
Friendly reminder that Bunnies are not good Easter gifts for children. They require lots of space and exercise as well as a lot of attention and of course, greens! They are very smart and curious creatures but can also get a bit mischievous.

Poe says happy Monday everyone! He is one of our males that we are hoping to get some babies from with some of our ladies! Super curious and friendly and always up for treats! Stay tuned to see if he becomes a daddy! 😀🐹

Pancake sure loves her bugs now! Savannah Monitors have strict husbandry that needs to be followed to keep them healthy and happy. Their diet should consist of mostly bugs but they can have the odd treat of eggs or raw chicken or mice. Hard to believe this little one will grow to be a scaley small dog. We can't wait to take her for strolls in the summer sun!

We have been away for a while...A terrible accident happened to one of our Savs and we were unable to save him. After a month of trying to get Flap-Jack back on the mend, the infection just grew too much. He was put to rest last night. Pancake has has an upgrade to her enclosure to better care for and ensure that this accident doesn't happen again. It's hard not to feel guilty when a genuine accident does occur, but we know we did everything we could to help Flappy and make him comfortable. We love you buddy.

We are looking forward to (hopefully) welcoming some babies into the world in the next few months (please be patient, piggies are pregnant for about 65 days on average). We will post as soon as we have some lil babies available to go! Stay tuned!

Snakes can get birth defects too! Sunshine has a kink in his spine that didn't grow with him. He eats smaller meals more frequently and is handled with great care! He loves to burrow in the coco fibre and when he's skiddish, he will shake his tail like a rat Snake!

The corn snakes belly resembles that of maize, which is likely where they got their name from!

Flap-Jack sure loves his worms! And crickets....and, any bug really...😅

Did you know?
Savannah Monitors grow between 2-4 feet long! So they will not fit in your typical aquarium/terrarium! (Ours are just babies at the moment!) Their diet consists of mainly insects but they can be fed pinkies, raw chicken, eggs etc, every once in a while for more protein. They are prone to obesity and this can cause health problems and liver problems so insects are best! They're very smart and can be quite affectionate!
Keep a look out for ours come summer when we take them for a little stroll in the sun!

I love these little derpy beings! So enthusiastic to eat!
Did you know??
The white powder in the dish is calcium powder! If Geckos don't get enough calcium and vitamins, they get metabolic bone disorder which can be detrimental to their activities. It's good practice to dust all their bugs with calcium powder when feeding as well as leaving them a dish with some so they can lick it up as they feel they need it!
**(BE CAREFUL. Some calcium powders have D3 added, if you put this in there dish they can eat too much and OVERDOSE.)**

Tiny Smaug just waiting for the next cricket to come by! Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!

Did you know?
Leopard geckos eat their shed! It contains nutrients they need so when they outgrow their skin, it sheds off and they eat it as it comes off! If your lucky, you can catch the little guys/gals in their "onesie" pajamas before they eat it! Super adorable to see!

When Kyle came to us, he was not in the best of conditions. He had scale rot along his right side near his head, had a slight wheeze, and was SUPER bitey. He was being housed with a python and another rainbow boa in the same small bin. We told the previous owner about the scale rot and he should get his python checked, turned out the python had a fungal infection. 🤦🏼‍♀️😔 After some TLC Kyle is much better! The scale rot is gone! So is the wheeze and he is much more pleasant! He loves to roam around but is still a bit cautious. He loves snuggling down in his hide and soaking in nice warm (not too warm!) Water. He is a Columbian Rainbow Boa, so named because of their irredescence when the light hits them. They reflect a rainbow similar to oil in water. Pictures do not do this handsome boy justice!

DID YOU KNOW?
Every snake has spurs next to their cloaca which are the remnants of legs! Males have larger spurs and use them to "hold on" while mating! Boa constrictors are ovoviviparous, meaning they give birth to live young. They are born fully independent and babies will spend a bit more time up in trees and as they grow and become heavier, will settle more on the ground. Females will not mate every year while males will! Females can also mate with more than one male and have 10-64 babies! 🤯🤯 Incredible!

DID YOU KNOW:
Leopard Geckos are crepuscular! This means they sleep most of the day and night, but dawn and dusk are their time to roam, play, eat and explore! They love clutter in their terrariums and are very curious little guys! They also require a minimum of a 2ft long terrarium for an adequate heat gradation. Substrate can be tricky! We use paper towel for the moment for easy cleanups and we can keep an eye on their droppings. Sand is NOT OK. They can ingest it and it can cause impaction which can kill your gecko.
I sure love the little "mlems" they do and if anyone has any questions about care/husbandry, shoot us a message! We are happy to help! We look forward to hopefully hatching some clutches and being able to sell some of these adorable baby Dino's in Dryden!

DID YOU KNOW: Hamsters need AT LEAST 450 square inches of flat ground to run around? 600 is preferred but the cages most pet stores sell are WAY too small. We use very large Sterlite bins for ours so they have enough space to roam, play with toys, and have enough room for their wheels (which also need to be 7.5 inches at least to prevent arching!) They also need about 6 inches of bedding in the bottom of their bins so they can burrow into a hidey hole. 😊 If you have any questions about care/husbandry, give us a shout! We are happy to help!

So disrespectful, I am truly ashamed that people want to be like this. We here at Sunset Exotics only strive for the very best for our animals, and ABSOLUTELY detest inter breeding of family! Please accept my sincerest apologies for anything that you may hear, this has no basis on our current business or goals and seems to be purely out of a personal feeling towards myself and my wife. Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and help us grow! Have a fantastic day everyone!!
