Side of eggs? Why not?!
Just got our Rhine Valley custom mix in from MFA on HWY 100 (GREAT mill - Heather and the team take great care in what they do).
I developed this mash after extensively researching university/ and extension office articles. It is a mix of local corn, soybeans, AA pack, grow 50 supp, and (what are those green flecks?) ALFALFA meal to supplement their already pasture-foraged diet.
I mix higher protein for my heritage breeds until they hit the 100-120 lbs mark. These hogs carry a heavy muscled frame that needs support.
We will cut protein and add in roasted soybeans to finish them. Gonna be some epic meat! And, yes, you do need to pay attention in school to farm properly…you’ll use science and mathematics daily.
Mornin’ from RVF!
Most folks don’t get to see rugged, long/hairy bodied hogs like these any more as heritage breed hogs are being replaced by commercial hogs developed for quick weight gain.
These are registered/papered heritage breed Tamworth hogs that originate from England. Some say that there is no difference in taste between heritage pork and commercial pork…there is a HUGE difference. Taste for yourself this fall.
These hogs will be available for sale by the cut at Rhine Valley Farm Market starting this September.
Mornin’! From Rhine Valley.
Rhine Valley Farm welcomes a new litter of Tamworth pigs to the farm. Tamworth’s are quickly becoming a staple here at RVF. Known for their adaptability to many climates, hardiness, calm temperament, and ability to forage for food turning it into bacon make this breed is a slam dunk.
But you won’t find many. The breed, descending from wild boars in Europe, is listed as “vulnerable” today. Let’s bring them back!
This small herd will produce nearly 1000 pounds of epic meat that will be sold direct to consumer starting in fall.
Easter Special!!
RVF Eggs - skip the chore of dying eggs this year. RVF eggs stand in their own as a beautiful Easter egg. Brown, blue, and green eggs! 30 egg flat for only $10. Order yours today.

And we’re off!
Just finished getting 5 different varieties of heirlooms started in our new germination chamber. This year RVF is trialing soil blocking (a method to start seedlings). So far so good as this is a real space saver. 200 tomato plants got their start in one 10x20 tray.
Super excited to try out our new germination chamber as well (converted from the old coal room in our farm house. A small space makes controlling the temp and humidity very efficient. You can see the low cost infrastructure that we handmade from rough sawn timber. At RVF we make almost all of our infrastructure which helps keep cost down.
Looking forward to the season. This will no doubt be another year of epic food.
These girls (Aunt Cait and Naomi) are going to take great care of you all today at the Washington Farmer’s Market!

The “EGGSTREAM” This morning (using our own mobile coop design - the “EGGSTREAM”) our birds were moved to their um-teenth location this spring. Keeping birds on fresh pasture is a mainstay of RVF’s egg and poultry enterprise. The benefits include new forages and bugs for the birds and, most importantly, constant renewal and regeneration of the land - not constant destruction and wearing out of our soil. And, oh yea, the eggs are truly excellent. #pasturedeggs #regenerativeagriculture #eatlocal #rhinevalleyfarm
