FlexVets vs the rest: Why choose to work with a relief group like FlexVets instead of other relief websites?
This is a question we have been getting a lot lately from potential associate doctors. Why work with a group like FlexVets vs other shift board style services? The answer is, really, many different reasons.
Taxes
This is the big kahuna. Job board style services lead with the per shift rate. Yes, this is a big flashy number. What they aren’t telling you is what is behind this number. On a job board style website, you will be paid on a 1099 as an independent contractor. Make sure you have a good accountant. The website will not withhold any income taxes, nor will they submit any taxes to the government. You will be responsible for pre-paying all state and federal level taxes, and you will be responsible for ADDITIONAL self employment taxes. This is often an end of year shocker for relief veterinarians. At FlexVets you are paid like a normal associate, taxes are withheld and submitted on your behalf (like any other job!) and there are no self employment taxes because you are part of a team.
Benefits
When working with job board style website, you are on your own. Per diem employees at FlexVets receive 401k benefits, with matching starting in 2023. Full time employees are offered health, CE, PTO, and 401k benefits.
Support
With a job board style service, or really most relief groups, you are a number in a database. At FlexVets, our team is staffed with experienced relief veterinarians. We do the same thing as you. We feel your pain after a 12 hour shift. We are there to support you when there is a scheduling mix-up.
Each person has their own needs and we truly want every doctor to be happy and improve their mental health, working wherever is right for them. If you are interested or think FlexVets may be right for you, check out our website at flexvets.com or email us your CV at [email protected]!
