❗ THE UGLY ARM OF CORRUPTION IS THREATENING THE RIGHTS OF ELEPHANTS IN SRI-LANKA.❗
🙏 We believe:
"Elephants and people have equal rights to this island of their birth." — Rukshan Jayawardena.
👉 But "equality for elephants" is threatened by the recent implementation and enforcement of misleading and disingenuous regulations by the government in Sri Lanka, ones that will cement the continuity of the captive elephant industry in perpetuity.
“The Sri Lankan government’s recently gazetted regulations [are] a study in moral incoherence,” Rosemary Alles, president and co-founder, Global March for Elephants and Rhinos.

🌀 “Elephants who are wild in spirit… once broken, will have hopeless, miserable, tortured, toil filled lives, feeding the greed of a pompous few who will justify this enslavement in the name of a culture they do not possess while desecrating the name of the all enlightened one… “— Rukshan Jayawardena, Director, Environmental Foundation Limited
These self-serving changes in governmental policy will affect the lives of captive elephants, their babies, those that struggle as slaved animals, ‘tamed’ for hard, tedious work and for cultural and religious events. Effectively the actions will promote the illegal elephant smuggling racket, both nationally and internationally.
❗ Most egregious:
Elephants are being kept in electrified protected areas - concentration camps not much different from those concentration camps meant for human species erected not so long ago.

Will you join hands in solidarity to demand the right for elephants to live free and wild?
