A lot of people think reactive dogs can’t or may not ever have friends that’s not necessarily true.

Here is Roskoe a rescue dog who was just adopted by his family and was living with them for about a few months in an apartment complex.

Going over the living situation, and care routine, we then setup a training plan for the next 8 weeks. Pet parents continued following up on the homework, reached out with questions, and eventually once we got Roskoe at a point in his training where the handlers felt better and knew what and how to help Roskoe’s threshold level around dogs he’s never met.

We brought in my helper pup Emma, she’s my off leash dog, and has helped tons of reactive dogs make friends over the years and she loves helping out and in turn say hello and sometimes make new friends!

Pet parents feel happy when they know their dog can eventually have doggie friends, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t.

If you follow the training plan your professional trainer (one who has knowledge and the proper skill level in addressing these types of behaviors) then it’s possible that one day your reactive pup can blossom into a confident, less anxious dog and have dog friends too!

These trainers have taken extra steps to achieve this certification and have more advanced knowledge to help you and your dog improve in their training journey!🐾

Understanding why dogs bite the leash. The most common reason for this behavior comes from frustration in the dog. There are ways you can help the dog feel better when out on a walk and reduce that frustration.

A couple of things should raise a red flag in your assessment. If the trainer focuses on a model of dominance and submission—using language like “dominant” and “alpha” —or uses primarily punishment based methods, that trainer doesn’t meet the standards of science-based training.

Giant breeds will always have my heart!🫶🏻

I got lucky to work with these gentle giants when I did! (Yes I have more pics of the Saint Bernard because he was my absolute favorite!) They were the best boys! You can see some videos of them on my other social media platforms🐾♥️🥰

Fun Fact: This Saint Bernard was a direct bloodline descendant from the original dog named Chris in the 1992 Beethoven Movie!😍

Let your dog sniff on walks! Not only is it enriching mentally for your dog, but this also lets your dog take in and know their surroundings, and in doing so you also help minimize pulling behaviors over time when going out on your walks together. It’s a win win for both the pup and pet parent.

As a trainer and dog mom I always think of my dogs emotions! Alisha is reactive and aggressive when encountering “new” dogs she’s never met. She is fully conditioned to the muzzle this provides safety overall and she’s still able to sniff, run around and do things she loves to do. You will see she was still anxious, (but not over threshold) displaying stiff body, ears were pinned back at times, hair sticking up on her back, what i love the most is that when she moved away she did a shake off thats so important! Thats a dog’s way of relieving their stress, i moved to go inside to get some treats because she did FREAKIN fantastic! And she decided to follow me in!❤️ Alisha long ago around 2013 would not have been able to go up to a dog or be near a dog that close without flipping out and you would have seen her not only reacting but redirecting and biting either the dog or if a person was nearby. So yes this is f**king amazing to see!! And shows you exactly how much damn work i put in to get these results!! I’m SO proud of her!!
