Alyssa and Jude Teens and Oregon Mustang Challenge 2022 Hi, my name is Alyssa and I’m a trainer in the Teens and Oregon Mustang Challenge. My Mustang is a 3 year old Palomino Butte gelding, named Jude.

Follow our journey together, as he will be available for adoption on Sept. 4th.

Jude’s and I trail course and freestyle! We weren’t on the correct lead going right but at least he cantered, I went into it expecting not to get a canter at all as that’s something we’ve struggled with... I can’t wait to continue working him as I can officially call him mine, but right now I think we both need a well deserved break!

Competition weekend is officially over, I had a blast and Jude absolutely blew me away! I knew he was a stud but we won first in adult novice body conditioning, along with first in the Wilco purina challenge for 2+ years olds, and 2nd overall in those who entered in the purina challenge! We definitely have a lot to improve on but I’m pretty proud of Jude as we ended up getting 6th out of 15! I wish I could take all the credit but Jude has always been such a calm chill horse and I’m grateful to officially call him mine!

Jude just eating breakfast with no idea about what’s happening this weekend😬. Of course being the procrastinator I am, I waited until today to pack and give him a bath, luckily packing went relatively quickly and now I’m just waiting for it to heat up a little bit before I give him a bath.

Jude and I conquered the Historic Columbia River Highway! Took our very first outing on the main road, and he did great! It was just around the block but he walked quietly when cars zoomed past or dogs charged to the edge of their properties barking, wasn’t bothered at all! He was also by himself without any other horses!

Jude also did great when we went on a little trail ride even with a loose horse and the other horses trotting ahead he kept his cool and listened instead of trying to bolt back to the herd… He did have to get a couple reminders but over all he did fantastic!

Did something new today, Breezy the 30year old appy mare in the background decided to follow Jude and I into the roundpen before I had a chance to close it, and instead of chasing her out I decided to just work around her. Jude did great listening to me and not getting worked up by the other horse even lunged him without the halter on and with Breezy trotting in the opposite direction he listened to just me instead of trying to follow his 30 year old girlfriend😂

I went into this challenge with the full expectation to sell this horse and be done with horses in general… Before this competition I was beginning to fall out of love with horses and this was supposed to be my last hurrah. I am so incredibly thankful that God sent me Jude because he renewed my love for horses and it’s stronger than ever!  Jude has allowed me to become so much more confident in myself and my horsemanship and I have completely fallen in love with him.  because of this I have decided to keep Jude and he is no longer on the market… I hoped to announce it sooner but I’ve been trying to figure out my financial situation to be 100% sure I could give him the life he deserves. Thank you everyone for the support and the kind words…. I’m sorry but Jude is NOT FOR SALE!

Jude and I had a busy week at camp, so sorry for not posting much, but it was also very good for him! He went on his first trail ride, he went onto the beach, learned how to load onto a flatbed trailer and how to back out of a trailer along with bowing! Jude got exposed to loud sirens, large crowds, elk, deer, loud/low flying planes and handled it all like a champ! Jude is one special horse!

Jude got trimmed for the first time! He stood pretty solidly, he did try to move occasionally but overall he did really well! He was a saint for dealing with me while I was being taught how to trim. No stress or explosions, but I also had a pretty good farrier helping me!

Swung a leg over Jude for the first time last night from the ground, I was pretty nervous but he stood like a champ other than stomping at flies, which didn’t help my heart rate but at least he was unbothered by me. Only mishap of the night was one of the times I tried to step up in the stirrup, the whole saddle slid, since he doesn’t have any withers. He let me undo the cinches and adjust everything without a fuss!
