I had a hunter reach back out and provide closure on a buck we tracked on opening day. He had shot it with a .270, and we stayed on that trail for almost three hours before deciding it was non-recoverable and likely still alive.
Roughly a week ago, a neighboring hunter harvested that same buck. The original shot hit low brisket, and exited just in front of the opposite shoulder, leaving a large wound, but not a fatal one at the time of the first hit.
We’re grateful for the closure and continually amazed by just how tough these animals are.
Closure means a lot, for us and for the hunter.
