We are looking for a seasoned saltwater aquarist to help manage our growing online aquaculture facility in Port St. Lucie, FL

We are Oceans’ Garden Aquaculture and we sell aquacultured fish, coral, and invertebrates to hobbyists around the country.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated, hard working, timely, able to work in a fast paced environment, be proficient in saltwater aquarium marine life identification, coral fragging, and husbandry. Other duties include selecting and packing the daily orders, daily upkeep of the facility, and working with the Director of Operations on projects to move the brand forward.

Minimum Requirements:

*Experience with saltwater aquariums.

*Experience with coral fragging.

*Flexible schedule, may include weekends.

*The ability to lift up to 70 lbs.

*Willing to work in a hot and humid environment.

In the aquarium trade there are 3 types of copePODS that tend to get bottled and sold; Harpacticoid (benthic), Calanoid (pelagic) and Cyclopoid (that can exhibit both benthic and/or pelagic characteristics). CopePODS in general are small, not be confused with amphipods which are bigger, comma shaped PODS. We do not call CopePODS microscopic because they can be seen with the naked eye, but the nauplii (babies) are. CopePODS play a very important role in the aquatic ecosystem. The bottom line is that they are critical in the cycling of carbon. CopePODS eat detritus, phytotplankton, dead, decaying matter, each other, and turn these items into important fatty acids. Calanoids tend to eat phytoplankton; harpacticoids tend to eat detritus; Cyclopoids are similar to both, and depending on the species some eat f***l pellets of other copePODS.

The Peppermint shrimp (Lysmata sp.) can serve valuable roles within the reef aquarium. They are commonly observed vigorously removing external parasites from aquarium inhabitants. Most notably, the Peppermint shrimp is highly desirable due to their tendency to consume and control the spread of developing nuisance Aiptasia anemones. Lysmata sp. will not eat corals, but due to the confusion of similar looking species, care must be taken to be sure you're acquiring the proper shrimp. Some imposters will eat coral flesh and using a reputable source for your peppermint shrimp is recommended. Peppermint shrimp are scavengers and will contribute to your CUC by helping to process excess fish food and waste from narrow crevasses within the rockwork of the aquarium. Aquacultured peppermint shrimp are eco-friendly and always ready to eat. A brief period of aquarium fasting may aide in coercing the peppermint shrimp to eat budding Aiptasia anemones. https://www.oceansgarden.com/product/peppermint-shrimp/

Clownfish play a vital role in increasing oxygen flow to their host anemone. Research has shown anemones that host clownfish consume nearly double the amount of dissolved oxygen as those that do not host anemone fish. Leptoseris sp. are about as easy going as stony corals get. They naturally inhabit areas where lighting is less intense, water is turbid and flow is fairly weak . Leptoseris is well suited for reef aquariums when flow, light and water quality are stable and within generally accepted hobby standards. Leptoseris corals hold their rich and often stunning color really well. If any Genus of small polyp stony coral, could be mistaken for Montipora, it’s certainly the Porites sp. Porites skeleton is considerably more dense with columellae, meaning the polyp's center is filled with material while it appears hollow in Montipora sp. Pomacentrus moluccensis, also known as the Lemon Damsel, is a small, bright yellow damselfish that sometimes has vibrant blue lines across its head and fins. As it matures the bright yellow colors becomes more subtle and the damsel becomes less shy and reserved. This damsel is often found in the tank investigating branching corals and hiding among live rock crevices. They are generally best kept singly in tanks of at least 20 gallons with plenty of live rock. The Lemon Damsel’s diet includes a mixture of live, frozen, and flake foods. It can be wise to add this damsel to a community tank last to avoid territorial behavior. Acanthastrea lordhowensis is one of the most popular species of large polyp stony coral. After nearly two decades of referring to this beautiful coral as Acan Lords, we’re now going to have to get used to calling them Micromussa lordhowensis or Micro lords.
