FALCON POX part.II (🇵🇱 version below)

As there is no specific treatment for the virus, therapy focus on supportive care.⛑️🩺
✔️Desinfection of changed areas (Betadine, chlorhexidine); it is recommend to keep high hygiene, cleaning after feeding all the equipment (perch, glove, jesses, anklets etc.)🧼🚿🧽
✔️Scabs can be treated with Mercurochrome, F10 Germicidal Barrier Oitment, Betadine Ointment in combination with antibiotic, antifungal and antiinflamatory drugs 💊
✔️Steroids ointment (f.ex. Fucicort) should be AVOIDED (they can increase the disease!) ⛔
✔️Vitamin A supplementation aid healing 🩹
✔️For immunostimulation, we can use products that contain echinacea, betaglucane or injectable immunomodulators (Zylexis)🌿🦠
✔️Laser, electrocautery or cryotherapy can be used on early-staged lessions🔅🔫
✔️After healing scabs will fall off, uncovering the healthy tissue and should NOT be removed!⛔
✔️Even healed, disease can leave permanent scars, depigmentation or talon loss.
✔️Securing aviaries and molting chambers (with insect netting) is important, especially during mosquito season, as well as taking care of environment
(ponds, dense vegetation, thuja trees atract mosquitos)🚫🌲🦟

Z powodu braku konkretnego leku przeciwwirusowego, leczenie polega na równoczesnym stymulowaniu odporności i unikaniu wtórnych zakażeń.⛑️🩺
✔️Zmienione miejsca należy odkażać kilka razy dziennie (jodyną(Betadine), chlorheksydyną), a także pamietać o zachowaniu czystości podczas karmienia, myciu i dezynfekcji rękawic, siedzisk, pęt, szczepek itd🧼🚿🧽
✔️Bezpośrednio na strupy stosuje się preparaty lub ich mieszanki, takie jak Mercurochrome, F10 Germicidal Barrier Ointments, Betadine maść, w połączeniu z antybiotykami i lekami przeciwgrzybiczymi, przeciwzapalnymi💊
✔️Należy UNIKAĆ preparatów i maści zawierających sterydy (np. Fucicort, Triderm, Pimafucort itp.), stosowanie ich może nasilić zmiany!⛔
✔️Suplementacja witaminą A wspomaga gojenie🩹
✔️W celu stymulacji odporności stosuje się preparaty zawierające wyciąg z jeżówki, betaglukan, biostyminę lub iniekcyjne immunomodulanty (Zylexis)🌿🦠
✔️Możliwe jest także wymrażanie, laseroterapia lub elektrokauteryzacja zmian w znieczuleniu🔅🔫
✔️Strupy po wygojeniu odpadają samoistnie, odsłaniając zdrową tkankę, NIE NALEŻY ich samodzielnie usuwać! ⛔
✔️Zmiany mogą pozostawiać trwałe blizny, może także dojść do depigmentacji tkanek lub trwałej utraty szponów/fragmentów palców
✔️Warto pomysleć o zabezpieczeniu ptaków przed dostępem komarów (osiatkowanie wolier) oraz zadbać o otoczenie (obecność oczek wodnych, gęstej roślinności, tuj ściąga owady)🚫🌲🦟

FALCON POX part.I (🇵🇱 version below)

✔️is caused by a large DNA Avipoxvirus, of the Poxviridae family🧬
✔️Virus can by transmited by direct contact with lessions, but the main route is via mosquitos and other blood-sucking arthropods🦟
✔️Falcon pox usually appears as rounded, crusty lessions on unfeathered skin (around eyes,nares,cere,feet), or (very rarely) on mucous membranes of the mounth, respiratory tract, viscera.
✔️Lessions can develop into large, irregular scabs, which can be easily secondary infected. Advanced cases may lead to septicemia and deaths!☠️
✔️Poxvirus has strong host specificity, there is: falcon pox virus, pigeon poxvirus, quail pox virus etc. There is no proven transfer between the random species.🚫🔄
⚠️Vaccinating falcons with fowl or pigeon vaccines has questionable efficiency, but currently exist specific Falcon Pox Vaccine on the market
✔️Therapy with acyclovir (Zovirax, Hascovir, Heviran,..) is not effective, as it works mainly against other types of virus (Herpesvirus)!⛔️

✔️wywoływana jest przez duży DNA Avipoxvirus, należący do rodziny Poxviridae🧬
✔️Wirus ten może być przenoszony przez kontakt bezpośredni ze zmianami i błonami śluzowymi, jednakże głównym wektorem są komary i inne owady krwiopijne🦟
✔️Ospa ptasia powoduje powstawanie najczęściej okrągłych, strupkowatych zmian na nieopierzonej skórze (wokół oczu, na powiekach, woskówce, łapach),
ale także (dużo rzadziej) na nabłonkach ukł.pokarmowego, oddechowego, narządach wewnętrznych.
✔️Zmiany, w miarę rozwoju choroby, mogą zlewać się ze sobą, tworząc bardziej nieregularne, duże strupy. Mogą one łatwo ulec wtórnych zakażeniom. W ciężkich przypadkach, może dojść do sepsy i zgonu!☠️
✔️Poxvirusy są ścisłe gatunkowo, oznacza to że istnieją odpowiednio: wirus ospy sokoli, wirus gołębi, wirus przepiórek itd.
Ptaki różnych gatunków nie zarażają się od siebie🚫🔄
⚠️Dlatego też skuteczność stosowania szczepionek przeznaczonych dla innych gatunków u ptaków drapieżnych jest dyskusyjna!
Obecnie na rynku dostępna jest szczepionka specjalnie dla sokołów (Falcon Pox Vaccine)
✔️Stosowanie leków zawierających Acyclovir (Zovirax, Hascovir, Heviran itp.) nie przynosi efektu, dlatego że działają na inny typ wirusów (Herpeswirusy)!⛔️

Leather hood is a very useful tool used in falconry🦅 However, wrong size can lead to painful abrasions and wounds on the gapes, cere and eyelids.
💡 Each owner should carefully check the head of the bird and the hood's interior from time to time, as well as remember not to keep the bird hooded for extend period of time
