Our SUNNY FLATS KEN will be offered for sale as a gelding upon weaning in March. He is a wee fellow with excellent conformation, short and solid and will likely mature on the smaller side.

Please be aware we will only send our donkeys to homes with another donkey companion or where there are already other donkeys to join their herd. We only have the one jack foal to offer (who will be gelded) so you will need to already have donkeys or have another lined up with another breeder. To enquire please send us a pm.

Go Paddy!

Shaping behaviour with R+ is about reinforcing very small approximations of the goal behaviour. If he even looked at the pedestal (and I started with the lowest one first), I clicked and reinforced that behaviour. I used my position to give him clues and clicked for any foot movement at the start.

He was quickly stepping up and then we tried for the biggest pedestal and he did it no problem, as he understood the behaviour and had built confidence on the lower pedestal.

He made a face when I stepped away, but I prefer him to be opinionated than scared all the time.

Such a sweet little donk!

Update on our little Josie. 🫏💛
All of Josie’s blood, f***l, & culture results have come back. 🤗
The good news:
All of her blood work was within normal range, other than her triglycerides. (Which we know, Josie is overweight. The girl has a thicker crest than we’d like.)
In addition, her cultures were also a ‘normal’ load of bacteria for an equine. 👍🏼
The not as good of news:
Despite being dewormed in the spring, she carried a count of 450 parasite eggs per gram, in addition to having a tapeworm. (500 is a high shedder)
She was last dewormed with Equimax (ivermectin/praziquantel), so we dewormed her with Quest Plus (moxidectin/praziquantel) to lessen the chance of resistance to ivermectin. Using moxidectin is kind of ‘taboo’ for donkeys, but ours did fine with the drug. 😅 We will recheck her stool in another week.
She also is carrying a moderate amount of sand in her stool, so we are treating her with Sand Clear (psyllium husk) 7 days out of the month for a few months to move sand out of her gut. We have sandy soil & we have had an extremely dry summer, so intake of sand has been more as the donkeys like to pull up & eat roots.
In addition, we also took her off her probiotics.
Our vet wants us to do Sand Clear for a few months to see if there is a change of the fluctuation of diarrhea in her stool.
So right now, it’s a bit of a waiting game, but at least we are using process of elimination on what is going on. She also does not believe Josie has an ulcer, due to the fact that she really doesn’t have a reason to have one. 🤷🏻‍♀️
For now, Josie has had no change of behavior & seems to be her sweet, normal self. 🥰 What a learning experience this has become! 😅
Also, Josie gets an A+ on her hoof trim today. 😎

Autumn update: Last night she was in a stall with Franklin and Cole. The boys loved it, just eating and sleeping 'round the clock She paced but did well. Today we let her back out with the herd and she did pretty well too. She came and went from her stall on her own but didn't want to stay in if the gate was closed. We are going to see how she does with everyone loose tonight. Fingers crossed!

Momma Red is adjusting, she let us give her lots of butt scratches today and she isn't calling out to Autumn. That definitely helps the process. Her udder is quite full but soon she will stop producing milk and use those nutrients for herself.

We will be watching the cameras tonight and hopefully Autumn relaxes and settles in with her buddies.

Well seems to be another season of boys, but dang are they perfect tiny little things, born late last night Debbie 45” and Bruno 39” knocked it out of the park with this 21” tall shorty bull calf, perfect Highpark markings and he’s loaded with fluff from the get go.. He was up and nursing within minutes … I will get better pix once he’s fully dried off and out on pasture but couldn’t resist sharing this little darling with you … g

Satin Doll gave birth to a beautiful foal at 10:15 last night and so far it’s doing great!

Wobbly legs and cute little ears, this little one has stolen our hearts.
