I had the chance to attend an Owl Presentation at Wild Birds Unlimited in Setauket, and it was both informative and fascinating. I had no idea there were so many different types of owls! We even got to pet a couple of them. 🦉 If you're interested, WBU is hosting another presentation this Sunday at their Oakdale location.

Meet Rex, a spry and youthful 10-year-old Sheltie! He’s heading to the vet for a neuter and dental check-up before moving to his foster home, where he’ll wait for his perfect forever family. This is his first real experience with other dogs, and he’s adjusting happily. Rex would thrive in an adult home, with or without other dogs. He adores everyone he meets but seems to have a special soft spot for men. He’s great on a leash and mostly house-trained (a little marking is expected initially). If you’re interested, please apply at LISSR.net. This adorable fuzzball will be ready soon to settle into his new life and is sure to transition easily to the right home.

Because we are a foster-based rescue with no physical shelter, we only have the capacity to save as many dogs as we have foster parents. When you become a foster parent with Long Island Shetland Sheepdog Rescue, Inc., you will personally be saving the life of a dog who might have otherwise not received a second chance.
If we don't have a place to house a homeless Sheltie, we can't take it into Rescue!

Fostering a dog is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. It’s a journey of compassion, patience, and love, providing temporary care to dogs in need of a forever home. Foster parents play a crucial role in the animal rescue community, offering a bridge between past hardships and a hopeful future for these dogs.

If interested, please go to our website and fill out our Foster Application. When you see that first tail wag or the light come back into their eyes you'll be happy you did.

Meet Lucy, Katie, and Rex! These three lovely additions joined our LISSR family this past weekend. Lucy is a 4-year-old female who is fully up-to-date on her vaccinations. Katie, also a 4-year-old female, is current on her vaccinations but will need a dental procedure. Lastly, there's Rex, a 10-year-old male who is slightly overweight and requires both neutering and a dental procedure. We'll share more updates as we get to know them better!

💔🐾It’s a sad day for LISSR as Dolores and Dennis have lost their sweet boy, Kashi. Kashi joined the rescue in 2014 as a 1-1/2-year-old, handsome blue merle. Dolores shared that Kashi wasn’t interested in toys; he preferred being with his people. Kashi will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

💖🐾Eddie, a 7-year-old, and Elsa, a 5-year-old, are two inseparable Shelties who can't figure out why no one wants to adopt them. They adore spending time with their people and are as sweet and well-behaved as can be. Both are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered/spayed, and freshly groomed. Could you be the family to give them the loving home they deserve? After all, Shelties are like potato chips—you can't have just one!
