Academy is a private dog service run, owned, and managed by Averi Rojas. Academy offers several training options in order to better cater to your specific needs. Academy also offers some in home pet care! As of now, we do not have our own facility. But we are lucky enough to have amazing supporters who allow us to work in their space! We are looking forward to hearing from you and your beloved fur

This is Lola! She is estimated to be around 1.5 years old.
She knows how to sit, walks wonderfully on a leash, and is always quiet in her kennel.
Lola goes out into play groups with dogs of similar size.
Lola does not play well with cats.
She is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated! She is at Companion Animal Alliance, all ready to go for you!

If you adopt Lola, or any shelter/rescue dog, Arf! Academy will take $25 off of every training session, and 10$ off all other services.

Denver knows sit, down, and paw, walks wonderfully on a leash, and is always quiet in his kennel.
He goes out into play groups with dogs of similar size.
Denver has had mixed reviews when it comes to cats.
He is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated! He is at Companion Animal Alliance, all ready to go for you!

Happy Monday! ✨

The word of the week is: Consistency!

By being consistent every day, for even just 5 minutes, you will see dramatic changes with your dog.

Matcha, for example, hates having her feet touched. We have to keep her nails short, for comfort and safety. For one week, we worked on cooperative nail care.

What you see is 4 days worth of training; 5 minutes everyday.

It took Matcha two days for the skill to make sense, and another two days for her to be really comfortable with it!

With a little consistency, you can do it, too!

❄️WINTER WEATHER WARNING❄️

In Louisiana, we aren’t used to this kind of intense weather. Here are some tips that can help keep you and your animals safe during the upcoming freeze.

🌡️Temperatures will get as low as 24°F.

🧥Try sweaters or jackets for long outdoor trips, or stick to short/limited outside time.

🏠Outside dogs and cats need waterproof, wind proof shelters packed with straw - that are just big enough for them to stand up, turn around and lie down.

🧊Do not use blankets or towels, as they can get wet and freeze.

🚘Before starting your car, check if any stray animals are hiding in your vehicle.
If you are traveling with an animal, please ensure that they are safely secure in the car.

Arf! Academy does not shame any owners with outdoor pets, and we understand that outdoor pets are just as loved as those kept indoors.

On that same note, if you feel as though an animal is being inhumanely treated, or does not have proper protection from the weather, please call your local animal control or your police department to file a report.

Happy New Year!

Arf! Academy is excited to share our official 2024 updates!

First and foremost, you may have noticed that we are no longer "Arf! Academy Training" and are now Arf! Academy.
We mean it when we say "more than just training." We want our name to reflect that.

We have a new team member! We are so excited to have added a social media manager, and you may have already noticed her awesome work with our new designs.

Arf! Academy is excited to go paperless! We are also looking forward to new partnerships in the coming future!

Most importantly, we have new services ready to go, more informational videos that we are excited to share, and some more fun and care-free content coming your way.

Our website needed a deeper clean, so it may not reflect the current updates. Thank you for your patience as we get the website refreshed.

Arf! Academy thanks you for your continued support throughout the past year (and some) and are excited to bring you with us into 2024.

You may have noticed Arf! Academy has been silent for a while. Don't worry, we have still been taking clients and training dogs!
We want to officially announce that Arf! Academy is under construction! We are working hard to bring you a better Arf! Academy for 2024.

As you can see, we have three wonderful team members working tirelessly to ensure that everything runs smoothly and we're on schedule.

‼️🚨Betty Spaghetti has found placement🚨‼️
Shelter Saturdays!

Take a look at Betty Spaghetti! She is around 4 years old. Just look at this little lady. Betty is the perfect mix of fun and relaxation, and would be happy laid up on the couch or taking a small hike outside. Really she's just happy to be involved! She does great in playgroup with medium-large dogs, and it is believed she may be kennel/potty trained. Miss Spaghetti is also spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated! All ready to go for you!

Motivational tip Monday

Did you know that EVERYTHING you do is training? And everything you DONT DO is training too! Take some time, slow down, and live in the moment with you dog. Training is so much more than sit, stay, and routine tricks and basic obedience. Your dog knows that training is always; do you?
Spending time with your dog? Training.
Napping in your couch while your dog chills in the kennel? Training.
Training is all day every day! So take it slow, and just be in the moment.

Start Fresh Sunday!

Remember to take your sundays and start fresh with your training, or your day to day routine with your pet. Look at your past week, ask yourself what you can improve upon, what worked, or what didn't work. Adjust as necessary!
This sunday I'm thinking about all of the training I've done this past week with my clients, as well as with my own dogs. Preparing myself for this next week to come, and taking a minute to enjoy myself!
Sundays are supposed to be lazy days, so take today and just relax. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Now go out and get some puppy kisses. You're gonna need them!

Want to know my favorite way of training? It's called "Free-Shaping" or "Capturing". It's kind of like letting your dog teach itself. Stand in front of your dog, and just wait. Don't say anything. Don't do anything. Just see what they do. When they sit, reward. If they lie down, reward (etc). It's my favorite way to train because it's fun and challenging. It's a battle of patience. I also find that your dog can learn these simpler commands a little bit faster than your usual methods. Try it out with your dog at home!
I also find that Free Shaping builds a stronger connection with your dog! That's another reason why I love it! Connection and trust are what I do best when it comes to training.

There is a common misconception that dog owning / dog training is a straight up-hill scale. Kinda like this: 📈 and once you start and complete training, you'll have a perfect dog forever.
But, this isn't the case. And, unfortunately, no amount of training will get rid of those "bad days."
Puppy raising, dog owning, and training are all kind of like a rollercoaster. Some days you feel like there is nothing happening. Like you're stuck. You're kind of on the boring part of the ride. Other days it feels amazing as you ride the incline to the top! And other days it feels like your plummeting down, screaming... yes, literally screaming! Maybe you even feel upside down.
It is perfectly normal to experience all of this!!! One day you have a perfect sit, stay, and down, and the next it seems like your dog is ignoring you and suddenly doesn't know his/her name. (This gets especially worse when your angel puppy starts to turn into a teenager)
Do not feel embarassed if this is you! Don't feel like you didn't do a good job of training, or raising your dog. Like the saying goes: kids will be kids. And it's the same for dogs too! Some days you have to take it back to the basics, and that's okay! Training / dog owning is NOT linear. Besides, riding a rollercoaster that only goes up is so, so boring. Have fun and enjoy the ride!
