We have these two stunning aussie boys at the shelter right now. They are lovely, friendly guys and only about a year old. Unsurprisingly, they are becoming stressed in this environment. This is very common for their age and breed.

Little kids and cats unknown, they may be "herdy" with those things but very friendly and outgoing fellas.

Both have one blue eye! Active homes a must

The Dutchess County SPCA is looking for a foster home for a bonded pair of canines: Kaylee and Nibs. Kaylee recently had her eyes remove and her friend Nibs helps her navigate the world.

Shockingly, this guy is available for adoption! Stryker is a male/neutered 1yo purebred golden! The quick overview:

-good with dogs
-probably good with cats, interacted with them well through a baby gate
-older kids or adult-only is best at this time
-loves to play, loves toys
-the main reason he is with us is he is HIGH ENERGY!!!
-mostly housetrained and crate trained, sleeps in a crate

He is a teenage boy and again the feedback we've gotten from his fosters and folks who have had them in their home is this boy has ENERGY. He is not a couch potato. Normal for his breed and age :)

Call me at 607-547-8111 ext. 107 ! Can provide additional info & details!

Let’s rethink rescue language ❤️

Let’s rethink rescue language ❤️

Longtime followers of our page will confirm that we never use the phrase “forever home” (or the cringeworthy “FURever home”) to describe our adoptions.

We have reasons for this. Sure, it’s cute (though we’ll be honest, “furever” makes us gag a bit). But we always keep in mind one important truth: there are no certainties in life.

Pets are surrendered to shelters and rescues for oodles of reasons, and many of them are absolutely legitimate. People lose homes, go bankrupt, get divorced, and die.

In this brutal rental and home-buying market, secure and stable housing can be uncertain for many. It’s not okay to flippantly say, “I’d live in my car before I’d give up my pets,” unless you have actually been in that situation and made that choice. Many folks have other considerations, such as their children, that would prevent this from being an option.

Sometimes the dog or cat someone chose simply isn’t a good match, or isn’t the right fit any longer. Adopting is like getting married to someone you just met that very day. When viewed through that lens, it’s quite impressive that many pets remain in their original homes at all.

If your friends announce they’re getting a divorce, is your first response to ask them if they tried hard enough? Got marriage counseling? Tell them they don’t deserve love ever again? Or are you supportive and kind? (We bet that you are.)

Sure, there are some surrenders that make us sad, or even angry. But in those cases, we see an opportunity to help that pet find a better situation.

So we don’t say “forever” in our posts or on our website. It creates an unrealistic expectation and can cause people to feel shame if they have a very real need to surrender.

Everyone adopts with the very best of intentions. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn. We and many other shelters and rescues are here to help as much as we can. ❤🐾

SHEPPY FOLKS: 🐾🥏🎾

Posting on here because I think one of my training or dog sport friends would have a blast with this gal! She’s ready to work!

Young female pup (about 4 months or so, she’s losing puppy teeth currently!) came in as a stray and is now available for adoption!

Active, mouthy, and needs a job!

Message me if you are ready for *high key* puppy nonsense and have the time and energy for this babe. She’s gorgeous. 😍

🩹 Medical Foster Needed: 🚨

We have this super sweet aussie/(probably BC) nugget here that has a foot injury. 🦶

We are looking for a foster with ideally medical experience that is ok with dealing with a bit of a graphic foot injury. He needs a quiet place to be, like a separate room, for his foot to heal. He needs bandage changes every day and someone who will work with our medical team closely to monitor his progress. 📈

The tough part it this guy came from a working farm where he herded livestock all day long, so he’s having a tough time and we have been doing our best to manage his stress, but recovering in a foster home would be best!

Message me or call 607-547-8111 ext #107 and I can chat with you more ❤️‍🩹

FOR ADOPTION 🤍🤍🤍

This is our little foster pup, “Jon Snow” (I didn’t name him lol)

He’s about 5 months now, and is a cattle dog (likely BC) mix from an Amish farm (likely working lines). He’s the last of his litter that’s up for adoption! 🐾

He’s mostly housetrained but has p*e accidents occasionally. He’s wonderful with the pack of dogs he lives with and his favorite is one of our young female huskies. This guy is *high energy* and would like an active home with another dog (or few). Also lives with dog-savvy cats. 🐱🐶

He would love some land or a country/farm home 🏡🏞️

He loves people and is very outgoing. Smaller kids seem to make him a little nervous but he’s done lovely with older kids. Classic to his breed and age, he’s a bit mouthy. Lots of people ask about his hearing, he can hear absolutely fine and is wonderul off leash, comes right back when you call him!

I adore him but we simply cannot keep them all! I would really just be tickled if he got a dog sport placement or with someone I know. PM me or call me at 607-547-8111, ext #107 ☎️

Dog lovers - we need your help! 🙏

Our foster families play a crucial role in what we do by providing a branch off of our shelter for our animals to thrive in while waiting for adopters to come along. 👏 Each animal in a foster home clears a kennel at our shelter, giving us the opportunity to take in another who needs our help. 🥰 This allows us to expand our impact, helping even more animals each year. 🙌

Dogs from our shelter might need a foster home for a number of reasons, but some of the most common are: extra socialization, a nice place to decompress away from the busy shelter environment, time to grow before being eligible for adoption (puppies), special medical needs, and more! 🐶

✨Did you know that we will pick your foster dog up and bring them to and from your house for veterinary visits and meets with potential adopters? As long as you live in Otsego County, our staff will gladly help with transportation! 🚗🚙

🌟We also offer 24/7 medical support for our foster parents, all of the supplies you need to care for our animals while they are in your care, resources for success, and more! 🐶💕

Give us a call at 607-547-8111 or email [email protected] to learn more about becoming a foster parent today! 💜🐾

**This project has been supported by a grant from PEDIGREE Foundation.

Thinking about adopting a pet? 🤔

It's your lucky day! 🍀 Starting tomorrow, March 15th, through Saturday, March 18th, cat and dog adoption fees will be waived* during our St. Pittie's (& Kittie's😼) Day Sale. 🙌

This could not come at a better time because we are currently at our capacity for care, which means there are lots of furry friends for you to choose from who would love to join your family! 🥰

Adopting a pet from us while we are full means you are actually saving two animals, because the one you are taking home is making space for one on our waiting list who needs our help! 🥹

If you’re unable to adopt, please consider fostering, even if it’s just for a few days to give a pet a break from the shelter and clear space. 🙏

✨ Can’t adopt or foster? No problem! All we ask is that you share this post to help it reach folks that may be able to help, and if you can, make a donation to help us continue to care for animals in need. 🐾💜

*Adoptions are subject to approval, additional fees may apply.

We are open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm this week with extended hours on Thursday (5-7pm).

These two are currently at the Susquehanna SPCA and could really use foster (or adoptive) homes!

The breeds everyone always asks for! Toy poodle and bulldog!

Both are puppy mill boys that were rescued from Amish mills in OH. They are both fearful and would greatly benefit from quiet, patient homes with other dogs to help show them the ropes!

Please call the shelter if you can help this poor fellas out!

This little reindeer is ready for Santa Paws to come to town! 🎅🦌

The only thing on her Christmas list this year is to find a forever family to spend the holiday season with. 🥰 Can you make her wish come true? 🙏🎄

Melody is a 5 year old, incredibly lovable pup who would make a perfect family companion! She is a staff and volunteer favorite who loves to go on walks and to play in the yard. Melody can be a little picky about who her doggie playmates are, but she may get along well with a mellow pup. She should go to a home without kitties. Give us a call to schedule a time to meet Melody! 🐾💜
