🐾 National Check the Chip Day is Tomorrow! 🐾

Join us on Thursday, August 15th, for National Check the Chip Day! Microchips are vital in reuniting lost or stolen pets with their families—but they only work if the registration information is accurate.

To celebrate, 1st Pet will be scanning every pet's microchip for free to confirm their information. Make sure your pet's microchip details are up to date!

Mesa - Dave Walrath has been apart of 1st Pet since 2016 and although he’s based out of Chandler, his Mesa team nominated him for his consistent professionalism, reliability and compassion that he shows for the entire 1st Pet team. Dave is almost always available when we call him and he’s always willing to help out with any IT issue, no matter how big or small. He comes in with a smile and he’s always so friendly and professional in his interactions. He is extremely reliable and plays an intricate role for us at 1st Pet and we truly appreciate him beyond words.

Chandler - Dr. Robin Kachka joined the 1st Pet Team in September 2017 and consistently demonstrates exceptional dedication. Recently, she went above and beyond by ensuring a client had their health certificate for travel to Australia, even working on vacation and her day off. This shows her commitment to clients and 1st Pet. Dr. Kachka is always on time, follows policies, and seeks additional work, displaying efficiency and thoroughness. Colleagues love working with her, and clients appreciate her exceptional care. Her work ethic and positive impact make her an outstanding candidate for this recognition.

North Valley - Danielle Boggis has worked with 1st Pet since November 2022 but it feels like longer, in a good way. She has worked with our primary care team and has been an exceptional team player. She strives to improve her skills and is always willing to lend a helping hand or pick up emergency shifts. She has a kind and generous demeanor which makes her fun to work with and be around. Congrats Danielle!

Need a gift idea for the pet lover in your life? Or an activity to help you beat the heat? Well, friendship bracelets are back in style, and we have the perfect one for pet lovers!

Snap a photo of your pet's eye color (or if you have several pets, a photo of each of theirs) plus a photo of your eye color. Then, head to your nearest craft store, go to the bead section, and pick out a set of color beads that match each pet's eye color and yours! You will also want to pick out a spool of stretchy bracelet string. Take your supplies home and create your new favorite piece of jewelry! Tag us in your photos so we can see your masterpieces! Here's an example from one of our employees and their pets.

"🐾🏅 Meet Cooper, our Badge of Honor for Bravery and Healing award winner! When his family was away, Cooper fell seriously ill with pneumonia. He was brought to 1st Pet, where he received the utmost love and care from our dedicated team. Cooper showed incredible bravery throughout his treatment, reminding us just how strong our fur babies can be.

Special thanks to our amazing staff who went above and beyond, even transporting Cooper to another location to ensure he got the best care possible when his family wasn’t here to take him themselves. Our team treated Cooper like our own, and we're so proud of his recovery. Cooper, you are a true hero, and we are honored to have been part of your journey to health. ❤️🐶 "

We were told that looking at pictures of kittens can boost your dopamine and serotonin levels. (We’re not people doctors, so don’t quote us on that!) So, here’s some adorable pictures of Dimitri, a 3 month old kitten, visiting us for his wellness exam and vaccines. He did such an amazing job and definitely brightened the day of every person who got to see him! Thanks for visiting Dimitri!

This is Rza, he's been seeing 1st pet for just over a year now and today was his last day of his SECOND round of chemo therapy with Dr. Kreissler! He is an incredibly sweet boy who loves to go on walks and despite his lymphoma is still jumping up on park benches and exam tables like he always has! We absolutely adore him and though we are happy he has completed his treatment we are sad that we won't be getting to see him anymore.

UPDATE: We have received great news about Halloween’s visit with us last week here at 1st Pet Vet. As a kitten he had tested positive for FELV (feline leukemia virus) which causes an immune deficiency and shortened life span. He was tested again right before his family adopted him and they were told the results were inconclusive. Now that Halloween is 1-year old, his family brought him in to be retested and hoped to get answers. At first our tests were also inconclusive, but through the hard work and determination of Dr. Mumaw and her team, we got results! We are happy to report that Halloween has tested NEGATIVE for FELV, and is expected to live a long and happy life with his family.
We wish Halloween and his family all the best, and we look forward to continuing to take care of them for many years to come!

Halloween came in for a recheck and bloodwork, which he wasn't too excited about. He's a great kiddo and such a beautiful, sweet boy! Unfortunately, his tests were inconclusive, so we don't have the answers right away as we had hoped. Hang in there, Halloween! ❤️🐾

Thanks for visiting us Simba! We had the pleasure of seeing Simba, an 8-year old terrier mix, here at 1st Pet Vet for his annual wellness exam....and he did great! Regular physical exams are important because they help us assess your pet's general health and allows us monitor any changes over time. For older pets, we recommend a wellness exam every 6 months. Pets age much more quickly than humans, resulting in accelerated age-related decline that requires frequent assessment. It would be our pleasure to help your pet stay healthy and thrive! Schedule a wellness exam with us today!

Meet Titan! He is a two month old puppy who recently visited us here at 1st Pet. Titan came to us because he wasn't eating, had diarrhea, was vomiting foam, and was lethargic. These are the most common and frequently seen symptoms of Canine Parvovirus.

What is parvovirus? It is a highly contagious DNA virus that can cause severe illness in puppies and unvaccinated dogs of all ages.

What are the symptoms to look for? Loss of appetite, vomiting, severe diarrhea, lethargy (lack of energy), abdominal pain and bloating, and a fever (or low body temperature - hypothermia).

What is the treatment? First, you should get your dog to the vet immediately and keep your dog away from any other dogs in the home. At the vet, the treatment may include hospitalization and intravenous fluids. Here at 1st Pet, we are thankful to have the canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody (a single dose intravenous injection) treatment which has shown to be very effective towards fighting the virus.

If you believe your dog may have parvovirus, please call your vet and seek treatment immediately.

Today we bid a heartfelt farewell to our beloved Dr. Moentk as she retires. 🌟

Dr. Moentk's dedication to her work and endless volunteer efforts have made a significant impact. From traveling to Honduras several times providing free veterinary care to those in need, to running the Street Dog Coalition in the southeast metro area of Phoenix that provides free veterinary care/vaccines for homeless people's pets, she has always been a beacon of compassion. She has a special place in her heart for special needs dogs and has owned many. She was Fear Free before it was a thing, and her kind and respectful nature has touched us all. She treats every patient as her own.

Known as the "please & thank you Dr.," Dr. Moentk's kindness extends to both patients and team members. She has the most beautiful handwriting, especially for a left-handed doctor! 🐾 A master speller, we never needed a dictionary or Google with her around. Her mom was always called "St. Ann" because she was such a saint. The apple did not fall far from the tree. Dr. Moentk is a saint—she will do anything to help. She loves coffee, just celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary with her husband Graham, and has made an indelible mark on all of our hearts.

Join us in celebrating her incredible career and wishing her a joyful retirement! 🎉💖

Mesa - Angel Torres joined us 13 years ago in our emergency dept. Over the years, he has progressed from a veterinary assistant to a technician, since July 2015, he has excelled as our inventory manager. His willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need is one of his many remarkable qualities. He is incredibly handy, often taking on repairs. Additionally, he is bilingual, speaking Spanish, which has been invaluable in assisting countless clients over his13 years with us. He has graciously taken calls to translate on his days off and after shifts, & has even come in to fix equipment like our washer. His dedication goes beyond his primary duties. Angel, you are a core staple of our team, & we are incredibly proud to have you with us. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, & support!

Chandler - Vanessa Sellers joined our team in May 2023. Before joining she has had many years of veterinary experience, including experience as a technician & in leadership. She is part of our Celebration Committee. She has helped a lot recently when coverage is needed, she has volunteered to stay late or come in on her days off. She always comes to work with a positive attitude & is willing to learn any skill that is thrown her direction. Even at 4am! Right now, it’s medical math & fluid additives and she is excelling in both! She always has some idea for improvement around the hospital & will never hold back from advocating for her patients & clients. We all appreciate the hard work from Vanessa & love having her as a team member.

North Valley - Veronica Duffield joined our team May 2023 as a social worker, she consistently demonstrates all of our core values here at 1st Pet. She shows an exceptional level of compassion, engagement, professionalism, & trustworthiness. Her dedication to supporting our clients, our team and her unwavering commitment to our well-being have made a significant impact on our community. Her empathetic approach & tireless work ethic inspire those around her, & her ability to build trust with both clients and colleagues alike is truly commendable. We are proud to have Veronica as part of our team and deeply appreciate her outstanding contributions.
