💥📣UPDATE:
Hello all! Apologies for the lack of activity on this page, unfortunately I am currently taking a break from breeding. I may continue later next year but for now I’m focusing on my lovies’ health over anything else.
Earlier this year Mulch had an eggbinding scare, resulting in her undergoing surgery. Turns out from the x-ray’s she has a dip in the bottom of her spine which can make it hard on her to lay. We have decided the best and safest route would be to have her on hormone blockers to prevent laying. So Mulch (shown in picture below), although very healthy and recovered well, is now retired from breeding as a whole.
She is doing so well, we were very scared as she dropped 20g in weight and was on a cocktail of medication; close to losing her but she’s a fighter! She continues on monthly injections.
I did also lose Moose a few months earlier due to seizures, it was very traumatic and unfortunately we could not get her to the vet in time. We believe this may have been a genetic issue but we sadly lost her; it was a very sudden, unexpected, tragic loss and she was my favourite in the flock (just don’t tell my other birds!). I did raise Moose from 3 weeks old, she really did hold a special place in my heart so it truly has been difficult even considering getting anymore birds.
I do still have Moose & Sprouts last 2 chicks (brother & sister), they are moulted and matured. Unfortunately they’re not tame, I’ve been working with them and they’ve come a long way but they’re definitely not handraised. I am considering keeping them unless I can find a great home whose willing to work with them patiently or a nice big aviary. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to PM!
Sprout (Moose’s partner) is also doing very well. He is still alone, I was considering getting him a new partner but he seems to be doing very well so far - he isn’t entirely alone as he can still chat with the rest of the flock but he no longer has anyone to cuddle & preen. He gets lots of attention from me also, plenty of flight time too, so he’s doing quite well. Whether or not I get him a breeding partner or just another male, I’m not sure.
Nonetheless, I may post occasional bird pictures and updates but there isn’t likely to be any new chicks for a few months.
Thanks all! Enjoy this cheeky pic! 🥰
