Working on turning. They got a lot better shortly after this but it is hard to film all the time and divide myself filming between both girls! Oh well, they get what they pay for as far as a videographer. 🤣

Working on the Barrel Push. We had made this for last years obstacle course practice and thought it might be fun to use it again. McEntire wasn't keen on it, but after a few go arounds, he was pretty okay. He's so short he doesn't really push the poles! But his butt hits the back one and that helps him keep pace with Pyper.

14/08/2024

Although this seems such a small task, this is HUGE for Gabby and Mayo. Mayo has kicked a farrier and a vet tech when messing with this particular leg. Gabby has not been allowed to work those back feet because of the dangers behind it. However, Mayo is finally at the point where he is better. He isn't perfect but improved so much that it was time for her to cautiously but successfully pick up those back feet!

Who Does McEntire like to hang with? McEntire likes to hang with people more than anyone. He tolerates everything else. We have chickens, goats, big horses, little horses, deer, wildlife, but he prefers us. He is probably the most independent horse we have ever had. He is good by himself. When his mate of the last several years left, I worried about him, but he was fine.

Who does McEntire NOT like? I cannot think of a single thing or object that he does not like. He was curious about the goats, okay with the chickens. He doesn't spook often. He just wants to be loved.

Catching in the field was a challenge with McEntire. Pyper is an expert at it, but needs practice with that buckle!! When we first picked up McEntire, his previous owner just knew he was going to be impossible catching him and I suspect she had tried for a while before we arrived. She had sighed, went to get some treats, all the while Pyper and Gabby caught him within minutes. To say the previous owner was impressed was an understatement! He is MUCH better now.

The beginnings of the side pass. Pyper and McEntire were better at squaring up on the pole, however McEntire didn't really get the side pass concept so it's going to take some time. I mean, he's like "Why in the world do I need to learn this?"

While at Gabby had her riding lesson, and Pyper waited for hers, she groomed a super muddy McEntire. This is her cleaning his hooves! He was happy to have a buffet while she did it!

No, I'm not in timeout. I'm a very patient good boy escorting my person to her riding lesson. In a minute, I will get some nice green grass to munch on because I'm such a good boy. Pyper gave me lots of love too!

Well the video pretty much explains what we are working on ! Proud of Mr. McEntire. Once he gets what you are asking him, he is pretty willing. Love him!

The Bluebonnet Horse Expo & Rescue Horse Training Challenge just about 2 1/2 months away - can you believe it?

For those who don't know about the Expo & Training Challenge, it is a one-day event on October 5th in Taylor, Texas that attracts horse lovers from all over Texas - and from several other states. There are presentations from equine professionals, vendors, tack for sale, a saddle auction, kids' stick horse show, horses for adoption, and the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge.

- We are looking for sponsors. Sponsorships start at just $25 and have varying benefits. You can learn about the sponsorship levels and sign up at http://www.bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors
- If you don't need sponsorship benefits, you could donate. Donations are tax deductible since we're a nonprofit and help put on the event. Donate at https://bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/donate/
- Become a vendor. Vendor spaces are just $75 and are located in the climate controlled vendor area right past the entrance - we funnel everyone through the vendor area before they hit the rest of the Expo! We welcome horse/farm/ranch/western-themed art-work, jewelry, home décor as well as tack and equipment. Please no MLM or political booths.
We also take donations of tack, saddles, and horse equipment and would love a horse trailer to auction off again this year! You can contact [email protected] if you have items to donate.

If you want to see the differences between these two sisters, go and watch Gabby work with Mayo on the same task. Pyper is, let's just say, more confident in getting the job done. Is she right, no, not really. However, her method worked. Did we talk about a more sensitive way of doing this...absolutely. Did McEntire get over his fears of boogers easier - yep. So in the end it worked out but we also worked on slowing down just a tad. Love these two (McEntire and Pyper) though...they are quite funny to watch together. Might as well be related.

McEntire rather be anywhere but under that parachute. However, he did pretty good with Pyper. Pyper took it slow and with a little convincing, she was able to completely cover him! What a cutie

18/07/2024

Mr McEntire was very skittish when we first started our desensitization training. But unilke Mayo, he is quicker to realize that most things aren't boogers. It took a moment, but Pyper was able to get him through the curtain. I was proud of them, because neither horse was realliy "into" this fun stuff.

Today was a little about desensitization, although, to be honest, it was't supposed to be. Part of McEntire's costume came yesterday and we needed to see if it was going to work. I am not posting pictures of the costume, because we want it to be a surprise. McEntire is such a laid back soul, so the girls figured he wouldn't care about it. We were all so wrong. For the first time ever, McEntire acted like a horse!! After a lot of rubbing, sniffing, more rubbing, he finally calmed down and allowed the costume to be put on! Who knew?! This picture was from later in the day. He has never been introduced to the goats and that was another form of desensitization that we had not planned for, but was very helpful!

Pyper really likes trotting McEntire as he tends to be faster than her previous horse, Roni. It's surprising McEntire's age because he does have s***k. These two are a matched pair because they both lose focus often. Many days Pyper tries to get McEntire to follow her cues. He is such a laid back personality, he doesn't always listen and Pyper is THE EXACT SAME WAY. So, I am posting a lot of them doing the same thing because Pyper needs to connect with McEntire on the lead changes and commands. She's trying.

14/07/2024

Pyper has a bad tendency to keep her lead rope too long and therefore doesn't allow McEntire to fully understand what she wants. McEntire is a sweetie though and he has been adapting to her way as they learn each other. It's a lot of repetition, but slowly they will get in sync with eachother!

13/07/2024

McEntire was not impressed, even added a yawn at the end. "Come on kid, get it right" This wasn't the first Go...LOL

Hello, My name is McEntire. When I was younger, I was adopted from Bluebonnet and stayed in a very nice home for many years. So many years in fact, that they lost count of my age because they thought I was 16 years old when they gave me up. He is 22 years old according to Bluebonnet's records. Regardless of age, I am spry and s***ky. I have so much love to give. I like people more than I like other horses. I would love to be a pocket pet. I am tiny, so I can go anywhere a big dog can go. I love to be groomed, I love to be hugged. I am good with kids, dogs, people, and by myself. I just want to be loved.

My name is Pyper Davis. I am 6 years old. This is my 2nd year competing in the Bluebonnet Training Challenge. I love my horse McEntire, he is the best in the whole wide world. Last year, I had Roni, and he was really great too. I like the challenge because I got so much candy last year and a neat jar too! I love horses and stuffies. My favorite Stuffie and a pop-it horse, that my sister Gabby stole. McEntire is like a giant Stuffie. I love him.

27/06/2024

"You've been there, done that" was the Farriers words today. Pyper did well holding him as this little man stood for his pedicure. Guys, if you are are looking for a horse that's a dog, that you would like to load up in the back of your mini van to go whereever - this boy is it! He just wants to be with people and loved. He probably would like to move into your house, maybe sleep in your bed. He likes long naps, and mashed up food. Who needs a man when you've got everything you need right here!

27/06/2024

McEntire is an old guy and much prefers being behind. He is such a sweetie, he just wants to follow! But Pyper has been trying to get him to go with her. At least she is able to get him in a trot more on cue.

We had a lot of work on the farm this past weekend due to the storms that blew through. The girl's occupied themselves while we cut a large tree off the goat shed and chicken coop & had a huge fire going. My mom got worried because the girls had disappeared and were quiet. Never a good thing. This is how we found them....you gotta love the farm life.

03/06/2024

Don't think that because of all his cuteness, he doesn't have to work too! I love this video, stay to the end and see Pyper's expression! That's a proud girl!

Pyper is our resident cuddler and every pet is subjected to it. Some tolerate it and some love it. McEntire not only loved it, but embraced it. I am sure Pyper is trying to figure out a way to sneak him into her room with all her other stuffies. He is as close to a stuffy as I have ever seen!

One of the most favorite things Pyper likes to do is ride around on her four wheeler. I always let them ride outside the pony pasture because it helps with the horses understanding the energy that will be working with them. MacIntyre doesn't spook. He is good with everything. Literally everything. He is good by himself, with other horses, he is s***ky when he needs to be, calm when he needs to be. He was so tough to catch at the beginning, but now, he looks forward to hanging out with his new trainer, Pyper.

Do you want to know who is the bestest boy in the whole wide world? MacIntyre! He is the MOST "go with it" horse I have ever met. He is older, most likely in his 20's, but don't let that fool you, this dude has s***k and he is paired with the most s***ky girl (although she looks grumpy here, she is just taking a rest, & like Calvin and Hobbs, she doesn't like pictures! LOL
