The Zippo/Bailey pups are heading out over the next week! The big chunky lug of the litter is Sarge. He was chosen by Christina Gates to either be a service dog for a veteran or a facility therapy dog. He’s super chill and sweet!

It’s hard watching them leave, but knowing they’re going into such a great program really helps.

Six weeks old and full of chunky confidence! This is post playing and baths so they’re sleepy babies🥰

Our friends at Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training took this video of one of our current pups. They evaluate in a few days to pick their pup(s). The stud dog owner will also be evaluating the litter for show prospects (sire’s info is in the comments). This is possibly the cutest litter we’ve had here to date!

So proud of Kiki Baran for stepping outside her comfort zone and getting Ash into scent detection! He’s got generations of detection dogs in his pedigree so he killed it, and hopefully Kiki is hooked on this incredibly fun and rewarding sport. Way to go Team Ash!!!

"The results suggested that … g***d retention during the first 24 months of life—are strongly associated with lifelong avoidance of bilateral CCL rupture…Risk for CCL rupture was not influenced when g***d removal took place after the 24-month developmental period."

CCL injuries are one of the most common causes of pain and arthritis in dogs. Today at 12pm ET we're discussing how to prevent injury and available CCL treatment options.

The Zippo/Bailey pups will be six weeks old on Sunday and evaluated for conformation show prospects on that day.

This black beauty is staying here because of her confidence, sass and swagger. I love her!

Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training will be evaluating the pups the following Sunday for their pick(s). There’s another black female that is super confident and a bit of a handful and I’d love to see her in a working home!

There are three yellow males and I anticipate one going to Top Notch and one suited to a pet home.

The entire litter is beautiful and they’re a blast to watch right now.

The puppies are really eating well and are super chunky! Three weeks from today the stud owner will stack them and look at their structure to see if there are any show prospects. In the meantime I’ve disinfected the puppy interactive entertainment area and they will start exploring it this weekend

09/10/2023

We are getting some new additions to our program and we need your help! Some of our schools or families are a bit far to get their dog in training on the weekends. That's where you come in. We are looking for reliable families to help us with our Weekend puppy hosting program. If you'd like to help us out and you would like more information we can't wait to hear from you.

Email: [email protected]
In the Subject line put: Host family interest.
We will be having an informational meeting very soon.

The Zippo/Bailey puppies are a week old! We are loving their chunky thick little heads. Mom is feeding them well, they’re fat little buggers🥰.

Welcome Gunner! We are really enjoying his sassitude. The world revolves around him, just ask him😁.

We whelped out his mother a couple of years ago and loved her so much we wanted a pup out of her. Here he is!

The Bailey/Zippo puppies arrived today strong and healthy. Four black females, three yellow males and one yellow female. Bailey is a great first time mom. We are very excited to see how they develop. Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training gets their pick of two pups!

I can hardly wait for it to be announced where little Orla will be working as a facility therapy dog! Christina Gates of Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training watched this litter closely and had her eye on Orla early for this organization. Looks like she knew what she was doing!

Orla is rocking her exposure sessions at her future location! Elevator rides…..No problem for this girl.

The week prior they were a little scary. This time she walked right in like she owned that elevator! Go Little Rock star!

Oh the excitement knowing where she’s head but not being able to share quite yet.😬🔥

Bailey is a beautiful lab with a wonderful pedigree of working dogs. I fell in love with her brother when he boarded here and right now he’s getting his duck retriever titles. When the opportunity to lease Bailey came up I couldn’t say no!

The litter sire, Zippo, has his GCH in conformation and is working towards his bronze. He is simultaneously working towards his Working Certificate through the Labrador Retriever Club of America.

Pups will be sold on limited registration per the stud owner’s request until all health clearances are done and have passing scores/grades. X-rays show seven little spines so 7-8 pups expected.

We anticipate conformation show quality pups in this litter but won’t know how many until the stud owner evaluates them at six weeks old. Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training gets first pick of 2 pups at day 49 so after that we will know what’s available to homes. This has the potential to be a tri colored litter.

This is why I love when Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training buys my pups for their programs. Training starts immediately and isn’t a couple of sessions a day, it’s every interaction they have with the pup so good behavior is normal.

Look at that Little Rock star! Little Waylon is only 9 weeks old is already learning to sit at thresholds and waiting for permission to exit the door. This could one day save his little labrador life!

So how did we accomplish this? Taking the time to stop at each door and wait for him to sit as soon as he sits we say break and open the door.

Notice we said we waited for him to sit. We didn’t say to tell him to sit. At first we capture the behaviors we want and once we love it we will name it. Puppies sit naturally so when our puppies sit they get pets, little pieces of kibble and this is how they are rewarded so pretty soon they offer sits as soon as they see legs. We will right away start saying our release word because we can predict that they are going to move pretty quickly when our legs move so when we are ready we will say break and move our legs.

At first with the babies it super quick we will add in more time and more distractions as they grow.

Top Notch Service Dogs and Dog Training does a phenomenal job with the puppies! We are always thrilled when they buy pups from us because we know that they’re taught skills that will make them awesome dogs.

What do you see here?

This is Quinn she’s training to be a Diabetic Alert Dog. She practicing a skill that will help her in her future. How to be calm in all situations, how to not have to be the center of attention in all situations. This is a skill that is not only great for service dogs but also pet dogs as well. We are finding more and more dogs do not know how to just chill especially when there is a ton going on around them.

Quinn is at a gathering. She is on a leash and her host Mom is sitting on her leash. To accomplish the state that Quinn has achieved the first time often takes longer, but each time they get better and better at it.

Attach the leash to your puppy or dog.
Grab a book or whatever you choice of entertainment is.
Set aside 30 -60 minutes to work on this
Put the leash on your chair
Sit on the leash
Ignore your puppy or dog no talking, no saying off if they jump up grab the leash and move them off of you.
NO TALKING - oh did we already say that! Yes no talking to your dog at all no commands nothing!
30 minutes of relaxing starts once your dog lays down.

Do this daily and you will soon have a puppy or dog that lays quietly by you and can settle when needed.

Happy training.
