Hi everyone, just a thumbs up to remind everyone about vaccinations. Please remember that the kennel cough vaccine is ‘live’.
That means that there is a risk that dogs can pass the bacteria on to other dogs through contact with shared surfaces or relieving themselves and other dogs sniffing the area afterwards.

If you know your groom is coming up please allow 3 weeks clear AFTER the vaccine is given before your dog comes to me. Better still, wait to have the vaccine until your dog has been groomed.

As you can understand, I cannot take any dogs inside this time period as it would be a contamination risk for my other furry clients.

…It’s that time of year again when the burrs, grass seeds and sticky buds go crazy.

Already I’m finding pesky grass seeds in the folds between dog’s pads causing little knots to form with both longer and short coated dogs.

It really is worth regularly checking deep between you dog ‘s toes and pads and also ears.

Grass seeds are like little ‘arrow heads’, they push forward with movement and have ‘spurs’ which prevent them from moving backwards. They can work into the skin and ‘travel’ into the foot, leg or ear canal.

You’re not alone, as you can see below, my dirtiest I groom client is my own dog!
I’ve spent about 3 hours already this week trying to remove burrs from my own spaniel’s ears, legs and tail (which is now looking very ‘thin’🙁).

If you too struggle with seed heads the best way of removing them is using a good conditioner.
My dog has to be shampooed, to get out the stinky mud she loves so much, then lathered in conditioner. Once I’ve carefully massaged in the conditioner, the burrs can gradually be pulled out with fingers or sometimes eased out with a gentle rinse.

Hope this helps Katherine

Hi everyone.
I’m going to have a bit of a long post here but keep reading😂

This initially is a notification that I will be increasing my prices from 1st September.

Having just returned from a well deserved holiday, I took the opportunity to look back over the past year and found that I am needing to work more and more ‘6 day weeks’ to meet my grooming specific overheads and to have a reasonable profit left over.

I do not want to compromise the type of grooming service that I offer but I also need to avoid burning myself out.

As most of you are aware, I specifically set up my business to offer clients that invaluable commodity of ‘time’.
From your wonderful reviews I can see that this is important to many of you too. Time working with you to find the best way forward for your dog’s groom, and time that I give to each individual dog to help make the grooming experience less daunting is really key for me.

I realise too, that my ‘pick up’ service can be a lifeline for some of my customers as well as being really convenient for others. Unfortunately, from a business perspective, it represents a lot of unpaid time and expensive travel costs and needs modifying in order to continue.
All booked appointments will be honoured, but from January I will have to be strict with my original intention of the Newark boundary. There will be no longer be a service to Fernwood or distances over 6 miles totalled return trips.

I am also going to reduce Saturday appointments so may have to reduce the total number of appointments I can offer going forward.

If you no longer wish to continue with Teacher’s Pet please can you let me know so I can rearrange my timetable accordingly.

For those who wish to stay, thank you for all your support over the 4 years I have been trading and your positivity for the job I do.

Katherine

It’s taken a while, but little Rascal is slowly becoming more relaxed about his groom. He’s gone from a 2/10 to 7/10 on the ‘worry’ scale, it’s always lovely to see an improvement and a happier fur baby ❤️.

This is so the life of a cocker spaniel owner. When you tell me your dogs are dirty, this is what I’m expecting😂

Hi everyone.

Sometime in the next couple of weeks my street is going to be completely resurfaced.

This means that it will be shut to traffic and have large, noisy and smelly machinery around from 7am!

Since I won’t be able to park near my house on those days, I am wondering whether some of my more nervous doggies may have a problem with walking down the street in all the hubbub?

I know that I offer a collection only service but, if possible on these days, could I ask clients to walk their dogs down my street to reduce any upset to them?

In addition, the road closure will also mean that it will take me longer to get to and from my car and I fear that it will have a knock on effect to appointment timings on those clients I will still need to pick up.

As yet I do not know exactly when the works will start but I will try and text individually the people that are involved when I know more.

Thanks for your patience, as you can imagine this is going to cause some disruption for a lot of people in the area and bring up problems I may not be aware of yet.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. 😳
