Flora Friday! 💜 Golden dewdrop! I’ve always mistaken this plant for a lilac for obvious reasons! This beauty loves full sun and well draining soils, and can get to 15 feet tall! Our’s is just that! It is HUGE, and started blooming early June but really took off the third week due to the heat wave. It’s gorgeous.

Flora Friday! Mexican Bird of Paradise 🐦‍🔥, nicknamed the Peacock Flower 🦚. This ornamental shrub is native to northern Mexico and thrives on little water in hardiness zones 9-10, making it a great xeriscaping addition. The bright red and yellow flowers are striking against the shrub’s ferny foliage, blooming from late spring until fall. Ours started blooming this week!

Flora Friday!! 🤍 California cudweed, more commonly known as California Everlasting. Have you ever wondered why your pup smells like a yummy pancake breakfast 🥞 after a romp thru a SoCal meadow? This is why!! It gives off the sweet scent of maple syrup with hints of lemon. The gorgeous wildflower blooms from summer to fall in hardiness zones 9-11. We have them on our hillside just below our top arena.

Flora Friday! African Cape Daisy 🌼 These beautiful little perennial flowers love full sun in hardiness zones 9-11. While not considered invasive, they can certainly fill garden spaces! This is one of my favorite flowering plants we have out here.

A peak into what horse teeth floating looks like! All our horses had oral examinations yesterday. Two of the three required a float. Horses are hypsodont, meaning their teeth continue to grow throughout their lives, much like a rodent. They can grind down their teeth naturally while eating but can create sharp edges that can be painful. A vet can file those sharp edges down for relief. This process is something that can be done yearly or every couple of years, depending upon the horse.
