Great dog training is based upon a good relationship and environments where our dogs are confident!

Always manage the environment, because it is one of the biggest if not the only factor that dictates your dog’s view and in turn it’s behaviour.

On a sidenote, .the.alusky is looking suave as ever. 😏

Little steps in the right direction! Every day out is a chance for our dogs to become more confident. This is only doable when we become great at walking with our dogs!

Great pet owners prioritise how their dogs see the world.

We take our dogs out for walks to allow them chances to grow comfortable being in the environment they live in. The more enrichment they get the better. Always make dog walks about the dogs and not getting from A to B in X amount of time.

Just our opinion 🐕🙃

Our trainers have attended the overseas NePoPo course.

The primary focus of this class is the pure concept of negative reinforcement followed up by positive reinforcements. The original syllabus engages the use of electric collars in low to negligible levels to simulate a tapping feeling which to the dog feels non-aversive. This results in the behaviour being stronger and performed faster while still maintaining a good emotional state.

Despite this teaching, we at DDK9 strictly do not condone the use of electric collars on any dogs. We instead utilize in depth, the scientific learning theories learned through the NePoPo course, enabling us to modify and improve dog training without the use of electric collars regardless of the levels used. From low to negligible levels that will cause tapping effect(negative reinforcement) high levels that will shock the dog(positive punishment).

Using mainly positive reinforcements with the assistance of negative punishments allows us to achieve a balanced training program which provides a clearer picture for the dogs to learn.

In the instance where the dog does not exhibit the desired behaviour when the food is shown, we keep the food (negative punishment), allowing the dog a chance to correct its behaviour in order to be rewarded.

Once the dog exhibits the desired behaviour, it is immediately given vocal cue(marker) to signal end of a correct repetition, followed by movement releasing it from said behaviour(positive reinforcement) and getting food(positive reinforcement) in the end.

Ultimately there are many different training methods to get a dog to perform/stop a behaviour. They are the "tools" we carry and it is important to know the correct tools to use in the most humane way as possible.

Dogs are lives. Don't get one if you are not fully committed to devoting the time, resources, and love required to take care of them.

Hundreds of puppies that were bought during lockdown are being resold online or taken to rescue centres. A survey carried out by The Kennel Club last year found that the ongoing pandemic had led to a surge in puppy ownership. Two thirds of those surveyed described their new pup as a ‘lifeline’ d...

People unable to read their dog's body language might unintentionally put their dog into such stressful situations. It is important for owners to properly train their dog using scientific learning theories to avoid unnecessary stress, and understand more about their dog. If their view remains unchanged, their dog may develop a negative association with people and dogs, leading to potential issues, including aggression.

Enzo Ng, our trainer, had a passion for dogs since young. However, he was taught positive punishment as the go to method for training when he trained his first dog.

"I was taught many different types of positive punishment which I found hurtful to my dog and started to look for better alternatives.

Thankfully, I was introduced to positive reinforcement training. I immediately applied it and saw drastic results. I have since developed an unbreakable bond with my husky, Ferrari, and he truly has become my best friend.

I hope to help as many dog owners as possible train their pet in the right way and build the desired connection of loving partnership with their dog, rather than dominance and fear."

Many do not fully understand dog behavior and emotion, and as science teaches us new discoveries, we have to adjust and advance our training methods accordingly. It is sad that due to this, a three year old life has been euthanized. Let us know what would you do if you were in this situation.

SINGAPORE: A couple who euthanised their dog for apparent aggression did not fail in their duty of care or commit animal cruelty, while the ...
