🐰We are cutting down numbers and offering nice meat stock for very good prices. One pair of *good quailty* meat rabbits can provide up to 224 lbs of meat in one year. Trio can provide up to 448 lbs.
Our stock are hitting 5lbs consistently by 9 -10 weeks. Some earlier. Our meat pen at the fair this last week had a 5lb 8 week old!

These two are trying to hatch the same nest. Five days in! Considering moving the Buff to her own kennel with most of the nest and then wait to see if the black hen stays dedicated. She was hatched in February of this year.

“Peep” Update

It IS possible to raise chicks without a light. A light isn’t always possible to have and there are definite safety concerns.
Earlier I posted about our single chick “Peep”. Peep was raised for the first three weeks next to the wood stove. We tried to keep a fairly consistent temperature, but evenings still dropped down into the 60s. Peep still trucked along. Earlier than normal, Peep feathered up and has moved outside.
The original plan was for Peep to live with the chicks from the last hatch, but Peep had plans of her own. The big chickens were more favorable. Peep has integrated into the big coop wonderfully and free ranges during the day with the rest. Our hens have hatched a few over the years and perhaps it helps them be accepting of such a small one in with them. They all seem to watch over our special Peep.

Renata’s litter is now three weeks old. Both magpies turned out to be does and will be staying here in the magpie program. Now they need names. 🐰

Meet “Peep”. Peep was the one and only chick to hatch in our last round of incubation. We are hopefully adding a few friends from the area that are about the same age. 
In the meantime, Peep went through the coffee drive through and toured the countryside with us on the way home. A warm box next to the wood stove and lots of attention from the kiddos makes for a happy and noisy chick!

Building fence day turned into three new inches of snow and trying to dig and cement in the wet downpour.
Wet gloves and campfires. Smores and smiles. The day will still be okay. We will still get the fence built. We will still make memories. 💕

Our first hatch of the year has moved out into the “teenager” pen. They will spend several weeks next to the big chickens to get used to each other.
The next hatch is Tuesday!
