NOTICE: We have PAW-SOME news! Today is Tundra’s moving day! 🐺🐾

Our male Arctic wolf is being moved out of his current enclosure in the inner zoo. Following a planned veterinary procedure, he will be moved into the brand new wolf habitat later today!

However, the area around the new wolf habitat will be closed to public access while Tundra is introduced to his new home. After he has adjusted to the new space, the female wolves - Anuri and Aspen - will slowly be introduced to both Tundra and the new habitat. We will keep the area closed to the public for the next few weeks during the introductions to give the wolves and zoo staff privacy during this transition. The public will be notified when the area has reopened.
Thank you for your understanding!

Brrr! Due to the extreme cold, the Edmonton Valley Zoo will be closed today, Sunday, January 19th. ❄️

We’d like to assure you that all of our animals are doing well during this cold snap. For many of the animals at the , the cold weather is not a problem at all! Species like the lynx, reindeer, Arctic wolf, and Siberian tiger enjoy the colder weather. Our animal care team carefully monitors animal behavior during extreme weather. All outdoor animals have adequate shelter, bedding, and heat, while those who can’t be outdoors in the winter moved indoors back in the fall.

Stay warm, and we hope to see you soon! 🧣🐾

Well this is awkward… we missed by just a feather! 🫣 Our newest intern, Chutter, is still trying to figure out what a keyboard even is. Turns out typing is a little tricky when you’ve got talons and no idea what letters are. 🦉💻

Our Story

As part of the Valley Zoo Revitalization Project, the current Story Land portion of the Zoo will be replaced with “Nature’s Wild Back Yard”. This new area will be a place where the zoo’s youngest guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal to experience the delight of watching, interacting and bonding with animals. Focused on learning through play, Nature’s Wild Backyard will feature a make-believe veterinary hospital and underground tunnels that will allow guests to come face to face with Prairie dogs and Meerkats in their natural underground habitat. Along with a traditional petting zoo, Nature’s Wild Backyard will also feature other fun and fascinating animals including lemurs and red pandas. The zoo has started the revitalization project with Phase I: a new Arctic Shores Exhibit that is currently under construction and Phase II: a new Entry Way and Wander that will begin construction this year. Nature’s Wild Back Yard will be Phase III of the revitalization and the Valley Zoo Development Society has committed to raising $8 million for this Phase of construction that is likely to cost over $30 million dollars. The newly revitalized zoo will be a world-class facility and a leader in education and conservation... but we can’t get there without your help.
