What started out as another ordinary race over a sloppy track at Golden Gate Fields in February 1989, ended in rather extraordinary fashion. As the horses neared the wire, a filly named Sweetwater Oak came flying up on the outside of the leader but stumbled badly, flipping her rider, Nate Hubbard, out of the saddle in the process. With a field full of steam behind him, one could only imagine the potential disaster that awaited the young rider as soon as he hit the ground. Desperate, Hubbard grabbed the filly’s neck and managed to hang on until crossing the finish line in second place. Because his feet never touched the ground, the result was upheld by stewards. To her credit, the filly barely skipped a beat.

On the morning of 6 April, 1932, Australians tuned into their radios to hear the shocking news that national icon Phar Lap had died in mysterious circumstances in the United States.

Born in New Zealand in 1926, the champion thoroughbred came from humble origins.

Bought for just 160 guineas at auction,
Phar Lap was generally regarded as too big and ungainly for racing success.

He was shipped to Australia in 1928 where he was leased by an unknown trainer by the name of Harry Telford.

Despite these disadvantages, Phar Lap surprised the nation by dominating the Australian racing industry.

He played the role of hero to Australians struggling with the effects of the
Great Depression, winning 37 of 51 races he entered, including a Melbourne Cup and two Cox Plates

PHOTO - Phar Lap’s mounted hide was moved from its display at the National Museum of Victoria to a Melbourne Cup exhibition in 1958.

The importance on breeding happy healthy horses who are sound in body and mind cannot be demonstrated more then with my wonderful Serena. Luckily for me she was too small for Guy Roberson and as a rising 3yr old came to me. She has luckily never known abuse or neglect started for me by Guy who knew this little lady would still be here and a mother of two fantastic foals.

I hope she loves her life as much as we all love her.

Today was her first day back to riding and a tidy up no need to lunge for hours I can just tack her up and go yes only 10mins at walk some flexing and all done but after 2yrs off her top line and riding muscles will be very weak so just a bit of light work for now. She is now being a lawn mower round the yard enjoying log grass and no noodles!

Right boys and girls thinking caps on please. I want to do some fund raising for Cambridge not just to fund our research but to help them find funds for others too so I've thought of maybe doing a photo show and maybe in the summer a fun day. Maybe some of u might like to walk the Derbyshire 3peaks with our dogs? Looking for ideas.

I'm going to start posting the appeal from Cambridge direct there must be some companies out there that would donate especially ones involved in canine health we cannot afford to lose another fantastic facility for canine health and research.

Please use them for your DNA testing the money goes back in to research. I'm not going to do a rant about what has happened with the KC I will supply facts and you can make up your own minds Xx

wearing a bespoke bridle I made.
I was just messing about trying to get a pic to send his owners at so show them and when I've looked back on them to send I sort of fell in love with this photo and the accidental effect I managed to achieve this has no editing it's a raw picture taken on my iPhone 14!

Not long now and this little bit of kit will be back in use 🙈😆 **tstrap

What a difference 3 days can make. Pudding arrived Thursday presenting symptoms of folliculitis after a good hot ragging and a couple of days being groomed properly the results are clear.

Thank you to michaela at Equisign Tack and Feed for the product recommendations and knowledge sharing, I've been calling this rain scold for ever! Oops but I tend to refer to it as s**t spots as its caused by dirty rugs, wet horses and lack of decent care. I have seen this mainly in RoRs when they come out of training in a few weeks she will look even better xx

Forage acts as a central heating system for horses as the fermentation process by hindgut microbes generates heat. Ad-lib forage is essential during the colder months to make sure your veteran is kept warm from the inside out. 🐴 🌡

Omg I was screaming at her ffs let go of its head and stop ragging him in the gob. I know I ride English but the concept is the same if schooled correctly you should be able to ride with no hands. Look how relaxed the SJ is for a quiet rider.

This is an interesting article.

Most horses do not need to be dewormed as frequently as previously thought. It makes more sense to tailor the program to each horse...
