Sol is an amazing kitty and looking for an amazing human to adopt him!

Sol’s name means Sun in Spanish and this fits him. Sol loves to sunbathe (indoors)! Also, he has the most striking long dark orange hair with beautiful sunny blonde highlights.

Sol has overcome a lot in his young life. We told you about him back in June/July as he was undergoing treatment for a severe wound on his wrist. It was thought that Sol would need his front leg amputated due to an extremely advanced infection that went untreated when Sol was a homeless kitty.

Thankfully, Sol had a dedicated and caring veterinarian and foster families who helped him heal. The healing took a long time which is difficult for anyone but especially a kitten. Sol learned to take medication that he didn’t like but he seemed to sense that the medication was needed to heal and improve.

Sol also knew when he needed to rest completely and when to begin moving around and putting weight on his leg. As he progressed he was able to play with other young kitties and he was very good about being a fun play partner without over exerting.

Now Sol loves to run! He has a very tall scratcher that he runs up and proudly sits on the top. From there he jumps to his cat tree. He looks so happy and proud of himself, it’s a wonderful sight.

Sol will likely always have a limp and he needs to continue developing his social skills with humans. He is not a fan of being picked up or petted. His foster mom pets him when giving him a treat and when Sol is eating so his willingness to trust improves every day.

Sol is looking for an extraordinary person with patience and love to share with an exciting new family member. Sol is worth the patience and love. Sol is busting to let his inner love bug out.

He would be best in a home with another friendly, young cat (he loves other cats). He will do best in a less active home.

Meet Grandpa Zeus

This handsome fellow was a community cat wandering a neighborhood with no clear owner. Most neighbors believed he was feral. Some people left out food for him. But no one bothered to give him a home or get him neutered and vaccinated.

Why did we name him Grandpa? Well, there are at least 25 cats in the neighborhood we are helping. We believe he is the father, grandfather, or uncle to many of those cats. It only takes 2 kitties left unaltered to quickly create a overpopulation of unwanted cats and kittens.

So far we have trapped and helped 12 cats in this community at a cost of $2,900. Some were feral and returned to the location after they were fixed. Some are friendly and in our foster care program. Several have been sick or injured requiring medical care.

Grandpa Zeus’s turn to be trapped was this past week. We were able to lure him in the trap with yummy food. He was neutered, vaccinated, and treated for parasites.

We quickly realized he was not feral. He is a lovable boy who is happy to be inside and is enjoying a nice soft bed.

He is now looking for a permanent, loving family to give him an indoor home.

Will he miss outdoor life?? NO!
💦No more searching for food or water
🤬No more people yelling at him to “go away”
🏎No more cars whizzing by
🥷No more fights over territory
❄️No more freezing in winter
🦟No more fleas, ticks, mosquitoes
😻No more lonely life.

If you would like to adopt Grandpa Zeus - please visit our website to apply.

If you have cats roaming your community please help them by getting them fixed. Feeding them and leaving them unaltered is not the answer. If you feed them fix them. Our friends at SAFE Haven for Cats have lots of advice on Trap-Neuter-Release and they loan out traps.

Happy Adoption News!

We are happy to share the news of three more adoptions.

Archie (now Ziggy) has a happy home with a kitty sister Gemini. Archie was a tiny kitten when he arrived in June from Wayne County Animal Services.

Ghost was also from Wayne County Animal Services. Her foster family instantly fell in love with her so she has been home all along.

Max was from Robeson County Animal Shelter. He is an outgoing and happy boy who loves dogs! He was adopted into a home with a dog and 2 Guinea pigs. He is settling in and we are so happy he’s found a great home.

In early July we told you about Lucki. He is a little kitten in our foster care program undergoing treatment for FIP. FIP is a nasty virus and used to be a death sentence, but now there is help and a cure for this horrible disease.

The treatment takes 12 weeks (84 days) and we are on day 58. He has been a true warrior during this process and just a loving kitten even though he had to go through 38 days of painful injections.

He has a check up next week and we are hoping for positive results from his bloodwork. He still has some neurological symptoms that may be permanent (wobbly gait) but his miraculous recovery from high fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, and weight loss is just amazing.

We need your help to cover his medical costs. If you are able to contribute towards Lucki's medical care today, we would be grateful, every bit helps and even a small donation adds up! So far his medical care is $3,400.

Facebook does not charge a processing fee, so 100% of donation through Facebook will go towards his care.

If you prefer, we have other methods to donate that can be found on our website.

🍁Fall in love with fostering cats or kittens 🍁 We need you!!

Now that the busy Summer season is behind us, it is a great time to foster a cat or kitten who has been waiting at the shelter for their turn to leave. Many of our NC county shelters are still in need of help to free up space in the shelter. By fostering a kitty you can be the bridge to a loving home.

When you foster a cat or kitten you provide a temporary home, love and socialization, food and medical care. You will have a mentor to help you and medical costs and food are provided.

**We are located in North Raleigh - proximity to North Raleigh is beneficial but not required.

Blossom could not be cuter if she tried. 🌻 She is ready to find a loving home.

She enjoys chatting and tell you all about her day. She is happy and outgoing. At about 5 months old she still has a little more growing to do. She is very tiny for her age at only about 3 lbs. She loves all kind of toys and would do great with another cat to play with.

If you would like to adopt Blossom. Please submit an application on our website.

🎉Adoption News🎉

We had several kitties find homes here in the Raleigh area.

Cleo was a stray kitten wandering all alone and now she is happily living a safe, secure, indoor life.

Stevie was born to a feral mom but now has a place to call her own with a cat and dogs siblings to keep her company. She was the last litter for her mom who is now spayed and was returned to a managed cat colony.

Maggie was in the Sampson County Shelter with her 4 kittens. She is all done being a mom and living a carefree life in Apex, NC.

🐾🥳🙌 Nugget hit 3lbs! We are delighted and pleased to share that Nugget is doing great. She has been in foster care for 10 weeks and is finally thriving. She had a checkup with Dr. Jennifer yesterday (8/23/22) at Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield and got a clean bill of health.

She is a good weight for her size (she may always be a smaller cat), she is well hydrated, there are no signs of congenital abnormalities, and no lingering effects from the severe malnutrition she suffered as a neo-natal kitten. We are so thankful for the well wishes, monetary, and product donations sent to help Nugget. The baby food came in handy to help supplement her diet (to add calories) and she just loved getting some toys. The yellow ducky is her absolute favorite!

Her recovery would not have been possible without the dedication and perseverance of her foster mom. Nugget was the frailest, however, she came to us with 6 siblings who were also sick. Their foster mom did a heroic job of treating them for infection, malnutrition, parasites and coccidia. Nugget would not have survived in the county shelter and having a foster mom to look after her and her siblings was critical to their survival.

We are also thankful we were able to raise the money necessary to cover her medical costs. We would like to once again thank CUDDLY for providing a fundraising platform to help small rescues like us raise money. We are thankful for our Cuddly campaign consultant – Samantha Bermudez who is creative and always positive, and all our supporters for your continued generosity!

We work with amazing and talented people who help animals in their journey. We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Pilots To The Rescue on several cat transport missions in the last 2 years. Yesterday they were highlighted on Today Show and we are thrilled for them!!

“Pilots to the Rescue” is a network of trained volunteer pilots who fly around the country saving animals facing euthanasia and finding them new homes. NBC’s Joe Fryer reports for TODAY.

We love getting updates from adopters!

Tinker was surrendered to Wayne County Animal Services on Jan 10, 2022 by her owners. We were able to take her from the shelter and into our foster program on Feb 10. Shortly thereafter she traveled to New Hampshire and this beauty was quickly adopted. We recently heard from her family and received some great photos of her enjoying her new life. She deserved this chance to be cherished and loved.

We don't know much about her life before she ended up at the shelter, her owner said they had "too many animals" and could not keep her. Now she is the princess of her home and we could not be happier.

Thank you to our partners in New England, our foster families and adopters who help give our Carolina Cats a happy new beginning.

Her new family shared this update with us:

"Just sending an update on how Belle (AKA Tinker) is doing since we adopted her in February. She continues to be the absolute love of me and my partner's lives. She has a clean bill of health still from the vet, and lives a happy life of leisure. She enjoys bird watching on her window perch, prefers cardboard boxes to any fancy cat beds we get, loves playing with her many toys, snuggling up with us for movies, and supervising me while I work from home. I can't express how certain we feel that she chose us, and how lucky we are she did. She is the highlight of our day, and I'm sure our friends and family are exasperated by the amount of photos of her we send. But we are so proud of her and we appreciate every moment. We can not thank you enough for making it possible to have her in our little family. "

Cleo just might be the purr-fect kitten and she is available for adoption! Here is how her foster family describes her....

"Cleo has the best kitty personality we've ever encountered, more like a dog cat. She is equal parts playful and loving. She plays with kids or adults with any toy - cat tower, balls, wands, rolled balls of paper. She purrs loudly and seeks out attention and laps. "

We have a warrior in our foster program - an FIP Warrior and he is in the fight of his life. Lucki (who is a sibling of Nugget) started exhibiting signs of FIP after his first distemper vaccine.

His head began to shake and his walk became strange — like he was taking high steps. He developed a 105 degree fever that would not break. He stopped eating. Was lethargic and could barely lift his head. He was losing weight even though we were syringe feeding him.

After many tests ruling out other possible causes, the only viable diagnosis was Neuro FIP.

FIP used to be a death sentence but with the help of a group of dedicated mentors and a support group FIP can now be cured.

We are on this journey and will support Lucki for the 12 weeks of treatment and 12 weeks of post treatment observation. Please send Lucki good vibes and happy thoughts as he continues his treatment.

If your kitty is ever in a medical situation where your vet mention FIP (even as a slight possibility) please reach out to FIP Warriors® 5.0 for more info on how to find help.

We have been quiet for a week or so - very busy with saving cats and kittens, finding good homes, arranging transports, and helping little ones thrive.

We have to stop a moment though and congratulate three happy kitties who were recently adopted here in the Raleigh area.

Sarah is 8 years old and came from Wayne County Animal Shelter. Her new mom adores her and she gets to live with a kitty brother who is about her age.

Snickers is a silly and loving little boy who was at Sampson County Animal Shelter. His foster family fell in love and he is a keeper! He also has a kitty sibling in his new home to keep him company.

Allie is as pretty as she is affectionate. She also came from Sampson county. Her new mom said she is settling in and we are so happy for her.

Wishing them all long, happy, and love filled lives.

⭐️Foster Home Needed for Sol ⭐️

Sol was a community cat we helped after a severe injury. He is on the mend after 30 days of wound care and antibiotics however he is not putting full weight on his leg and needs just a little more time to heal.

Sol is about 11 months old. He is litter-box trained, he has tested negative for Felv/FIV and had his rabies vaccines. He will be neutered once our vet lets us know he is healthy enough for the procedure.

Sol is nervous in new environments but does warn up when he feels safe. He would do best in a quiet home where he can have a separate area to call his own while he continues to heal. Our main goal is keeping his pain level low so he starts walking more on his leg.

He currently gets pain medication mixed in with his food twice a day. Other than that there isn’t any other medical care needed at the moment.

He is unable to stay in his current foster home as they were only given temporary approval by their landlord to help Sol. They are not allowed pets at their rental.

More info about being a kitty foster parent can be found on our website.

29/06/2022

Two weeks have passed in Sol’s recovery from a painful infection in his wrist. He saw the talented and lovely Dr Jennifer for a checkup and while the wound is better there is still substantial swelling in his wrist and signs of bone infection.

Because he is young there are growth plates in his wrist that are affected. So we have to continue antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication longer. Sol is a trooper though, he takes his antibiotics like a champ and is an excellent patient.

We are just shy of raising the $750 we need to cover his costs. If you would like to donate we have Venmo and PayPal or you can donate directly through Facebook. We are only $100 away from our goal. Just a few people donating $5 to $10 is all we need.

Thank you to everyone who cares for this little cat - your well wishes mean a lot. He is loved and will no longer suffer the life of being an unowned cat.

Gorgeous Allie is ready for her forever home. As she grows we think she will have a very fluffy tail!

Her foster mom describes her as “very sweet and friendly.”

She wants to give you lovins more than play. She is super affectionate with great purrs and a lot of class! She is gorgeous with her markings and hair length. Her activities include sitting in the cat tree and watch the wildlife out the window. She excels at watching CatTV, she is very attentive to it.

She would likely do fine with other pets in the household if slowly introduced.

Happy

We have happy news of little Nugget. She (yes Nugget is a girl!) saw Dr Jennifer at Companion Animal Hospital of Wakefield for a check in and she had some testing done and so far all tests are normal. She does have coccidia which is shocking since she has already been treated twice.

Dr Jennifer is hoping it was just severe malnutrition but once she is older and we can draw more blood she will be tested for hyperthyroidism and Porto liver shunt. Dr Jennifer is optimistic that she is gaining weight so that is great news. She was 11.2 oz at the vet. Check out her before and after photo. In the before her legs were rubbery and now she is standing tall and playing. Thank you for all the well wishes.

Nugget is slowly gaining weight. He just hit the 9 oz mark (up from 6.2 oz). This weekend he got to enjoy some vitamin D time while stretching his legs to run around a bit on the deck. Even though Smurf is not his true sibling he is a much better size for a playmate. We are hoping to get him into the vet soon to see if there is anything more we can do to help him grow big and strong.

Why in 2022 we are still using animals for testing is beyond comprehension. Thank you to our friends at Atlanta Humane Society for saving these very deserving pets.

URGENT: These 27 beagles were just transferred to us by HSUS after being relinquished from a facility that breeds animals for animal testing.

Right now, these beagles need your support. They were born and living in confined, unsanitary spaces likely with little socialization from humans, and their care will be expensive and extensive. Our Shelter Medicine and Behavior Teams are at the ready to help provide these dogs with the resources they need.

Our focus is on caring for these animals and preparing them to find their loving new homes. We do not know when they’ll be ready for those new homes, but you can sign up for breed-specific alerts at atlantahumane.org/petalert to be notified when beagles become available for adoption. We do adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis and do not place holds or pre-accept applications. If you are interested in adopting one of these dogs, you’ll need to sign up for pet alerts and keep an eye on our website.

Thank you in advance for your support. These beagles appreciate you. ❤️

Nugget was playing with his siblings this morning. What a happy way to start the day. Seeing this tiny survivor feeling a little better means the world to us.

Today his weight is 7 oz. Most of his siblings are at 1 lb. His largest sibling weighs 1 lb 3 oz. That is a huge difference.

Nugget loves Gerber’s beef baby food and chicken baby food. We mix it with KMR to supplement his feedings. His mama is nursing 7 kittens so we want to make sure they all get a little extra.

Thank you for caring about Nugget and sending well wishes. It means a lot to us that you care about this little tiny one.

If you would like to send some food for his care - he mostly needs Gerber’s Beef baby food and Gerber’s Chicken baby food. His siblings are eating Royal Canin Mom & Babycat wet and dry.

DURHAM COUNTY! Let's help our friends at Best Friends Animal Society and ask the Durham County Board of Commissioners to approve the community cat ordinance. If approved, this ordinance will help the community implement lifesaving trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) programs.

Rescuers cannot keep up with the flood of kittens that arrive every spring and summer. We need county government to implement measures like TNVR to decrease the number of unwanted kittens born each year.

The Durham County Commission will soon vote on a lifesaving community cat ordinance. If approved, this ordinance will help the community implement lifesaving (and nuisance-reducing) trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (TNVR) programs.
