Happy Willow! 🥳 We are celebrating your happily ever after and here is what her family has to say about their sweet girl….

“She loves the sun and being warm and will sit outside all day if it’s nice out. She loves when we play with her lamb chop (the first toy we bought her oà) by throwing it, racing her to it and letting her beat us, then chasing her while she runs with it in her mouth. She has learned and grown so much in the year that she has been a part of our family. Watching her learn to trust and love us has been so rewarding. She is an absolute joy — a curious, stubborn, tough, sweet natured, intelligent, totally neurodivergent lil baby who fits in beautifully with us. Everyone who meets her loves her and she has fans across the city. She is an absolute star in daycare at .pdx , beloved by dog and human alike. She steals the show wherever she goes with her gentle and sweet demeanor and, let’s be honest, her cute little face. Now that we’ve moved out of our little apartment and have a house with a yard for her, she’s really begun to understand that this is her turf and we are her family. I’m so happy with how far she’s come and so excited to see what the future brings.”

Happy Banzo! We are celebrating your happily ever after today! Here is what his family has to say about their sweet boy…. “We adopted Banzo from the in December of 2023. He is a former street dog from Guadalajara and somehow was up for adoption for months without any applications until us! He was found as a puppy and is now about a year and a half old. From the moment he arrived, we were best friends He has adjusted so well and gotten great at walking on leash which is something he had never done before. I work part time at a doggy daycare and I love that Banzo gets to come to work with me! He really loves playing there with his doggy friends. He’s also great around cats and overall just the best little guy ever! He is my emotional support animal and I love him so much. Banzo loves going on walks every day, snuggling with me and napping, and playing and doing enrichment puzzles. His favorite vegetable is carrots, he is obsessed with them! He’s a smart little guy and so far he knows “sit” and “wait” and I am hoping to teach him some more commands soon.”

We are looking for a local (Lakeside area - Chapala, Mexico) furever home for sweet Maybelle!

Interested in adopting her, if so, please message: Angela Adams at The MexiMutt Project.

NAME: Maybelle

AGE: 8 years old (estimated by our veterinarian based on her teeth).

WEIGHT: 8 lbs / 4 kg

BREED: Poodle mix (This is our best guess, we don’t know for sure).

DOGS: Yes, she can live with other calm dogs.

CATS: No, she doesn’t like cats.

CRATE: No, she does not like to be in the crate/cage.

WALKS: No, she does not like to be leashed for walks.

HOUSEBROKEN: Yes, she is housebroken but you will need to accompany her outside in the yard, because she wants to be near you at all times.

ABOUT/HISTORY: Maybelle was rescued on December 11, 2023 running across a busy highway in Guadalajara. Maybelle is sociable and friendly; she gets along well with both dogs and people. One of her favorite things is cuddling in bed with her foster mom. Maybelle's ideal home would be one where her human(s) aren’t away for extended periods of time, as she adores being close to her people and will follow you around the house. She is a little Velcro dog and will make a lovely companion.

CURRENT MEDICAL ISSUES: Maybelle is currently receiving eye drops to treat an ulcer in her right eye and is under the veterinary care of Dr. Marcos at Can & Cats in Chapala.

COMPLETED VETTING:
Vaccinated
Sterilized
Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia/Anaplasma Blood Parasite Test
Parvo/Giardia/Canine Coronavirus Test
CBC (Complete Blood Count) bloodwork
Dental/Teeth Cleaning
Urine Analysis
Current on flea/tick/heartworm treatment with SimparicaTRIO (a pill that is good for 30 days)

Please share and help Barry find his furever family! He is located in Portland, Oregon!

Barry
4 years old
18 pounds
Poodle
Neutered
Microchipped
Up to date on all vaccines
Cats: no cats
Other dogs: Yes, but best with mellow calm females.
Kids: over 10 years old

Barry is a lovely, albeit complex little guy. He rarely barks, he is relaxed in the car, he is very smart and very food motivated, he has a moderate energy level and is happy to nap much of the day, but definitely enjoys long walks and is good on leash, he doesn’t destroy things or mark in the house when left alone, fireworks and thunder are not a problem, he can be silly and makes us laugh a lot.

Foster home needed in the Portland/Salem/Vancouver area - Barry flew to Portland from Guadalajara (where he was rescued off the streets in bad shape) and went into a foster to adopt home in Portland, but unfortunately after 10 months Barry is not a good fit due to his distrust with the man in the house, so we are now looking for a female only home for Barry!

Barry
4 years old
18 pounds
Poodle
Neutered
Microchipped
Up to date on all vaccines

Barry is a lovely, albeit complex little guy. I’ll start with his awesome qualities: he rarely barks, he is relaxed in the car, he is very smart and very food motivated, he has a moderate energy level and is happy to nap much of the day, but definitely enjoys long walks and is good on leash, he doesn’t destroy things or mark in the house when left alone, fireworks and thunder are not a problem, he can be silly and makes us laugh a lot.

Barry’s challenges: Barry does not trust strangers, and has fear issues with men – he would need a female-only household, and will take time to warm up to new people. He has boundaries around being touched and his trust can be earned by respecting them.

Barry’s ideal caregiver would be someone who is patient and gentle, preferably with experience with a more challenging dog, and knowledge of dog boundaries, body language and trauma.

Barry would do best as the only pet in the house with no young kids.

Meet Abba! 🐾 This grey-eyed beauty with elegant long legs and floppy ears is our dog of the week.✨

With her unique looks we were dying to find out what her genetic makeup would be.. and lo and behold—she came out to be 100% American Village Dog!

“American Village Dog” is not a single breed per se but rather a wide group of free-ranging dogs indigenous to the American continent. Having said that, they are quite rare, making up less than 1% of dogs tested on Embark!😲

They go by many names (“satos” in Puerto Rico, “potcakes” in the Bahamas) and have a diverse range of appearances, but one thing that they share in common is their incredibly sociable and friendly nature. 💕And this is certainly true for Abba who, according to her foster, is affectionate, loving and gets along with everyone (cats, kids, dogs, you name it).

Stay tuned this week to find out more about this special gal!

ADOPT ME - Calling all dog lovers!!! PLEASE SHARE - We are desperate to find Vicky an adopter! She is not happy in foster care with 12 other dogs and it’s taking a toll on us all. Vicky has been with us for over 6 months. She is about 2.5 years old and 9 Ibs. She does not shed! We aren’t sure of her breed, a Yorkie Mix. She is very independent. No separation anxiety. No medical issues. Loves to go on walks. She loves her toys and antler chews. She can be left home alone and is not destructive. She is crate trained. She is a very easy, loving, cuddly, companion dog. She currently lives with 12 other dogs in foster care and can coexist with them, but does NOT love having the dogs in her space (although she does have a favorite BFF in foster). She would be happiest as the only dog. No cats - she will chase them. She is wonderful with people (kids over 7 years old please). If you want to adopt Vicky, please apply online at www.bapbr.org - Vicky has an opportunity to fly to Portland on January 13th, if we can find her a home, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

👋🏼 Hi, I’m Casper! I’m no ghost, but I sure am friendly! I am blind, but brave, and I like to face the world head on! Because of that, I run into everything with full force, so I need my halo in new areas to help keep me safe.

💙 I LOVE humans! All humans, little and big. I have a big personality and want to be the center of attention and included in all family activities. I love hearing people talk and I don’t want to be in a quiet home, especially alone. I love to play with my toys, go for walks, jump on and off the couch, dance, and get belly scratches. Because I was likely born blind, I don’t know life any different so I feel like a regular pup! I know where I’m supposed to go potty and I sure know when it’s dinner time! I can get startled when I am touched and I don’t expect it so I would prefer to be around kids who are old enough to understand my condition. Once we understand each other, we will be best friends!

🐾 I think I’d do fine in a home as an only dog or with another dog that shows me patience and grace when I run into them. Most importantly, life is a party, and I want to be part of the party! Let me show you my dance moves! 🕺🏼🥳

Casper is not a MexiMutt but we would love to help him find his forever home! He available for adoption through Salem Dogs. Adoption fee $250. For more info, contact Lisa Burton

Celebrating the incredible journeys of our furry friends! 🌟 Over the past few months, we've witnessed some heartwarming adoptions in Portland. Three special pups, who patiently waited for their forever homes, now have their own tales of joy.

Sol, a cherished member of our foster family, found her furever family after a year-long wait in September. In October, Pippa, who spent two years in foster care, happily joined her forever family. And then there's Bella, a resilient soul who roamed the streets for five years before finding her loving home.

A round of applause for other lucky pups—Pelos, Sonia, Merlina, Dulce, Baxter, Miley, Faye, Frankie, Lady Blue, Rafa, Destiny, Becky, Sassy, & Jolena! 🎉 Thanks to our incredible adopters, dreams of a forever home are coming true for deserving street dogs. Your support means the world to us! ❤️

A big shoutout to our amazing community! 🙌 Your support for “Diego’s Den” has been pawsitively incredible! You've shown up in a big way to assist a local independent rescuer, and we're beyond grateful! Thanks to your kindness, we've made some PAW-some upgrades for the dogs and Diego.

Our next goal is to fence off another dog area for the small/medium dogs and have a quarantine kennel/cage. Right now it’s all one big dog area, but we need a safe place for new rescued dogs and a space for dogs that are dog intolerant or dog selective.

Here is what we’ve done so far over the past 2 months (Thanks to YOUR donations and support and to our amazing project manager, Marilyn):

✔️10 bags of dog food bought for the 14 dogs on the property (some dogs have been adopted in the past months - YAY)
✔️He now has a bathroom sink and toilet with running water
✔️A small tile countertop in the the kitchen
✔️New bed, bedding, rugs, curtains for Diego’s room - a HUGE thank you to our anonymous donor who made this happen for Diego!
✔️Pallets to keep the dog houses off of the ground and out of the water(when it rains).
✔️New fencing cross dividing the front and back of the property.
✔️A safe and working front gate has been installed to access the dog yard.
✔️The open dog “barn” area is now paneled on two sides to breve the rain and wind from getting on the dogs.
✔️The main front gate to the property has been fixed so that we have easier access to the property and the animals.
✔️We bought Diego a wheelbarrow and a w**d eater to help keep the property clean for the dogs.
✔️New water pipe has been run from the street to the house with a working faucet for easier access to water for the dogs and Diego (he did not have running water on the property until now).
✔️Three new dog houses, and red gravel was spread all over the property has been used to prevent the mud from overtaking the property.
✔️A microwave was donated
✔️We bought him a coffee maker, 2 plastic dining room chairs, a fan, and screens for the windows to keep the flys out
✔️A dresser was donated along with some shelving units and misc fencing/building material - Thank you Patty and Tamara!
✔️Lots of cleaning supplies, concrete for fencing posts and much household items need (like a trash can and trash bags, towels, mop, etc) - Thank you MexiMutt Donors!

Happy KiKi (FKA “Tessa” in the MexiMutt Foster Program)! Kiki was rescued off the streets of Guadalajara. She was found super skinny with matted fur and infested with fleas and ticks. KiKi was adopted in October 2022. Her family reports…. “Kiki is playful, she loves playing with the pups. She loves sitting on people laps. She also loves to beg for food but only at my grandma lol she’s a mamas girl. She gets to go on RV trips and loves that too. She gets my grandpa out every day for a walk. She also enjoys watching Mochi the tortoise as a pass time.”

🎉 Big Shoutout to our amazing donors for Amazon Prime Day in July! 🎁 Thanks to your generosity, we hit the jackpot and got our hands on those much-needed DNA tests we've been longing for. A special mention goes out to Heather, Renee, and Ana for their thoughtful donations from our wishlist in July. Your support means the world to us! 🙌🛍️

While we're over the moon with the incredible goodies we received, there's still one more thing we're in dire need of: harnesses for our foster dogs and a pull wagon for adoption days. 🐕 We've bumped this to the top of our wishlist to make it super easy for anyone willing to lend a helping hand. ADOPT ME 🐾 Introducing “River”, the Star Pet of the Week! 🌟 Looking for a special home and some extra love! 💕

Hey everyone, I'm River, and I've got an important story to share. At just 1.5 years old, I've experienced some ups and downs in my life. I've been moved around the shelter three times, and all I'm seeking now is some stability and a forever home. 🏡

Due to my past, I have a few trust issues, but that doesn't mean I can't form amazing bonds with the right humans. I thrive in a quiet environment with minimal foot traffic, ideally with a cozy fenced backyard to explore. 🌳

One thing's for sure, I'm a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs! 🐶 If you have a fur sibling, I'm confident we'll become best pals in no time. Oh, and did I mention I absolutely adore car rides? 🚗 Once I feel safe and secure with you, I'm all up for delightful walks and cuddle sessions throughout the day! 🥰

I'm searching for a home where I won't be left alone for extended hours every day. While I don't suffer from separation anxiety, I thrive with human companionship. So, if you're looking for a furry companion to share your life's adventures, I might just be the one! Apply online at www.BAPBR.org to make me a part of your family. My foster mom, Lisa, can provide all the inside scoop on me! 📝

Let's embark on this beautiful journey together and create a loving home for me, River! 🌈💙

Over at DANVet Clinic, Dr. Nancy and her team are leading the way in our street dog sterilization program. 🐕‍🦺 With their support, we've successfully sterilized over 2,000 animals in the past 3 years! 🙏 Their commitment to this crucial initiative is making a real difference in the lives of countless animals. 4 lucky MexiMutt pups received their adoption freedom flight to Portland last night! 🥳 One special girl, Chia had been with us since April (see the last photo for her before and after). 🤩 A huge thank you to our adopters for trusting us and for giving these deserving pups a beautiful new beginning! 🙏 And a special thank you to our flight es**rt volunteer (and past MexiMutt adopter) Maureen—for making sure these 4 pups landed safely in Oregon.

Happy Marco and Gonzo! 💕 (Both MexiMutt Alumni)

“Good morning Angela, It’s been awhile and we hope things are going good in Mexico.  Mom & Dad take us to the nursing home on Sunday afternoons to visit a family member and it has turned into a big deal when we visit. Those folks all like to hold us and give us scratches & cuddles. Not to mention occasional treats. (mom limits them because of tummy issues) we’ve been doing this a few weeks now and it’s so much fun!! We’ve met so many people but our favorite is Aunt MaryLou.  Mom just wanted to share some of yesterday’s pictures with you.  Thank you Angela for helping us and so many others find homes!! We love life in Oregon & we love you too. ♥️🐾♥️🐾  From Marco & Gonzalo (Gonzo)

Marco has learned a few more tricks and loves his walks. He is the best medicine ever for my husband & our family. Gonzo is a treasure. He loves to cuddle and have a warm body to snuggle with. He adores my brother in law so sometimes he spends the night with him then he gets one on one attention instead of sharing with Marco & 2 cats. He doesn’t like leash but he rides in the stroller then we let them run in the field before we walk home. Marco walks a bit then rides with Gonzo. They are such blessings. My brother in law is alone and Gonzo brings so much love to his life. These 2 dogs are the best thing to happen in a long time. They really make others happy at the nursing home and they seem to really enjoy it themselves. Anyway I talk too much. ♥️🐾♥️🐾 Love & gratitude from the Naegeli family.”

Will you be our Petfinder Pro? We are in need a long term volunteer to help us run our Petfinder page. It’s a very important role, as 95% of our adoptions come from our Petfinder page!

The time commitment is about 5-10 hours a week but we need a fast 24 hour turn around to get the dogs listed asap.

We are looking for a 12 month commitment.

If you can help us, please email our director, Angela at: [email protected]

Happy Finn!
“Finn (formerly named Capri) was adopted in February, and is now living an adventurous life in PDX!
Finn is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle and meet all the people. This beautiful girl is also so brave, smart, curious, independent, silly, and playful. Finn is always sure to pay her respects to the resident senior cat, in hopes of being his friend. She is an outdoors gal who loves to go camping, run around, and play catch. When she isn’t accompanied by her best human friend, she entertains herself by throwing her toys in the air and chewing on her toys - followed by a well-deserved nap. Finn is always last to get out of bed, she insists on rolling around and growling for a bit before starting her day. On walks, she likes to pick up leaves, sticks, or pine cones to carry around and show to everyone. Watch out: anything blowing in the wind - you’re a target!

Finn goes everywhere with her adopter, even all the way to Alaska! She says, “MexiMutt made the adoption process super easy and Finn adjusted within a matter of weeks. She wasn’t sure of the loud cars and city noises, and was shy around people and dogs at first, but quickly learned that she was safe with me. Thanks for bringing her into my life! She brings me so much joy :)”

On to more adventures Miss Finn!

Happy Gordo! Gordo was rescued living outside with minimal care with 8 other dogs in Mexico prior to being adopted by his new amazing family. Here is what his family has to say about sweet Gordo boy….

“I think August 5th is technically 6 months, but I wanted to give you an update on Gordo!

He is settling in pretty well around here, with his big brother, Obi, and our busy lifestyle. Gordo has met all of neighbors and neighborhood dogs. We regularly take walks through the park close to our house, although he still doesn’t quite understand why he needs a leash because he never leaves our side (lol).

We took a trip to the Washington coast in May. We think this was his first time seeing the beach, because he didn’t quite understand sand/the ocean. He got in the water with zero fear! He also got to experience camping in a tent this last holiday weekend in the Gifford Pinchot Forest.

Gordo has random bursts of energy, but is the best nap and snuggle buddy. He’s always calm and hardly makes noise unless he is sleeping. He’s bonded with his big brother so much that they won’t come inside without each other. He is the perfect dog for our little family and we are so thankful you helped him find his way to us! ~Brigitte and Ryan”

Happy Chato! Chato was rescued living outside on a chain in Chapala, Mexico prior to being adopted by his new amazing family. 💖

“When Chato (aka Cheeto Burrito, and sometimes affectionately our little Chupacabra) first arrived he was absolutely dumbfounded and elated by our grass and carpeted floors. After spending the first night tentatively cozied up beside his new mom, he spent his next few days army crawling and rolling around the carpets and in the grass with utter glee. He fell right in with his new siblings like he had been a part of the pack all along and learned our routines and rules very quickly, as well as some fun party tricks to show off to guests. His joyful and enthusiastic character, paired with not knowing household etiquette left him not knowing coffee tables were not part of the furniture he was allowed to jump or stand on!
We’d never had to train for that one before! It was a hilarious conundrum for us all! His favorite indoor spot is still on the back of our loveseat watching the outside world through our living room window while making a myriad of hilarious and decidedly otherworldly little “chupacabra” noises. This kid cracks us up daily with his grunts and squeaks and rolled R sounds. He’s also loved adventure days to the parks, mountains, and coast with us, as well as neighborhood walks, and evening zoomies in the backyard with his pals. We are so grateful to The MexiMutt Project for finding and saving this wonderful boy. Our family is richer with him in our lives and we can’t imagine life without him!”

At the core of our organization lies a strong commitment to giving back to our community. Through our various community support programs, we strive to make a positive impact by offering free sterilization, free food, free flea/tick meds, and even Christmas presents to children in rural villages. We are here to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever we can!

Recently, we received a special request for assistance from an independent rescuer near the base of Mt. Garcia in Jocotepec. Meet Diego, the compassionate soul behind "Diego's Den." On his small piece of land, he cares for around 18 dogs in a tiny house without plumbing or electricity. As the rainy season approaches in Mexico, we want to step in and sponsor this shelter for the next six months. Our goal is to provide fencing for the dogs and offer them shelter from the rain. We also aim to improve the overall condition of the property, ensuring the dogs' basic needs are met. This includes purchasing kibble and water monthly, covering vaccinations, sterilizations, and more. The estimated cost for these efforts is $500 USD per month or $3,000 USD for 6 months.

Your support is vital in continuing our life-saving work! By making a tax-deductible donation, you can help us bring lasting change to Diego's Den. Here's how you can contribute: (Please indicate "DIEGO'S DEN" in the note.)
