The Buddy Project
Buddy, also known as “Can’t Catch a Break Buddy,” is an amazing dog with a heart of gold and the never ending love and trust for humans although he has been let down time and time again. The true testament of his resilience. He found himself at a shelter during Hurricane Harvey and when out-of-state rescue groups came to pull dogs to free up space, Buddy was one of about 20 dogs left( of course, we have no idea why). Through a short chain of events, he landed with a “rescue” who promised to help him find his forever home. This “rescue” had him for almost 2 years where he was mostly crated and sedated because well, he did not like to live in a crate, so he was a bit anxious. All he wanted was to be with people-he loves adults and absolutely adores children, and of course, other doggy friends! After almost 2 years, he thought he found his forever home by a staff member of the rescue, but after only a few months, he was BACK AT A SHELTER on New Year’s Eve! What a terrible way to end the year! Once it was discovered that he was back at a shelter, several Buddy supporters began working hard to come up with a plan to get him out and then... he was having a great time playing with other dogs in playgroup, jumped for joy off the picnic table, and landed wrong on his leg and tore his ACL!!! Seriously, Buddy Can’t Catch a Break! His supporters were determined to spring him from the shelter to get him the surgery he desperately needs so he can FINALLY find his forever home! A foster was found and Bed, Bath, and Biscuit boarding facility in Willis, Texas has graciously offered to board him at no cost while he heals from surgery and as we get him ready to find his people. A group of Buddy’s supporters pulled him from the shelter WITHOUT A RESCUE to back them, and have raised almost all of the $1800 needed for his surgery. His procedure was performed on 2/26 and he is now in the beginning of a five week recovery process that will include limited exercise, PT, and icing. We need your help to spread the word about “Can’t Catch a Break Buddy” so we can help him to FINALLY FIND A REAL HOME!
