PRESCRIPTION DIETS can be hard for pet parents! It feels like enrichment is limited when your ingredients are just down to one kibble!
Never fear, we are trying out some Savvy ways of bringing variety to your pet, regardless of their dietary needs.
The silicone snuffle mat is an excellent choice if you are looking to grind or rehydrate your kibble. Where other snuffle toys get grubby quickly, I found this one incredibly easy to clean and very versatile! 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Also excellent for fresh ingredients like meats yoghurt or fruit and veggies.
🍌🥦🍠🥩
Ernie, our senior Savvy product tester loved it, and all I did was use some smashed up kibble, some water, and a few whole biscuits for texture.
* Please note that this rewl is offering enrichment advice only. Please follow the dietary advice of a qualified veterinary nutritionist or your trusted veterinarian.

Licking is a soothing behaviour for our dogs, releasing oxytocin (a feel good neurochemical) and helping them relax. This is why we often see anxious pets licking their own paws or even items in your house! They are trying to self-sooth.
Lick mats can provide this same satisfaction and relief in an appropriate way. They promote calm behavior in dogs by giving them an activity that requires focus.
They can be used as a tool for distraction during grooming, nail trimming, or other stressful situations.
Additionally, they can also be used as a training tool to help pets settle on beds or in crates while supervised by their owners.
They can provide mental stimulation and enrichment, which can help reduce boredom and destructive behavior.
I love using lick mats at the end of an activity to help lower a dogs excitement levels and transition from active to calm. They can slow down fast eaters, are suitable for the freezer and are easy to clean too.
With humans around to monitor them, they can be given to dogs of all ages 🐶
We have a great selection available in our behaviour store right now! Why not try a new calming activity with your fur-baby 💕🐾
❤Winston loves when the @ziwi_australia haul comes in. He knows its time for some really fun training.❤
🔥Yesterday we were playing 'the floor is lava', targeting from one chair or bench to another.🔥
🐱I like to switch up my enrichment games with ground based activities and games for higher levels. After all our cats are built for tree climbing, branch balancing and wall walks so make sure they are getting that high-rise enrichment too!🐱
🌳Is your cat a ground dweller or a tree dweller? Have you thought about their favourite sleeping or look-out spots? The could give you some clues!🌳

Ready... steady... GO!
Mr Harlo is very concerned by other dogs and as a result his walks were often stressful for him as his threshold was constantly tested. When I first started walking with him, he wouldn't pee on walks, wouldn't take a treat and usually just trotted along side poking his nose ahead, ears pinned back, checking the path ahead.
With a lot of successful, managed and dynamic walks Harlo now not only pees and trains on his walks but also plays little games like Ready Steady... Go! I love watching him investigate his environment. We still have a way to go but he has come so far.
I am using a #ezydogaustralia 5m lead to offer him choice while on our walk. If he wants to sniff or run he has a bit of space to let me know and the leash can stay loose just as I like it. This is a great too for dogs who show discomfort on a walk... or any dog for that matter!
What do you do to keep your pooch happy on walks? 👇👇👇 I'd love to know!
🤗 Get over the Blues with some chews! 🤗 Did you know that chewing releases endorphins for our canine friends? 😯
Endorphins are neurotransmitters released by the brain that work in the nervous system to release pain and stress.😖
This means dogs actually feel naturally happier and more satisfied as a result of all that chomping. This can be a great help in the face of anxiety, boredom and recovery from injury or surgery. Plus your pups are often doing this instinctively to help themselves settle!🙏
So next time you spot your hound chowing down on something you would rather keep in one piece, don't just remove it- replace it! Give them something appropriate to continue with. And if you know they get stressed being apart from you, give them a safe chew to encourage some self settling 🦴
Don't take away their good vibes, just redirect them! 💖
Have you noticed when your dog chews?
What is their favourite thing to chew?

Obedience Vs. Co-Operation 🤔
If you are looking for a trainer to help you obtain the perfectly programmed pup, I am not your woman. Why not? Well, firstly I think there are a bunch of excellent obedience trainers out there who are far more suited to the work than I am. Secondly, rolling with my own experience and observations, I have to tell you humans, most of you don't want the perfect pet!
You love the cheeky, silly, sometimes sassy attitudes your little family members bring to your life every day. You enjoy the dynamics of their quirks and personalities. You love publicly embarrassing them as much as they do you too! You just want help negotiating those moments when you don't see eye to eye or the communication and routine have gone a bit awol.
That is where I wanted to focus my attention, on that human to animal connection that changes lives and builds families every day. The Savvy Pet Co. mission is to aid pets and owners in understanding each other's intelligence; finding the common ground and creating harmony. Overall, building lasting respect between the two.
We must realise that love is not conditional; they love you whole-heartedly and enthusiastically without a care for your inconsistency, laziness or emotion. Let's agree that the first step to long term success is not obedience but understanding and acceptance, especially for a lot of my clients who carry burdens of trauma, fear or confusion. Co-operation is a much better goal for our pet filled families than 'obedience'. It is emotional, expressive, fluid and most of all, enriching. It requires the owner to get inside the animals world as much as it asks for the pet to adjust to ours.
If you need help to find that point of co-operation, I am here. Reach out if you need. I love hearing from pet parents who just want to do better. That's exactly where I started years ago and there is always more to learn.
