We have been asked a few times now who the doggie is in the window, so we have put a little story together for you.

The story behind the face of the practice dog, Hank.

We got Hank from a farm in Bacup in 2016 when he was just 8 weeks old. He was the only boy in a litter of 8 Border collies, bless him.

We got Hank soon after losing our last collie Charlie due to old age. Hank was our little girl’s dog from the age of 5, they were un-separable doing everything together.

When our little girl was out with Hank, she would always make a point to everyone we met that he’s her dog which was so lovely to hear.

We always called Hank special in his own little way. He would do things like run too fast and fall over his ball instead of catching it in his mouth, we needed to buy him a life jacket because he could not swim. (Really what collie can’t swim)

When Hank was 2 years of age, he began having seizures which even in our profession it was very worrying to us as he was our special boy.

Hank then went on to have an MRI scan to see if there was anything obvious causing the seizures. The scan came back as clear, so he was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy.

Hank’s seizures were managed very well with medication over 4 years.

In December 2022 Hank decided he was going to throw the biggest seizure he could. He was having cluster seizures which was very difficult to control. Hank had all the treatment possible to stop him from seizuring but this was not working.

After hours of trying, we had one last attempt of wake Hank up from sedation in the hope the seizures would stop but as soon as he was awake, they started again.

The difficult decision was made to put our little boy to sleep to stop any more suffering.

This was heart breaking for us as he was such a big part of the family and very much loved, we woke him up from sedation one last time for us to say our goodbyes before he started to seizure again, during this time he lifted his little head up and kissed every one of us, still to this day it breaks our hearts we don’t have him with us in body but with having him with us every day as part of our practice makes it that little bit easier to deal with.

We always say if they have had a good life that’s all you can do, and we can defiantly say Hank had the best life possible. 💙🐶🌈

Having this little face as my first appointment of the day was great. Nola is a beautiful 6 month old Fox labrador that needed a little help on dealing with her excitement.

Another great review 🐶🩷 My job is amazing and this little face makes it all worth while. Jess is a lovely 6 month old pocket bully that I have recently started working. Being able to help owners when they are finding their feet with puppy training is so rewarding 🐶🐾

After having such a busy day on Friday seeing lots of doggo’s it was great finishing off the day with this little face. Lola is only 3 months old, Her Mummy and Daddy came to me as they needed a little guidance with puppy training, 🐶💖🐾

I couldn’t be any more proud of this little man and his owners.He came to us off the streets from a different country never had human interaction and very scared. Now look at him, off his lead and responding well to commands. He’s now coming to the end of his training and I’m over the moon with the amazing progress he has made as you can see in this video 💙🐶

Meet Bailey he’s a 7 year old Labrador cross that I have been working with for a few weeks now. He came to me having never been socialised with other dogs and was very difficult on and off a lead with a lot of corrective behaviour and training as you can see he’s doing very well. 🐶💙
