It’s been a little over 24 hours since we admitted three of our parvo puppies into the ER, and this morning, we admitted a fourth one - Isle. All four of our girls are still hospitalized and will not be able to come home until a least tomorrow. We are so thankful they’re in great hands with BluePearl Pet Hospital, but we are estimated about $4,000 for each puppy (see pictured estimate x4).

We cannot thank everyone who has donated enough for all that you’ve done. These puppies could’ve died one by one, but instead, the remaining 6 are hanging on and fighting, and have been given the best chance to survive due. The girls in the ER are not out of the woods yet, but not declining, so that’s a win. The two boys, Forrest and Tundra (pictured here), are doing really well for now. We finally made a concoction of high quality food and liquids that they are eating, which should help them improve more quickly.

While our boys are doing well, we are still worried about the girls. It’s a really difficult position to be in when we have to choose between giving them the best chance we can to survive or not getting in over our head financially. Your donations have been helping us tremendously. We still have to prepare for about $4k per each puppy that is hospitalized and we don’t have it yet. A late evening update for you all because I know everyone has been as anxious as we have been, especially after losing Coast. Our girls, River, Sea, and Ocean, are all currently admitted into Blue Pearl Emergency Vet in Mount Pleasant. River and Sea spent the day hospitalized with our regular vet and their white blood cells were bottoming out. Ocean was declining at home, so all three are now hospitalized in the ER.

We’re not out of the woods. We are racking up huge bills. But the money doesn’t matter right now. We will find a way.

I can’t help but picture their futures. I see them all in loving homes with families who tell their stories:

“My puppy almost died of parvo”.

A family who is so thankful that they didn’t, because of how much joy they bring to their life. I will keep holding on to that picture in my head and pray that it comes true for each of the remaining puppies.

Thank you all for rallying with us. For donating. For sharing. We will keep fighting and update you when we have more news to share.

Sweet baby boy Coast has peacefully passed over the rainbow bridge 🌈🤍.

We are devastated. We did the antibodies. We did the supportive care. He just couldn’t fight this deadly virus. We’re beating ourselves up wondering should we have done the medication sooner? Should we have not waited for symptoms to start? But we don’t have $7k to just “do it anyway even if they don’t have parvo”. Not to mention the unknowns of doing the antibodies on a dog who doesn’t actually have the virus.

We’re scrambling through all the scenarios, but truthfully there is nothing we could’ve done to save him. This virus is deadly. This virus is preventable. A mom and puppies shouldn’t be at that shelter, especially these who had a foster home through the shelter that ended up giving up on them and sent them back. We wish we could’ve taken them from that foster and never let these puppies step foot back in the shelter. We’ve now lost two lives because of it.

Two of our puppies are still hospitalized. Our regular vet closes at 2:00pm. We don’t know what to do after that. If those puppies crash, our only life saving option is admitting them into an ER, but it’s thousands of dollars per puppy. We are trying our hardest. Thank you for everyone who is rallying for them and fighting with us.

No donation is too small. Not even $1. 🙏

FLUFFY IS SAFE!!! Thank you so much to everyone who shared his post and to those who had boots on the ground helping us look for him! We have no idea how he did it but he found his way back to his temporary foster home and was sitting on the porch when they got back to the house. His paws were bloody from running so much which is why we saw bloody paw prints. Thankfully he is NOT injured! He has eaten dinner and had water and LOTS of love! And thanks to those who purchased AirTags off of our wishlist on cyber Monday, he is now rocking our very first rescue dog air tag!!!

We are SO thankful he’s not out in the cold temps tonight, and it’s safe to say everyone - including him - will be able to sleep better tonight 🙏

I didn’t think today could get any worse 😭😭😭. We have a missing foster dog. He is incredibly timid. It’s going to be below freezing tonight. We have spent hours driving and walking all through this area and haven’t had a sighting of him since noon. Fluffy’s collar was off due to his skin infection on his neck. I’m so sorry I have to ask for the community’s help once again today 😭 but if you can please help us share this post that would be greatly appreciated. We havent had a sighting since noon. Fluffy also came back to the foster home with bloody paw prints and we are terrified he is injured. Please share 😭💔

IF HE IS SEEN, DO NOT CHASE HIM! He will NOT come to you!!! CALL WITH SIGHTINGS ONLY!!

Here we go.

Sometimes you can hope and pray for the best, but still not get what you want. Our puppies who were exposed to parvo that we have been quarantining have been doing amazing since we got them from the shelter on Tuesday. We hoped and prayed we got them out quickly enough, but parvo can lay dormant in the system for 10 days, so we knew the possibility of them breaking with symptoms.

This morning, their pen was covered in diarrhea. Many of them were less interested in food, and one in particular was vomiting. We immediately got that puppy into the vet for a test to confirm. Coast is his name, and he tested positive for parvovirus.

Coast is now getting the best treatment he can. We are terrified because of what happened to Canyon, who received treatment but still passed. Our vet office only has a few vials of the parvo antibodies, so we are going to be taking in some of the other puppies who are showing more symptoms and hope that they can acquire more vials.

I know it was Giving Tuesday this week. Part of the reason I was so devastated for the timing of these puppies was because I knew we would have to fundraise for their care. I know so many of you just donated to us days ago. I hate asking again, but truthfully, if we cannot raise enough to treat these puppies, their lives are on the line. We are looking at upwards of $7,000 to treat them all. Please consider donating anything if you can. NO amount is too small. Please share this post to help bring more donations for us. And lastly, please pray / send good thoughts to these puppies who now officially begin their battle with this virus. 🙏

Meet adoptable Max! This handsome gentleman is an Anatollian Shepherd mix and full grown at 60 pounds. He is estimated to be about 6 years old.

Max is a loving boy looking for a family to call his own. He was initially abandoned at his previous owner's house when they moved. He was then taken to the shetler and sat for months. We are shocked he stayed there so long. He is not only incredibly beautiful, but extremely friendly and well behaved. He is the whole package!! He may be middle aged, but he’s still full of energy and enthusiasm! Max adores people and loves nothing more than being close to his humans. Whether it’s curling up on the couch for a cuddle session or rolling over for a belly rub, he’s always ready for some quality time with his favorite people.

Max is a lovebug and goofball! He thrives on attention and affection, and he’ll reward you with endless tail wags and kisses. Max is great with other dogs and enjoys playtime. His playfulness make him an ideal companion for dogs that enjoy an active lifestyle. Max is a social guy who loves to be wherever his people are.

Max is perfect for an active family or individual. Whether you’re going on walks, playing fetch, or just enjoying a sunny day outside, Max will be right there beside you. Though he's energetic, he’s also a loving, calm presence once playtime winds down, enjoying cuddles on the couch. Max is smart dog and eager learn! He’s currently working on perfecting his manners and is making great progress with crate training.

Max would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of attention, exercise, and socialization. He would do well with another friendly dog in the home. He did great with the children in his temporary foster’s home, although he is still learning some manners (not jumping). Max is a rock solid dog who has so much love to give. He deserves nothing but the best in life.

Please consider adding Max to your family! Max is up to date on vaccinations and prevention, neutered, and microchipped. Max completed his heartworm treatment and is ready to be adopted!

If interested in meeting Max, apply on our website:

Yesterday we officially busted out our parvo puppies from the shelter. So far, they’re energetic, hungry, and in good spirits. We are praying the rest of the siblings do not break with parvo. But, we are ready and here to fight if they do.

I do hate that I have to share a not so great update. The puppy who tested positive and was taken to the vet, Canyon, did not survive. He declined very quickly and passed on his own despite veterinary intervention. We are devastated, and also scared. This strand of parvovirus that we have seen running through shelters is very deadly. We can only hope that the remaining 7 puppies remain healthy and parvo-free. We are beyond thankful that the puppies are in great shape. Momma Skye did an amazing job caring for them. She will be joining us very soon when her foster is ready.

I just want to say another huge thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this family and the rescue. We are not out of the woods yet, and saving them was risky, but we knew we could because of the army of people who will stand beside us no matter what challenges we face.

Thank you for being here. 🤍

We are blown away with the donations and support today for ! Thank you so much to everyone who has shared our rescue and/or contributed to today’s fundraising.

If you haven’t donated yet, here are some reasons why your donations matter so much to us! Just this week, our medical lineup consists of a hefty amount! Without your donations, these dogs wouldn’t be guaranteed the medical care they get to receive in our rescue, not to mention we wouldn’t even be saving their lives without the ability to care for them financially. YOU make this possible!

As a rescue who relies 100% on donations, it’s incredible to watch what can happen when a group of people come together to support a cause. YOU are saving these lives through your selfless contributions to them, and we are forever grateful!

Today is Giving Tuesday, the biggest donation day of the year for charities. You will see many organizations asking for donations today, and The Bridge Between would be honored to receive your charitable contributions to our 501(c)3.

We are finishing up our third year of rescue, and have no plans to slow down. We strive to take dogs who won’t make it out of the shelter without us. Heartworm positive dogs, hospice cases, mange cases, feral dogs, parvo cases, and more. We promise to never leave family members behind. If we take one, we take them all. We work hard to make fostering an enjoyable experience for those who want to get involved. We also let fosters play a large part in the adoption process, because as a foster, that matters. We rely on our incredible group of volunteers, donators, and supporters to operate this mission, and are 100% run by volunteers and donations.

We would be honored to receive any donations towards our mission today. Just this week alone, we have multiple spays and neuters, a heartworm treatment, a dermatologist appointment for one dog, a cardiologist appointment for another dog, basic care appointments for many, and we are also bringing in a parvo litter. Your donations help us continue our operations at a steady pace, allowing us to get dogs healthy and adopted so that we can save more.

Check out these pictures to learn more about what your donations can do for our rescue! As always, thank you for your unwavering support! You can donate in the following ways:

I know I was going to be done with social media for the night, but I had to share this. To whoever donated the remaining amount of our facility’s phase one fundraiser tonight, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

I’ve been so devastated with the timing of our medical needs and Giving Tuesday, knowing that the medical emergencies will push back our building’s completion even further. I had still planned to try to fundraise tomorrow on Giving Tuesday so that we could complete phase one, but an incredibly generous person did that for us tonight completely unexpected.

For the first time in a while, I feel like we are one step ahead. Phase one is officially fundraised, which means we’re one step closer to starting phase two, and even closer to saving more lives.

This building has been my biggest goal for so long. There are lives we could’ve saved this year with it, but I know it will happen in time, and many more lives will be saved because of it. We will post phase two soon, but for now, I just had to put out a thank you to the incredible person who did this for us tonight. You have no idea how grateful I am. ❤️

03/12/2024

I don't really know how to share my feelings tonight, but my emotions are so very high for so many reasons.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our newest mom and pups. We are going to the shelter tomorrow now instead of Wednesday to bust them out so that they can start their 10 day quarantine. 10 days doesn't seem long, but it will be stressful as we wait for them to clear that tenth day, hopefully parvo free. We're also praying hard for the one puppy who tested positive who is staying separated from the siblings. He will join us when his quarantine period is over.

While bringing in this litter of puppies absolutely terrifies me, I can't go back on my promise to them. If they stay at that shelter, they could die. So even though bringing them in jeopardizes everything we have happening this week and the state of my rescue, how can I say no?

But another reason my emotions are high tonight is because of things no one sees that goes on behind the scenes, things that have nothing to do with this litter of puppies.

I currently have two fosters in my house that shouldn't be with me, and tomorrow, a dog that was returned is coming to my house too. And while navigating the details of taking this dog back, another adopter is now asking to return their puppy due to separation anxiety.

And today, while in the middle of dealing with this parvo situation, I get a text from ANOTHER adopter that absolutely wreaks havoc on my heart. A dog we adopted out two years ago is now no longer welcome in its home, to the point where one of the owners is threatening to call animal control.

Lives are always on the line that depend on me. The dogs in the shelter. The dogs who are already in my rescue who rely on me to take care of them. The dogs who need to come back to the rescue.

I can't save everybody. I can't always be there to pick up the pieces. And lately, it's like no one cares when I do.

To get yet another message about a family that promised a dog a forever home now threatening to call animal control during this already VERY stressful day is really, really hard. I rarely share these things with you all, because I try to keep things positive here, but I just don't know how much more I can take. I don't know how to fix this. The weight that these lives put on me before, during, and after they've gone through my rescue is almost too much to carry. And lately I feel like no one has the slightest clue how hard it really is. Maybe because I don't constantly share that with you all, but my god is it hard.

So again, my emotions are just really high tonight. I don't know why I shared all of this. Maybe just to remind you that a human being is behind this rescue and that being kind goes a lot farther than you think.

Some days I ask myself why I save lives when I feel like it slowly kills myself in the process. Today I am just feeling very defeated.

With tomorrow being the biggest fundraising day of the year while also simultaneously dealing with a parvo litter and multiple dogs being failed that shouldn't have been, I just don't know what to do and feel very lost.

I'm hanging up my hat tonight and hoping that tomorrow brings a new day and that these emotions don't come with it.

Good night.

PLEASE SHARE!!

I don’t even know how to share this update. Just this morning we shared how excited we were to break out a family of 9 from the shelter and split everyone into foster homes. A few hours after posting that, I got word that one of the puppies tested positive for parvo.

I’m heartbroken. I’m devastated. I’m angry.

We can’t put them into foster homes now. We cannot risk contaminating people’s homes. They are going to have to quarantine at our foster coordinator’s house for 10 days. This is so unexpected and it’s going to be a really tough 10 days for everyone.

The reason I’m more angry than anything, is because this was preventable. They were IN a foster home. That person quit and took them back to the shelter. They should’ve never gone back there. We knew the risks of them being there, which is why we vowed to get them out. We were too late.

Now we can only hope and pray that not everyone breaks with symptoms, and that those who do will survive this illness. It’s going to be a long quarantine period as we navigate this difficult time. We are also devastated in the timing of this as we had big plans for Giving Tuesday fundraisers tomorrow, and although we will still go through with those fundraisers, this has to take precedence. These puppies could die if left at the shelter.

We’ve updated their wishlist with items we will now need for them. If you can, anything purchased is so incredible helpful.

We are praying they don’t all break with Parvo, but if they do, we will have thousands of dollars in treatment. If you would prefer to donate directly to our medical fund, you can do so in the following ways:

Pictured here is momma Skye and her earthly babies. About 7 weeks ago, Skye had her babies on a cold concrete shelter floor. They went to a foster home but were brought back to the shelter just a few weeks later. The shelter is no place for puppies of any age.

When we put out a plea for this family, you guys showed up. We HATE leaving family behind, so our foster coordinator worked tirelessly to get the whole family covered. All 8 babies AND momma Skye are going to foster homes! We are heading out on Wednesday to pick everyone up and get them with their foster families.

Today also happens to be CYBER MONDAY, and what better way to welcome this family of 9 into our rescue than by purchasing items from an Amazon wishlist we created for them! We have items as small as $5 on this wishlist, and any item purchased is so helpful to them and to the rescue! Thank you for letting us save this family!

02/12/2024

Everything happens for a reason.

That’s what I remind myself when going through a tough time like our rescue did the last month. It was like something was in the air… no adoptions were going through!

Some people ghosted us.
Some people let us start processing their application and then changed their mind halfway through.
Some people didn’t have their pets up to date on basic veterinary care which means we sadly couldn’t approve them.
Some people made it all the way through meet and greets just to say “never mind”.
Some people were in the middle of an adoption trial and gave up for the slightest reasons.

I was heartbroken. Our foster families were heartbroken. But I’ve always tried to reassure myself and our team that everything happens for a reason. I believe it’s true, because…

If Lima’s first adoption didn’t fall through, she wouldn’t have scored an amazing home with her twin flame doggy sister.
If Amos’ first applicants wouldn’t have ghosted us, he wouldn’t have been adopted by the sweetest family who is already spoiling him.
If Chucky’s applicant wouldn’t have given up on their trial, Chucky wouldn’t have found the most amazing family who appreciates what a gem he is (and takes him on the boat and paddle boarding!!)
If Brisket’s applicants wouldn’t have changed their mind, he wouldn’t have been adopted by the sweetest family where he now gets to grow alongside his human brother.
If Tw***ie’s adopted didn’t decide the first dog she met from our rescue wasn’t a good fit, she wouldn’t have ended up adopting Tw***ie!

These are just a few of the happy adoption stories we’ve had recently. The happy endings that make you say, “wow, this was meant to be all along”. So we have to keep reminding ourselves although there are times when people let you down, it’s for a reason. When the wait seems never ending, just hold on. Something great is coming and everything is going to work out and be better than you could’ve ever imagined!

Happy tails to these sweet souls! Thank you to the foster families who were their bridge between, and the adoptive families for choosing to love and spoil them forever 🤍
