Resignation of Judy Miller as Vice-Chair

The Board of Directors has received with deep regret the resignation of Judy Miller from the role of Vice-Chair of the Board. We wish to take this opportunity to recognize the incredible contribution that Judy has made in so many capacities over the many years that she served on the BOD.

Judy has been a part of CARO since the beginning. She has supported and mentored many new board members, helped to manage changes, led various initiatives including the production and distribution of the station sign packages for the MGH2022, participated in the development of the manuals, anchored many an AGM and helped to develop the vision for CARO's future.

Judy was also the third person to become a CARO judge and is currently the longest standing Judge in the association. She went on to develop and run the judges certification program as it now stands. She dedicated herself to mentoring judges from across the country. For many years she was also the only course approver for trials. Outside of the BOD she is also a Rally and Scent instructor who is committed to ongoing learning for both herself and her students.

The BOD is very grateful for Judy's longstanding commitment to excellence in CARO and wishes her the very best!

From Cassia Devison!
This is Forest’s ribbon he got for achieving his novice title in the last virtual trial. We deal with some reactivity to other dogs. I never thought we would go beyond novice because being off leash with other dogs around in a trialling venue wouldn’t be feasible. These virtual trials have allowed us to continue to trial in a safe space with decreased stress for him and myself. We have achieved things I never thought possible. Thank you CARO for continuing these virtual trials.
We are in Pickering, ON.

THANKING Barb Burgess IN ADVANCE for all the work she will be doing the next few days

Questions/answers that came up in tonight's zoom meeting about the virtual trial:
There is 3 hours difference between PDT and Eastern time....so 6am PDT is 9am Eastern

The last virtual trial filled in the first few hours, so enter early.

Re: Moveups--enter the level you are presently competing in. WHEN you move up, when you submit your video, you indicate that it is a move up--you do NOT need to let the trial secretary know.

You MUST have 2 handlers for Team--ie you cannot handle both your dogs, however fun that might be.

You MUST upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo....we cannot accept video itself, only the links.

Senior dogs--make sure your mark 'veteran' on the entry form....you only need a vet letter for accommodations IF it may appear that the dog is not sound.

Working--you can do 3 exercises per round and there are 4 rounds...you can even pick the same exercises. You can move up in just one exercise.

Person filming can move slightly side to side but cannot follow you around. Be careful with the cameras that follow you around because they can suddenly zoom in and the judge needs to be able to see the whole ring at the same time.

You MUST mark corners and every 10 feet.

The directed retrieve items: number them 1,2,3 etc and the judge will tell you what number to choose (not sure I got this right someone may want to elaborate)

You pay through paypal after you get your confirmation.

General reminders from those who have done virtual trials:
Be mindful of the amount you ask your dog to do.
Be mindful of the amount of time set up can take.
Be aware of re-recording--your dog may become quite flat with the repetition......leave the course set up if you can and come back the next day.
Don't wait until the last few days to start--it takes time!!!!
Doble check your course maps and make sure you have the course set correctly
Always watch your video to make sure you can see everything and that you did the signs correctly
Use spray paint or painter's tape or chalk to mark where the outside of your ring is so that you don't have to measure each time--you still need to have markings/cones but you don't have to measure.

And above all, HAVE FUN!!!
