We are all broken hearted making this post . R***r was the sweetest little fellow ever . And we all hoped we would be able to help him to get his happy tail ending . We want to say thank you to everyone that stepped up to help our R***r . Please know your help was so deeply appreciate. R***r was so young to have had such a hard life and to have been so neglected . But at the end he was surrounded with much love and care . This could have never happened without the kindness shown from you all . R***r lost his battle , but at the end of his life . He was loved by many amazing people . Everyone that met instantly feel In love with his sweet jolly sprit . And he has stolen are hearts . And with his passing has taken a piece of our hearts with him .. He will suffer no more and is now pain free . Run free sweet R***r over the Rainbow Bridge . This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to make...

Our Bassett Boy, R***R, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly yesterday morning.

He’s been slowly recovering from his cancerous mass surgery, with only a couple setbacks from scratching and ripping his staples open. He’s been charming, happy and just the perfect little guy! He had an Approved Adopter that had visited him numerous times and we were just so excited to watch his new life unfold.

Late afternoon, day before yesterday, he began acting like he was possibly getting a urinary tract infection, kind of straining to potty. I knew we had an appt the next day, so I really didn’t worry at all. He’s been on antibiotics since his surgeries so I figured it couldn’t be too bad.

Yesterday I woke up to him pretty much unconscious and in full distress.

Got him immediately to the vet and he’s in complete system failure from numerous issues: bladder full of bladder stones, lab results showing multiple organs failing, and an X-ray showed that he had what is called Caval Syndrome, from heartworm disease, which causes complete cardiovascular failure. Everything just happened so fast, before I could make any decisions about treatment or whether to euthanize to stop his suffering, he had passed.

We just can’t believe this has happened...

He was 4 years old and in horrible condition when we got him: heartworm positive, no front teeth likely from chewing on a chain, previously broken and badly healed ribs, a huge cancerous mass, and had ridden out Hurricane Laura OUTSIDE.

Hopefully these last few weeks here showed him how much he was loved... he’s had excellent medical care, his own room (happily shared with a 4 # chihuahua) a warm, soft bed, tasty food and treats and a whole lot of support and affection.

I just wish we had found him sooner...

Our hearts are totally broken. He made a HUGE imprint in our Lives and on our Hearts and will be missed WAY more than we can say.

R***r’s Auction has officially closed . A huge thank you to everyone who donated items and much needed vetting funds to help with R***r’s cancer treatment . And also a heartfelt thank you to Rescue Revolution for stepping up to help rescue R***r and get him the treatment needed . We will list winning bidders and the items tomorrow. And get all payment information and shipping addresses/ emails info for items to be mailed out this week . Once again thank you to all who cared and helped R***r .

🧡 R***R UPDATE: 🧡

His mass results are back from the lab and it IS a cancer... malignant trichoepithelioma, of the hair follicles, actually... and they think they removed enough of the margins around it to prevent it from coming back.

So that’s kinda good and bad, but we’re taking it as more GOOD!

He has another spot on his side that we’ll check at staple removal (if he leaves them alone for 10 days) and will hopefully start his heartworm treatment then.

So things ARE looking UP!

Thank you for all your support through this, financially and emotionally. When we agreed to take in 3 dogs from the hurricane, we NEVER expected something like THIS.

SO GLAD we could make it work for this sweet guy!
