Mittens Kittens Update: Mochi’s Medical Journey

Sweet little Mochi has been diagnosed with a condition called pectus excavatum. This is a congenital deformity where the breastbone (sternum) is sunken into the chest, which can affect the development and function of her heart and lungs depending on the severity.

Right now, we’re monitoring her closely with the help of our veterinary team. The good news is that our vet is confident Mochi will not need surgery. She’s breathing well, growing steadily, and showing no signs of distress. In fact, kittens with mild cases like hers can live completely normal lives and just as long as any other cat.

Despite her diagnosis, Mochi is full of love, curiosity, and kitten energy. She is still looking for a forever home that understands her needs and is ready to give her the care and love she deserves. Mochi should be kept as an indoor only cat to help protect her health and safety.

We are doing everything we can to give Mochi the best chance at a happy, healthy future but we need your help.

Some of you may remember Jack from previous posts. He has been in foster care for the last few months. Below, please read what his foster parents say about him.
"he is a very happy, confident puppy. He is patient and if unable to understand a command, he sits and waits for clarification.
His personality is like a border collie but without the extreme sensitivity.
He's crate-trained, and we use that when we have to leave him at home. We feed him in his crate and he sits very well until he is told it's OK to start eating.
In public, he gets very excited but calms down quickly with a little reminding and redirection.
He loves people and dogs. I have both large and small dogs of various types, but I don't have cats at the moment. There is a stray cat that comes to our door sometimes and Jack shows calm interest.
I've been leash-training him with a Gentle Leader, which he has accepted very well.
I haven't seen any sign of fearfulness or aggression.
I have a doggy door that is electronic and opens when a dog wearing an ultrasonic collar key approaches. He's been fairly good about using it to go potty outside. His previous owner taught him to use a piddle pad and that's where he chooses to go if the door is turned off or he can't access it.
When he barks he sounds like an excited Chihuahua. The other day he made a noise that sounded like a Chihuahua trying to bay like a hound dog. It was adorable and ridiculous."

Meet Molly, A Sweet Young Mama Ready for Her Forever Home

Molly has done an incredible job raising her four kittens and was recently spayed. Now that her mama duties are behind her, she’s ready to start a new chapter as a beloved family cat.

She’s a little shy at first, which is totally understandable for a young cat who’s been so protective of her babies, but she warms up quickly once she feels safe. Molly is gentle, quiet, and has the softest eyes that tell you she just wants to be loved.

She’s estimated to be under a year old. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion, Molly might just be the perfect match.

Last Thursday night, June 19th, twelve kittens and their three Mama cats were dumped in Angwin. We estimate the three litters to be 5, 7 and 9 weeks old.

Three black, One Tuxedo, Two orange, one Torti, One orange tabby and four Siamese kittens.

The Angels that came to the kittens rescue are as follows:

Karen, Kelly, Heath and Wendy. They are the main initiators who brought the kittens into safety.

The kittens are now at two foster homes and in the PVAR program to be spayed and neutered.

Alas, the Mama cats have not been found. They must all be very frightened and disoriented.

The kittens themselves were very traumatized form this event. We are now at day three and with baths and care, they are starting to warm up and play.

They all appear to be healthy except one kitten who has a broken leg and will need medical attention.

The three Mama cats are still missing. They are all three Torties.

Please watch for these three Mama cats and let us know ASAP if you see them. We want to rescue them!

June 17 2025
Spay/Neuter & Vaccine Clinic Success

What a day. We had a total of 21 animals come through: 2 dogs and 19 cats, including 5 foster kittens who have all found loving homes. Of the 19 cats, 17 were female and 8 were feral, Three of the foster kittens came from our friends at Ripple Effect.

Many thanks to our DVM, Dr. Sally kimsey, the amazing staff at Napa Humane, and all the volunteers who helped make this clinic possible. Your time, skill, and compassion made a real impact for both the animals and their humans.

If you'd like to support future clinics like this through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, please reach out. Together, we can keep making a difference.

Meet this sweet little fighter named mochi. This kitten was rescued with a condition called pectus excavatum, which means her chest is sunken in and can affect her breathing and heart. Despite everything, she’s full of curiosity and charm. She visited the vet for an evaluation and is now getting the care she needs to feel better and grow strong.

A very special thanks to her amazing foster parents for giving her a safe and loving place to heal, and to Dr. Flowers and the team at Silverado Vet for their expert care and compassion. We’ll keep everyone updated on her progress.

If you’d like to help with her medical care or support future rescues like her, donations are always appreciated. Every bit makes a difference.
