Box Divvy is Community owned and run. This is a fruit

veg and grocery cooperative. We purchase as a group up to 40% cheaper than supermarkets. It’s a Smart coop and you get more of what you want than a normal coop. Box Divvy is a food box sharing system connecting growers & food producers directly with the Food. It is community owned and run designed to cut your food bill. You join online - there is no registration fee. https://www.boxdivvy.com/ You use an App on your phone or computer or a pad to order. Working with Western Sydney Diabetes Alliance - our aim is to provide accessible, inexpensive good quality fresh food.

4 DAY ORDER CYCLE –FOR Friday pick up

Sunday 9pm – Order creation
It’s an OPT OUT SYSTEM so if you don’t want an order for the coming week, you must suspend prior to Sunday 9pm. Your “WISH LIST VOTE” and any changes you wish to make to your household size must also be done by Sunday 9pm. Monday - Starting Order Published
Login take up to 3 things out and JOIN SPLITS. Wednesday 9pm - CUTOFF
Orders closed. Cards charged. There are 2 automatic processing’s, if those both decline - a $5 recharge fee is applied as it pays for someone to manually reprocess. You must pay BEFORE pick-up. Friday - PICK UP. You must pick up day of delivery at the pick-up time or arrange with Hubster. PAYMENTS
You must pay for your order once committed to an order cycle. Once in an Order Cycle we cannot withdraw an order. It is your responsibility to suspend the correct weeks. ORDERING SYSTEM
Dead simple. You share boxes online using the App. SUSPENDING ORDERS
When you tick the date, wait, it will turn red to confirm suspension. You’re expected to order weekly or fortnightly. STARTING ORDER
There’s a Starting Order based on your weekly ‘wish list’ VOTE and you can take out up to 3 things. Every week BEFORE Order Creation do a Wish List Vote to help Hubster (person who organisers Hub) to set up Starting Order. SHARE BOXES known as SPLITS
If you wish for more, you join Splits and share boxes. You can suggest a box to share or to your Hubster. Such as saying to your group: “Who’d like to share a box of apples?”

At order cut-off you pay automatically online (Visa or Mastercard & Secure Eway Payment gateway) then boxes from growers & food wholesalers come to the Hubster’s house for packing. You pick up from their place or they may offer home delivery. FRUIT, VEG, BREAD, EGGS – Order, pay, receive this week
GROCERIES – Order, pay, receive next week due to fresh roasting of coffee and made to order. BREAD baker direct – Minimum HUB order total is $30
GROCERIES wholesaler direct – Minimum HUB order is $75. MEAT AND SEAFOOD (NEW) – Order every 4 weeks. READ THE AMOUNTS YOU ARE PURCHASING
Please check carefully if the items are single, handfuls, 500gm, 1 kg etc. Don't assume it's by one item. EXAMPLE: Cherries sold by the box, make sure you’re not putting in 5 thinking it's handfuls when it's boxes. Read the descriptions please. EXTRAS
There are ALWAYS extras as the box belongs to members so your Hubster will divvy extras when available. There is also usually a SWAP box - if you forget to customise your Starting Order, you can throw in some apples and take out some carrots that someone else did not want. You will get great value. COMMUNITY BOX
Many Hubster’s ask members if this SWAP BOX can become a COMMUNITY KINDNESS BOX given to a family in need. This is part of the Social Enterprise experience by being part of the Hub. NOT WANT AN ORDER? There are no contracts, you can suspend orders when you don’t want them. WANT EXACTLY 1 tomato 2 oranges? Then Box Divvy is not for you. This is a coop and things are in handfuls NOT exact items. You need to be flexible but you'll always get good value. We are a group of community minded people wanting to change the food system. Reduce packaging and pay our farmers fairly. By reducing our carbon footprint by 90% this means we buy in bulk as a group and then share it. We need to be a bit flexible. You will know roughly what you will get but you can’t get exact. We have a Packing Guide but the numbers will change as produce is smaller or larger. Mostly you will get extras overall. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT I SPEND? EASY. You will pay the STARTING ORDER PLUS if you join in SPLITS or ADD Groceries. At the bottom of MY ORDER you will see the MAX you will pay if all your SPLITS get over the line, any groceries you’ve ordered and the Starting Order. You can reduce the SPLITS or Groceries you joined BEFORE CUTOFF. PACKAGING
Much of the produce comes loose so please provide your Hubster with a NAME LABELLED BAG: ALSO - calico/wash nets to put handfuls in (do not expect your Hubster to provide paper bags please): Bring in your old icecream containers, for example, for the Hub to put soft stuff in. If you get an item in plastic, recycle it in your soft plastic bin. We don't interrupt the packing from the farmer. Farmers are trying to work out how to transport produce and it can’t always be plastic free - for the moment. The Sugar Cane bags are not strong, don't last and definitely not airtight. Cardboard and paper fall apart. New technology is being worked on. NOT FOR ME
If after you’ve tried it and Box Divvy is not working the way you want, then you can cancel membership. So? Join our group to make a difference. You have the power to do so. Cut your food bill significantly – Wow! The goal: to cut your food bill, without compromising on the quality, freshness and variety of food. With minimal effort, minimal packaging and food miles, and still paying farmers and suppliers a fair price for their produce.

Sounds delicious, anyone got pumpkin to spare? I think I might try it

A whole J*P pumpkin can stretch across many meals and this week I've got several tasty dinners lined up to use it all!

Seeded Pumpkin Soda Bread was a delicious way to use up a big wedge of pumpkin.

This bread is quick and affordable to make and can be customised by adding grated carrot, beetroot, sweet potato, zucchini or a combination of grated veggies.

🌟 New feature available from our next order🌟

Now this is exciting: from 14th March 2024, we will be able to set up any number of ‘Shopping Lists’ or standing orders that will be automatically added to your Splits when the order gets created!

How does it work?
* Set up any number of Shopping Lists – a Basic Fruit and Veg List, a Pantry List, an Entertainment List, a Spaghetti Bolognese List...you name it
* Set the frequency for each List: how often do you want these Lists added to your order? Weekly? Fortnightly? Or only as needed?
* Once set up, the items in your Lists will automatically be added to your Splits when the order gets created.

This new feature is ideal for those time-poor members who just don’t get around to ordering, or simply forget.

How good will this be?! What do you tend to order regularly?
Staples like potatoes and onions?
Eggs and bread?
Fruit for the school lunchbox?
A regular order of chicken, or other meat or seafood?
Coffee, tea, chai. or drinking chocolate?
Milk (or dairy alternative) for your coffee/tea?
That's the great thing - you can add whatever you like to your lists!

So great to see box divvy getting some good press

As the weekly grocery shop becomes increasingly more expensive for households, a dozen families are keeping a decades-old tradition alive in Sydney's inner west to get their fresh produce for the week.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗡𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁

I've been long-time user of the No Pong deodorant and I love love love it!

It's an all-natural deodorant that really works and keeps you smelling fresh even in this hot humid weather. It comes in a cute compact tin and a little bit goes a long way. It’s completely free of aluminium, parabens, BPA, and phthalates.

And now available at your local Box Divvy hub.

Loving the new veggie options :)

⭐ O K R A ⭐

We had Okra available to order this week for the first time ever and I jumped at the chance to try something new!

I found a simple Mediterranean style recipe online and it was so tasty. I can't wait for leftovers for lunch tomorrow! 🤤

One of the best things about being part of a Box Divvy Hub is the infectious courage to try new things.

Have you tried something new since joining Box Divvy?

*How to get the most out of Box Divvy*

Many of our members have been Box Divvy-ing for years, so they probably do all these things without too much thought!
But we also have some newer members, and it never hurts to be reminded of little things that can help.

Can you add any more tips?

(I updated this post to allow for changes in the ordering system since I first created it.)

The perfect gift for the gluten free friends and family this Christmas

The perfect gift for the gluten free friends and family this Christmas

This is your very last week to order the scrumptious Shepherds Bakery Fruit Mince Tarts.

If you've been holding off until the Christmas week to order, now is the time!

The Shepherds tarts are made using a deliciously ‘short’ biscuit base tart, filled with sweet, juicy house-made fruit mix – apple, sultanas and currants – with just a hint of citrus peel.

Gluten-free, no nasties and 100% simply delicious.

Love those bananas 🥰

Love those bananas 🥰

🥄𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴
These warm humid days have caused the bananas in the fruit bowl to fully ripen, almost overnight, so a loaf of banana bread was calling to be made!

I love sharing this snippet of info about our Box Divvy bananas....

There's good reason why we love the Box Divvy 🍌bananas so much, they taste better and they're better for our environment.

95% of Box Divvy bananas are sourced mainly from the Coffs region. Transport from Coffs (530kms from Sydney) uses about 80% fewer food miles compared with Queensland bananas, most of which are grown in Innesfail, south of Cairns.
Because of the more humid climate in North Qld, the crop requires a fair amount of ag chemicals – fungicides and pesticides mainly – to maintain their good looks. That is important, as the major supermarkets only buy Qld bananas – and cosmetics are considered more important than flavour and nutrition. By contrast, Coffs bananas are grown without chemicals. What’s more: because it’s a little cooler than Qld, it takes an extra 1-2 months to bring the fruit to maturity. That makes the Coffs bananas noticeably sweeter. That said, they may not always win a beauty contest, but they taste amazing!

Exciting new addition 😊

Exciting new addition 😊

At Box Divvy, we believe that ‘current trends’ are there to be bent, broken and reversed.

Which is why we are introducing a cleaning range that eliminates the need to single-use plastic bottles. Uh? How, exactly?

𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗞𝗔𝗣𝗦 produce a range of cleaners – both household and personal cleaning products – in the form of a tablet that is dissolved in warm water. You can use any existing spray bottle, or buy the aluminium bottle supplied by ECOKAPS: they’re designed to last for years.

The initial range includes a multi-purpose cleaner, a glass cleaner, a kitchen degreaser, a floor cleaner and a foaming handwash.

Laundry, dishwash and body wash products are in the pipeline.

ECOKAPS are effective cleaners (we’ve trialled them over the past month), up to 60% cheaper than traditional cleaners, non-toxic (e.g. no Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or Triclosan), biodegradable (no phosphate) and septic safe.

Why cleaning products? Until a few months ago, we saw Box Divvy as a pure food business, helping you eat healthy - and launching non-food products was the furthest from our mind.

However, when we came across these products, we knew instantly that they could help us make an impact on our overall footprint.

𝗣𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲: 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸
In our campaign to make Box Divvy easier to use, we are making an improvement to the pantry delivery: instead of having to wait a week, members will receive pantry items in the same week as ordered – just like fruit, veg, eggs and bread.

This improvement will come into effect for the order cycle starting 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟯 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆.

In that week, you can potentially receive 2 weeks’ worth of pantry items: the items you order this week (still delivered with a one-week lag) and the items you order next week (delivered without lag).

New in season

This week, there’s a lot of action in fruit – reflecting a change in the season:

• Peaches and nectarines may only have another week or 2 before they finish,
• Apples, new season Fuji apples are joining the action. They’re from interstate at this stage. TNT Produce has a smaller-than-usual Fuji pick this year, and are mainly supplying us with Gala.
• Brown pears, aka Beure Bosc are joining the Williams in the pear department - not the prettiest, but tasty as…
• New season pomegranates are good-sized, full of juice, flavour and colour.
• New season persimmon. Crisp and super-sweet, this fruit has become very popular over the past few years.
• Strawberries are back. We’re going for the smaller ones, reasonably priced at $3 a punnet. (The Extra Large fruit would cost you around $5 a punnet).
• Black Sapphire grapes, also known as finger grapes, are a large black and seedless grape with an unusual shape. Crunchy and super flavoursome.
• Requested by a number of Hubs: can we make both cured ginger and young/fresh ginger available, as they tend to be used for different purposes. At under $20, cured ginger is actually not expensive right now (but can easily fetch $40-50 when supplies run low).

Sugar plums: little flavour bombs!

New season sugar plums are available now: sweeter than fairy floss…

Can't wait to give these a try :)

Can't wait to give these a try :)

What on earth are…Longans?

Longans, lychees and rambutan are all members of the soapberry family. They look more different than they taste, but if you find lychees a little too sweet, you may like the sweet, slightly tart and musky flavour of Longans. Besides, they’re quite a bit cheaper!

23/01/2023

New season pears
New season Clapp’s Favourites pears are available now at $3.64 a Kg. Invented by Thaddeus Clapp in New England in the late 1800’s, they have a short season – usually 2-3 weeks - ahead of Williams pears next month. They have plenty of flavour and juice, but make sure that the stem-end has some give before you eat them.
