Howdy SBDR friends! It’s been a hot minute. I know. Lots of things and changes, BUT… most importantly, we still have senior dogs in foster care who could benefit greatly from donations. Imma post this blanket link, because it seems like a good deal, but feel free to share, post, and send any and all goodies to our ‘ol farts’ way!

Adopt Cooper! Cooper is now a 1 year old medium sized (35 lbs) boy. Our best guess is Australian Kelpe mix. He is housebroken, good with his foster cat and dog siblings, however, he hasnt had successful meets with other dogs, so perhaps Cooper needs to be the only dog. Kids over 10 years old. We are ok. Yard is flooded. We lost two huge trees and fences. New water feature over my fireplace inside that was a surprise.

I’m at work today but will need some help with trees and fences.

Critters are all good. Stressed but good.

Thank yall for reaching out and checking in on us! As of the Tuesday 7pm advisory, this is where we sit. We are hunkered down, shuttered up, and significantly sedated (mostly the furs). Welcome Cooper to Sunshine Big Dog Rescue. Approximately 7 month old male, 33 pounds, possibly Australian Kelpie mix, neutered and up to date on shots. Found wandering the Town and Country Preserve behind Alonso High School. He served his time in county lock up and is now ready to find his real forever home! He is Super playful, loves to snuggle, ridiculously smart, knows how to sit and learning how to shake. He is crate trained, potty trained and food driven. He has a touch of separation anxiety, likely due to being dumped by previous owners. Gets along with other dogs, he’s been exposed to cats but he is unsure of them. Welcome to Sunshine Big Dog Rescue! We are an experienced, not for profit, rescue. Our mission is to rescue dogs, ensure they are vetted, and find loving, forever homes. We require any potential adopters that currently, or recently, have pets to have a consistent record of vaccinations and heartworm prevention. We do contact the vets you use to verify your pet's medical history prior to you meeting our dogs.

We are all volunteers who also work full time jobs. We do the very best we can to make the adoption process as efficient as possible. Please understand, we want the very best home for each dog, and sometimes that takes time. We match the dog's personality with that of the family applying to ensure it is a love connection for everyone for the next 15+ years of that dog's life.

Once your application is submitted, we contact your vet, verify home checks, and the foster will review applications to determine which applicant (s)he feels is the best match, on paper. (S)he will follow with a phone interview, and then an in person meet for the entire family, including any current dogs. At that point, an adoption can proceed if it's a match. If it's not, your application stays on file and you can message us when you see another dog you are interested in being considered for.

Please do not submit multiple applications. It will slow your application process and you will potentially miss out on the dog you requested.
