Meet our new residents!
Three little donkeys that arrived as a tiny herd
As is our tradition with all of our intakes new home means new adventures and new names!
We will be working through the naming process soon and maybe we will play pin the name on the donkey again!
But for now.... here are the newest members of the Donkey's Cross family...
"Donkey one" is a handsome little man with a sleek black coat and some pudge for all your snuggling enjoyment :)
"Donkey two" is a little girl with some crazy hair and an apple bottom (and some cinnamon rolls on top) who can be a little standoffish at first but really enjoys sniffing and rubbing on her own terms.
"Donkey three"... is a beautiful and fit young lady who is as sparkly as her fluffy pink halter but she has had a bit of a tough time with an injured hoof. She got to spend some bandage free time on soft ground this morning... she has been a trooper with all the wraps, soaks and hoof trims over the last 2 weeks. She is finally starting to put the foot down on soft ground which is amazing!
"Donkey three" has captured the hearts of one of our supporters "Running for Rescue" and they have generously helped with her medical bills. In honor of their support she has been named "Duffy." Duffy is hard as nails and will be good as new very soon!
If you would like to sponsor them you can send donations directly to the rescue, venmo or visit our webpage to donate!

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at the Donkey's Cross... we received a call from a donkey owner who was having personal health issues making care of her animals more and more challenging. No-one expects that sort of thing to happen but that is just one of the reasons that rescues and animal sanctuary farms are essential to our community.
So... off we went to collect 3 little donkey's and bring them on a new adventure. All three were well loved but came to their owner with a host of medical issues and severely damaged and neglected feet. For the last few months her farrier has been working to correct years of neglect and we continue that progress here.
Each donkey has a story but as a group they have come to us to continue their rehabilitation and for a couple some "weight watchers" counseling and exercise.
They are a little irritated that they get to look at green grass but are watching their weight hanging out in the barn and their dry paddock. A little bandage free time for our injured girl and she is finally starting to put some weight on that hoof!

Lloyd would have gladly helped her go to the gold but he's a little short for the jumps 😉. But he's cheering from home - you can hear his bray from

We have had some wild weather up here in the last week but all animals and safe and happy
The last storm hit our area the hardest but minimal damage at the rescue
Now just waiting to get power back town wide - fortunately we have generators to run utilities:)
The animals just don't seem to care - they are the off grid gangsters of the world

When it's this hot and watermelons are on sale everyone has a picnic... except the goats... there was no shares there
Really??? I have to plow snow for these crazy goats??? It's my 1 year anniversary in rescue! I love it here :)

When you get your "piggie pen" resurfaced with the best smelling pine chips but you know there is a piece of pig chow or half a banana peal hidden under the pile...
You had pretzels? I like pretzels... I wil@haz pretzels.. come back here!!
This is little Betty... the Christmas donkey who greatly prefers the cooler weather.... but today she is sporting her super stylin' purple fly booties - it has been hard to fit her but we finally got a set that work!! She (like Chocolate) has very sensitive skin and very bad reactions to flies. Gotta get a second set for the rear legs and she is good until winter!
I know it isn't a donkey but... have you ever watched a piggie eat an ear of corn "typewriter style"?? Well now you can cross that one off the bucket list - you're welcome
Well this happened... We heard about a tiny donkey that needed some help so we drove almost to Boston... this little guy was purchased as a pet by a family in a Boston suburb where he was "singing with the church bells" every hour. The neighbors didn't think that was a cute as we do so he needed a bail out before he got to know the legal system So we went to get the little choir singing donkey and brought him to Bethlehem - his new name as a former Boston boy is "Beans" Beans has a long way to go to get comfortable with humans but he is enjoying being a donkey at The Donkey's Cross Beans needs to gain some weight and have his feet reconditioned If you would like to sponsor Beans you can donate on our website. Direct to the rescue or on Facebook Welcome to Cross Beans!
