This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....

When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.

Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Please check:
- On your porch, around your porch furniture, under your porch,
- In and under your garage and shed
- In your basement/cellar
- Observe if your dog is acting unusually interested in an area of your home or yard
- Check ring cameras
- If her head can fit through a small hole so can the rest of her- she may be trapped somewhere unable to escape
- Watch for small footprints in the snow or a newly dug area
- Listen for scratching or whining

It’s Christmas season, and while this is a special time, it’s also one of our busiest times. The surrender requests we are getting are incredible and unfortunately many of them are coming to us in such poor shape we have to make decisions right away. We don’t show these or share them because they are absolutely heartbreaking and we want to preserve the dignity of the animals. Why the holiday season is such an upkick of surrenders of seniors I don’t know, but with dogs like Kringle coming to us almost daily; we’d like to remind you of some helpful ways you can assist us during this season.

DO
- share our posts
- tell us we’re doing a good job
- tell people about our mission
- support and encourage senior and hospice dog adoption and foster
- talk to people about being present with their animal during their death instead of surrendering them
- remember we do not adopt out our dogs, please do not ask to take them from us
- donate if possible - every little helps

DONT
- comment with medical advice for animals in our care. We work closely with amazing veterinary professionals in our area and trust their guidance and judgment.
- tell us what we could be doing instead or better. Even if well intentioned, this doesn’t help us.
- tag us in every senior dog post on the internet. Many of these dogs are across the country or unable to be transported and while we appreciate and want to help, it’s best if YOU tell the organization to email us at [email protected] if they need help. Getting 50+ notifications per day for dogs everywhere clogs our effectiveness to help dogs locally and answer all the other emails for surrenders we have coming in.
- make assumptions on how long a dog has or how healthy they look based on a picture. This may seem super silly, but I don’t like ever jinxing anything or then feeling worse if the dog crashes suddenly.

We love and need your support to survive, but we also are only human, and doing our best every day for these animals. It’s absolutely exhausting work; even when it’s rewarding.

The last application we received was November 24th🥺That means that we have not received any interest in our dogs for two weeks. 💔
