We lost one of a kind Truman this past week and It was a TRU love story between Truman and I from the beginning. Itâs one of those things, as a dog lover and owner that this day will come but now it has come and I must move on with grand memories of my best friend. A real life Winnie the Pooh Boo character! I miss you terribly but am glad you are not in pain anymore and you will be with Ruth and her crew walking, running and hiking across the Rainbow Bridge.
The most loyal, independent, confident, aloof, fearless, feisty, inquisitive, quirky, funny, goofy, grumpy and very photogenic friend. I used to tell him and his parents, Mary and Norm, that he could be a dog model. He embodied the Walkabout lifestyle. Any kind of walk, hike, swim, dog park, outing he was all about it, sniffing, running after squirrels, balls, LOVED rolling in ferns and in the grass. I call it the golden retriever dance. He also had, as I called it, the John Travolta swag. One of the most unique walks I have ever witnessed. I can only explain it as major hip movement and sliding of doing a hop with his back legs. He also was obsessed with focusing on getting, very large, rocks out of the lake. It was hilarious watching him do it because he would literally put his entire head in and scoop it out and drop it on the beach. Quite a site to see! He was also my co-pilot of 9 and a half years and he took the role very seriously and he earned it from the get go! He was very regal in his spot, always paying attention to what was going on outside. Oh thereâs a squirrel, or a cat or a crow in the road and he would intently stare and pop his head out of the window in earnest, hoping somehow he could get a hold of whatever it was. The way he sat in the seat was also a site to see. He would pop up his paw on the arm chair and literally sit there very human like. Not having you as co-pilot, even the last few days, has been very, very sad! Itâs like not having your side kick or ride or die, next to you! Truman was also a huge pick pocket, of anything, knit hats, masks, bags. You name it, he was going to try and take it from you. Any low hanging fruit, as I would say, he would go for it! Especially a baby stroller with toys in it, game on!! We also did nose work together and we were the best partners. Itâs basically a sniffing game and or competition where you have to FIND, the scent and boy was he amazing! So many first and second place ribbons we earned! He and I would communicate and he was very in tune with me when I would talk to him. His almond eyes, literally, looked at me with such interest, love and affection. He was like my therapist. He would intently turn in my direction and just give me this look of, âyeah, I understand, I got you and love you very much auntie Shannon. His owners, Mary and Norm are clients but over the years have become great friends! Amazing owners, people and dog lovers, especially of their boy Truman! We would talk about sports, life, and dogs and of course our boy TRU, TRUMAN! It was a devastating day, when we were there to say our goodbyes. I will remain part of their lives because Truman brought us together, forever! I will miss our rituals of walking up the sidewalk, in the courtyard, you waiting for me either on the couch or right by the front door. Giving you a treat and putting your harness and collar on and off we went on our adventure for the day!
You will live in me forever and Mary and Norm! God, please bless this his majestic soul and thank you for putting him in my life, I feel very blessed and to have known you for the past 9 and a half years! GONE WAY TOO SOON, my best friend and confidant, always in my heart!
